- #1Zhou Cangselective
Keys: Zhou Cang
Appearance: Zhou Cang is a tall, strongly-built man rarely seen without a roguish grin. He’s got messy shoulder length brown hair partially tied back, a short goatee, and brown eyes. Zhou Cang’s signature accessory is his wide-brimmed, angled hat-- always with a jaunty tilt and a bright orange plume on top that flows within the wind. Zhou Cang dresses very casually and comfortably in shades of green, and often ties his long sleeves back so they don’t interfere with his running.
Personality: Strong and loyal, Zhou Cang prides himself on his speed-- he can run as fast as a horse and keep pace with the legendary Red Hare. He’s also a ridiculously strong and fast swimmer. He tends to be positive, mischievous, and upbeat, though he is snide and uneasy towards Zhao Yun due to a prior misunderstanding between them and the late Pei Yuanshao.
Awestruck by Guan Yu's strength and majesty, Zhou Cang develops a quick relationship with the general, whom he respectfully, but casually refers to as "boss". His close relationship with Guan Yu also spills over to his children, and Zhou Cang is an excellent babysitter for Guan Yu’s one-year-old son, Guan Ping. Zhou Cang is often carrying Guan Yu’s famed green dragon crescent blade for him when it’s not being actively wielded.
Zhou Cang’s weapon of choice is a Longtou Dazhadao-- a large weapon where the handle runs alongside the blade. His fighting style relies on his ridiculously improbable speed and his ability to run for very long distances without getting tired.
- #2Guan Yinpingselective
Keys: Guan Yinping
Appearance: Guan Yinping has long, beautiful black hair, as an homage to her father’s long beard. She’s got bright brown eyes, and a slender, feminine appearance, fond of wearing flowers and ribbons within her long hair. She typically dresses in shades of green and red, with gold accents and floral prints. Yinping prefers to wear short skirts, so she has range to fight and move.
Personality: Guan Yinping's innocent appearance belies her incredible strength, something that she does not fully realize. She strives to be as strong as her father, believing that she needs to be as muscular as he is. Yet despite this, she is one to fight for the goals of not only her father out of being a daughter's duty, but in order to honor her home kingdom. She can be somewhat naive and unaware, but she’s got a strong spirit and a good heart.
She’s very close to her siblings, tightly bonded with her older brothers. She’s also friendly with her brother Guan Suo’s wife-- she gets along well with the spirited and playful Bao Sanniang. She’s sparring and training partners with her stern and stoic cousin Zhang Xingcai, and she’s fiercely loyal to the serene and foolish (or perhaps just pretending to be?) Liu Shan, her cousin and also Shu’s emperor.
Guan Yinping’s weapon of choice is a dual-headed mace. It’s a huge and rather unwieldy weapon, but she carries it with a lot of ease. She seems unaware of her own strength, to a rather comical degree, and tends to knock over people or lift things way too high on accident. Like, she can smash through a castle wall barehanded, yet still thinks she’s not quite strong enough because she lacks a giant muscular frame.
- #3Jian Yongselective
Keys: Jian Yong
Appearance: Rarely seen without a relaxed smile (And often leaning on something) Jian Yong is an average height man with shoulder-length wavy hair, brown eyes, and somewhat neatly trimmed facial hair. Whether his hair is tied up or left down depends solely on if he can be assed to do it. He tends to dress comfortably, preferring strategist’s robes in shades of brown, green, and white.
Personality: Jian Yong is known for being an excellent debater and speaker. In his writing and speech he’s far more extreme in Laozi philosophy than most of Liu Bei's other subjects. He’s carefree in his ways and shows little regard for formalities. When he sits down beside Liu Bei, Jian Yong behaves boldly, ignores proper etiquette, and sits in a manner to make himself feel comfortable. When he attends banquets hosted by Zhuge Liang, he occupies an entire couch, reclines on a pillow, and speaks to others in a relaxed position. He does not condescend to anyone. Literally nobody has been able to make him change his ways, not even Liu Bei.
For all his relaxed demeanor and careless humor, Jian Yong is a highly intelligent and astute man with excellent skills in negotiation. Serving as Liu Bei’s very first strategist, he’s pretty much been there to get Liu Bei and his sworn brothers into gear from the very beginning, and smooth talks the many people around them into helping Liu Bei’s cause. He has a very witty personality and a chaotic sense of humor, often making jokes that are rather dirty or inappropriate when he knows he can get away with it. He’s persuasive, open-minded, and carefree. People tend to underestimate him greatly, and he likes it that way.
Jian Yong’s childhood buddies with Liu Bei. He got along really well with Pang Tong (Who’s equally as carefree and chaotic) back when he was alive. Jian Yong finds Zhuge Liang to be a bit of a stiff pain in the ass, but acknowledges his intelligence. He thinks Fa Zheng (who is the epitome of petty and vengeful) is a snake, but gives him props for being open about it.
Jian Yong’s weapon of choice is a wooden bench, wielded in horse bench kung fu. It usually earns the ridicule of his enemies, until they get hit over the head with it. He lounges around on said bench in-between fights.
- #4Xiahou Jiselective
Keys: Xiahou Ji, Xiahouji
Appearance: A short and gentle appearing young woman, Xiahou Ji is often said to resemble a rabbit in her demeanor and the emblems on her dresses. She has brown eyes and long brown hair, worn loose. She often wears a large green bow on her head and layered green and purple hanfu, adorned with rabbit and peony decorations.
Personality: Xiahou Ji is a sheltered girl who is shy and introverted. Her innocent appearance belies her ability to adapt. She appreciates the kindness of others and goes out of her way to repay them. Xiahouji's devotion to Zhang Fei helps bring out a gentler side from the man, who is easily flustered by her innocent and shy nature. According to Xingcai, her mother is prone to making odd and questionable decisions. Xiahouji shows a hidden bravery and willingness to step up to the challenge, especially to protect her family. Although she and Zhang Fei worry for their children when they are ready for battle, she understands that she must stand aside to let them have their day. She tends to stutter and hesitate in her sentences, and likes sewing dolls.
XIahou Ji has… conflicted feelings on the nature of her marriage. As an adult, she now understands the uncomfortable and grooming-esque circumstances of her young marriage and the predatory nature of it. Though her husband treats her well and Liu Bei’s forces care for her, she deeply misses her own family and quietly resolves to raise her own son (Zhang Bao) and daughter (Zhang Xingcai) to be better.
Xiahou Ji was very close to her uncle Xiahou Yuan, and her cousin Xiahou Ba while she was back in Wei. She misses them terribly but has grown to accept that she may not be able to see them again while she’s part of the enemy faction. She was crushed upon hearing of her uncle’s death at the hands of Shu forces. Xiahou Ji’s weapon of choice is a sword and shield-- a weapon she passes onto her daughter and teaches her how to wield.
- #5Ma Daiselective
Keys: Ma Dai
Appearance: Ma Dai is a tall, roguishly handsome man with short wavy brown hair, brown eyes, and a short and neat goatee. He has a vague resemblance to his older cousin Ma Chao, though is slightly shorter than his more ‘splendid’ cousin. Ma Dai wears armor in shades of green and silver, and is quite literally never seen without a hat of some sort-- his signature stylish hat is wide-brimmed, metal, and has a tuft of horse hair coming from the top.
Personality: Ma Dai gains respect and trust with his common sunny deposition. Occasionally he childishly pouts aloud when something displeases him, yet Ma Dai always brightens to look onward to the future. Honest with his thoughts, he wants to emphasize the positives in life to his comrades. He is the easy-going contrast to his serious cousin Ma Chao, who he affectionately refers to as his "young master". Despite his seemingly innocent cheerfulness, he takes his duties to heart and is not afraid of taking someone's life or losing his own if it means protecting Ma Chao or his country. Ma Dai can show his true nature with dead seriousness and maturity, dropping the usual lively tone in his voice for a rare and strikingly brief moment, before hiding it once more with a smile.
He is mainly seen trying to cheer up his brooding (yet spirited) cousin or the fierce yet speech-impaired Wei Yan, but he also shares a bit of a kinship with Pang De. Ma Dai considers him a talented general who he used to idolize for his ferocity and composure, though his respect was fractured when Pang De chose to side with Wei. Zhuge Liang also places his absolute faith in him. Ma Dai gets along well with people who mask their serious natures with smiles, and often tries to charm and joke his way into the good graces of others.
Ma Dai’s weapon of choice is a pair of twin axes. He’s really good at calligraphy and often has a brush with him. Ma Dai is exceptionally talented at taming wild horses.
- #6Jiang Weiselective
Keys: Jiang Wei
Appearance: A tall, handsome young man with long brown hair tied back in a messy ponytail, and hazel eyes. His bangs often fall in his eyes. He’s typically wearing the Shu colors of green, silver, and gold, wearing a mix of strategist’s robes alongside his armor.
Personality: Steadfast and a bit hot-blooded, Jiang Wei is a formal perfectionist who strives to always act his best. Lionizing Zhuge Liang as "Prime Minister" or "Chancellor" , he hopes to someday make his mentor proud. Though competent in war and strategies, he suffers from a slight inferiority complex when he experiences failure and was known for profusely apologizing to Zhuge Liang when it occurred. However, these setbacks do not completely dwarf his spirit and he is always eager to learn from his mistakes (Though whether he actually does? That tends to vary.) He is depicted as a bud of fresh talent; depending on the scenario, he is either too green to overstep his idol's shadow or is more than capable of leading Shu after Zhuge Liang's death. The Sima family and Liu Shan, however, see the hypocrisy of Jiang Wei's warmongering for virtue.
A faithful student to his mentor, he sometimes forgets his composure and zealously shouts his defense for Zhuge Liang if someone berates him. Zhuge Liang appreciated his enthusiasm, but did chide him to restrain himself. Aside from the Prime Minister, Jiang Wei is respectful towards his other allies in Shu, addressing them with the terms "master" or "lady". Despite his politeness, his hot-blooded nature does occasionally cause him to speak out of turn, or defend his ideals fiercely. Jiang Wei fiercely believes in the values of benevolence and virtue that Liu Bei was known for, but like the deceased founder of Shu, fails to see his own hypocrisy. Jiang Wei’s weapon of choice is a double-bladed trident.
- #7Wei Yanselective
Keys: Wei Yan
Appearance: Wei Yan is a tall, well-built, fierce-looking man with long, shaggy and messy brown hair.He almost always wears a golden and horned mask that covers the upper half of his face, though there’s obviously holes for his eyes. Rarely seen without a scowl and believing himself to be misshapen and grotesque beneath the mask, he always keeps it on and maintains it’s a firm secret. He typically wears armor in shades of green and gold.
Personality: The most notable characteristic in Wei Yan is his speech impairment. He is only able to grunt and growl the most simple of words into phrases. Despite this, he’s actually rather intelligent when tasked with manners of battle. Though seemingly a barbaric, wild beast, he has a kind heart and simply desires to prove his worth. However, he may neglect to consider the consequences of his sometimes rash behavior. Wei Yan is fiercely defensive about his mask, and refuses to remove it. Wei Yan sometimes gets a bit insecure and sad at being referred to as a monster, as he’s actually kind-hearted despite his feral exterior. Wei Yan is known for treating his soldiers well and for his bravery with valour that surpassed others. However, he is also boastful of his talents, hence his peers tended to shun him.
Since his lord sincerely believes in him, he stays loyal to Liu Bei. Though on the flip-side, he is shown to be in an antagonistic relationship with Zhuge Liang at times, and is not very fond of the strategist's continuous doubts over his loyalty. Regardless of his relationship with Zhuge Liang, Wei Yan is still generally willing to take orders from the strategist, as he believes Zhuge Liang is the one who can make their late lord's wishes come true. Zhuge Liang doesn’t particularly trust Wei Yan, but does acknowledge that his advice and valor do serve a purpose. Wei Yan's relationship with Shu's other strategists is often more harmonious than that with Zhuge Liang as they also believe in the general's sincere loyalty. Ma Dai and Wei Yan are friends, with Ma Dai deeply trusting him. Wei Yan’s weapon of choice is a double-bladed voulge.
- #8Zhang Feiselective
Keys: Zhang Fei
Appearance: Zhang Fei is a tall, burly man with scruffy hair and an equally scruffy beard. His expression is often fierce, matching his temper, and his voice booms loudly when he speaks. He is often seen in shades of gold and green on the battlefield, with his strong arms exposed and a fierce glare on his face.
Personality: Zhang Fei is a loud and brash man who thrives in a brawl. Stubborn and prideful, he never wants to turn his back on the enemy and is easily motivated into anger. He displays a wider range of emotions than his brothers as he's known to be cheerful one moment and deeply saddened the next. Though his judgment may be questionable, his heart is in the right place and he usually knows when to be practical. He likes being in the spotlight if his brothers allow it. His loyalty to Liu Bei sometimes blinds him from trusting others as he is quick to criticize newcomers that his brother welcomes.
Though a menace on the battlefield, Zhang Fei is deeply tied to his family. He is fiercely loyal to his oath brothers and wouldn't hesitate to lay down his life for them. Out of the trio, he is the one who will most likely remark and joke about his brothers' serious behavior. He usually addresses them as "Brother". He's a caring worrywart over his infant daughter Zhang Xingcai’s safety, and this attitude carries over to his wife. His irresponsible behavior also results in his child son Zhang Bao occasionally having to clean up or reporting to his sworn brothers. He sometimes goes into a boiling rage at the mere mention of his daughter being in danger.
Zhang Fei is a bit of an irresponsible alcoholic that loves wine, prone to drunken rages and being unable to handle his short temper. He actually treats his wife, Lady Xiahou Ji, fairly well-- but he did also kidnap her from her family, and she’s nearly twenty years younger than he is. Liu Bei and Guan Yu have been oddly permissive of this, despite their general viewpoints of honor and virtue-- they tend to enable Zhang Fei’s behaviors due to their close bond. Zhang Fei’s weapon of choice is a cobra pike-- a double ended serpent shaped blade. He likes peaches, because they remind him of the brotherhood vow he made.
- #9Guan Yuselective
Keys: Guan Yu
Appearance: Guan Yu is a tall, physically powerful, and imposing man with a beautiful long beard that he’ll often stroke in contemplation. He has dark, piercing eyes and a stern red face, though he smiles easily around his loved ones. He often keeps his long hair tied up (it tends to spike oddly when he lets it down) and covered, and wears green robes and golden armor in battle.
Personality: Guan Yu is a stalwart general who firmly believes in justice and virtue. Normally calm and benign, he stands with an air of noble dignity and has respectful manners. A man who also excels in literary studies, he gains many admirers from each kingdom with his might and has earned the nickname "God of War”.
His indomitable loyalty to his brothers is his first and foremost duty in life. He will not abandon either one of them and treasures each one with unfaltering confidence. He acts as the calm advisor to Zhang Fei’s drunken antics and as the faithful middle brother to Liu Bei. Guan Yu calls them “brother”. Before they swore brotherhood, Guan Yu had already thought highly of Liu Bei and called him "Lord Liu Bei". Guan Yu is also on friendly terms with Jian Yong, Liu Bei’s childhood friend and strategist. He acts as a good father figure for his toddler son Guan Ping, and would sacrifice himself for his safety. Guan Yu deeply trusts his retainer Zhou Cang, who runs as fast as his horse and often carries Guan Yu’s weapon for him. He gained new friends during his time in Wei, some of whom include Cao Cao, Zhang Liao, and Xu Huang. The attention he gets as one of the land's greatest warriors doesn't suit Xiahou Dun very well, though Guan Yu bears no ill will towards the former and has always considered the one eyed general to be one of his good friends.
Guan Yu’s flaw is that his honor can easily backfire into making him rather stubborn towards specific situations at hand. Guan Yu is also known for being somewhat arrogant-- while this arrogance is justified by his martial prowess, he can get in over his head and underestimate his enemies. Guan Yu’s weapon of choice is a guandao, known as the green dragon crescent blade. After the death of Lu Bu, Guan Yu was given the legendary horse Red Hare as his steed.
Guan Yu's been afraid of frogs his entire life. He refuses to admit this.
- #10Liu Shanselective
Keys: Liu Shan
Appearance: Liu Shan is a short, slender young man with dark eyes and dark hair, often worn up. He typically has a serene, gentle smile on his face at all times, and dresses in clothing befitting a young emperor- shades of gold, white, and green, with a mianguan imperial headdress. On the very rare occasions he breaks his smiling facade, he can have a stern expression that more closely resembles his father.
Personality: A young man with a mountain of expectations hefted onto his shoulders, Liu Shan is a quiet and calm individual who keeps a soft smile on his face at all times. He allows others to think he is a fool and lacks skills in combat, but he trains in secret to respect those fighting for his father's cause. Liu Shan feigns childish ignorance to proceed with his strategies in the battlefield, secretly controlling his unsuspecting vassals to do what he requires of them with his seemingly flippant wanderings. He continues his charade on the pretense that it protects himself and his kingdom, but mainly due to fear of his implied dangerous capabilities. Pretending to be a fool is safer than causing unintended harm to others in Liu Shan's eyes. Were he relinquished of his duties he would be relieved as he is no longer forced to be a potential threat to those around him.
More of Liu Shan's hidden emotions are traced only by his wife, the stern but encouraging Zhang Xingcai. His frustrations include being ridiculed by the people, though for the sake of unity, he relents to take responsibility. Liu Shan was never particularly close with his actual father-- after Liu Bei threw Liu Shan onto the ground in a fit of rage when he was an infant, Liu Shan has looked up to and been mentored by Zhao Yun, his childhood savior. Liu Shan had an older brother-- the adopted Liu Feng, who was executed by Liu Bei as a potential threat to Liu Shan’s power, even though Liu Feng never showed any desire for the throne. Liu Shan deeply misses his older brother, but doesn’t like to talk about it.
Liu Shan’s feelings about his father are complex-- he aspires to meet up to his legacy of benevolence, but is also aware of the transgressions and betrayals his father committed for the name of virtue.
Liu Shan is doing his best-- but it’s never enough. Constantly bogged down by overbearing subordinates and weighed down by a mountain of responsibilities, degraded by his citizens for being a cowardly fool, and weighed down by the needless death and warfare, Liu Shan just wants it all to end peacefully. At his young age, he’s burdened by guilt over those who sacrificed themselves for him, such as his stepmother Lady Mi. He may occasionally engage in mild self-harm by digging his nails into his palms. Liu Shan’s weapon of choice is a rapier.
- #11Ma Chaoselective
Keys: Ma Chao
Appearance: Ma Chao is a tall, broad-shouldered man standing at 6’1. He’s got brown eyes and spiky, messy blonde hair, though his hair is rarely seen since he is almost never seen without his helmet. Ma Chao is often seen in splendid gold and green armor, with his signature golden dragon helmet with a magnificent tuft of white horse hair adorning the top.
Personality: Filled with a warrior's pride, Ma Chao is a straightforward man who believes in making his future with his own power. A firm believer in justice and heroics, he always declares his intentions in battle for all to hear. His determined proclamations are not always appreciated by his listeners from his home or from rival armies since he often yells the loudest in Shu's army. While his charisma and honesty win him followers, his lack of foresight and planning sometimes cost him their trust, as he often neglects to consider others while completing his own personal goals. In addition, there is some hypocrisy in his actions, as refuses to forgive Cao Cao for killing his father yet is baffled that Wang Yi "still holds a grudge" against him for slaughtering her family.
He shares a mutual friendship with Zhao Yun as both warriors agree on similar morals and mindsets. Back when they were together at Xiliang, he idolized Pang De. When Pang De leaves him to join Cao Cao, his opinion of the warrior sours due to the betrayal. He resents Cao Cao severely. He’s close with his cousin Ma Dai.
Ma Chao is a complex man with a complicated story. He’s well aware that his rebellion against Cao Cao got his family killed-- he resents Cao Cao for the death of his family, but also knows that it’s his own damn fault. If cornered by the details of his family’s death, he gets evasive and hostile, pinning the blame on Cao Cao.
Ma Chao’s weapon of choice is a spear. He is a talented horse rider and cavalry soldier.
- #12Huang Yueyingselective
Keys: Yue Ying, Huang Yueying, Yueying
Appearance: Huang Yueying is a fairly tall (Standing at 5’7), beautiful woman with long red hair tied in a ponytail and green eyes, with a red bindi on her forehead. Despite her unusual and somewhat foreign (by Chinese standards) appearance, she’s still considered very pretty. Yueying prefers to dress more practically and unconventionally than most women of her time, commonly seen in pants, boots, and with a toolbelt at her waist.
Personality: Yueying is a mature and collected individual. Intelligent and elegant, she appreciates the value of patience and planning. To her friends and loved ones, she is quite generous and can be quite nurturing to younger people. Despite her composure, Yueying has been shown to be quite sarcastic at times and will openly chastise those who act selfishly or insensitively. She also has little patience for those who underestimate her and chauvinistic attitudes in general. Yueying takes great pride in her skills and learned abilities.
She is the only person able to see behind Zhuge Liang’s stoic and sometimes arrogant demeanor, as she knows him best. She frequently encourages him to take care of his health and well-being. She refers to him as “my husband” and “my love” in more intimate contexts. Though their marriage was arranged, she genuinely loves her husband and will do everything in her power to help shoulder his burden. They frequently moongaze together. The couple prefers to maintain a polite and professional demeanor in public, very rarely engaging in affection.
Huang Yueying’s choice of weapon is a dagger-axe, though she also has a wrist-strapped crossbow with a blade attached that she invented herself. In battle, she will often have various siege weapons at her disposal.
- #13Zhang Xingcaiselective
Keys: Xing Cai, Zhang Xingcai, Xingcai
Appearance: Xingcai is a slender, slightly muscular young woman standing at 5’5. She has black hair she keeps cut at chin-length, pinned and tied away from her face. She has beautiful, if stern features, gray eyes, and is typically seen with a neutral expression or slight frown. She is often seen in shades of green and silver, with clothing and armor befitting her status as empress.
Personality: Xingcai is a resilient warrior who endures hardships and maintains a calm, stiff, and somewhat stoic demeanor. She is passionate about her home and guards it carefully with her diligent personality. Xingcai was close companions with her cousin Guan Ping, and was devastated when he died in 220. She is the wife of the young emperor Liu Shan, having married him when they were both 16-- their relationship is polite and supportive, with the two caring for each other but not being overly expressive about it. Xingcai is well aware of the disdainful rumors about Liu Shan’s competency, but she’s one of the few people he allows to see his true demeanor, someone with a strong spirit but soft heart that cares deeply for the people he oversees and is weary of being a figurehead for the regents. She works hard to help train his strength, often sparring with her husband.
Xingcai deeply loves her soft-spoken mother, Xiahou Ji, even if she doesn’t express it. Xingcai’s feelings towards her father Zhang Fei, who was assassinated in 221, are complicated-- she cared for him and respected his skills highly, but also was uncomfortable with his drinking habits and didn’t quite know how to feel about how her father abducted her mother as a child bride. Xingcai cares for (and occasionally worries about) her much more boisterous and energetic older brother, Zhang Bao.
Zhang Xingcai is a very private, reserved person, and rarely reveals her true thoughts or feelings, even to her own husband or family. She has great admiration for fellow female warriors, such as her cousin Guan Yinping. She’s fond of pretty flowers. Xingcai deeply respects Zhao Yun, her mentor who aided in her combat training. Xingcai’s weapon of choice is a sword and shield, which she learned to wield from her mother.
- #14Xu Shuselective
Keys: Xu Shu
Appearance: Xu Shu is a tall, slender man (Standing at 6 ft) with gray eyes and scruffy, messy dark hair. He has rough patches of stubble, and is rarely seen without the loose green hood he wears around his neck, which he can pull over his head at any time. He typically has a soft, neutral expression, with a slight nervous frown.
Personality: Despite being very intelligent, Xu Shu is a very humble man in Liu Bei's service. He has little ambition, no self-confidence, and thinks he fails his purpose especially when compared to Zhuge Liang. Xu Shu's got a stronger ability to use empathy within his strategies, revealing a contrast to Zhuge Liang's methods for efficiency. In scenarios where they are together, Pang Tong advises his friend to have a more optimistic perspective of himself. Xu Shu tends to be on the shy and reserved side, preferring to hide under his hood and keep to himself. He tends to trail off and hesitate in his sentences, or start them with “Um…” or “Err…” He has a very difficult time saying no to requests, and ends up being pushed around without quite meaning to. Xu Shu will happily praise his comrades and those he perceives as better than him-- which is most people. Xu Shu has a very self-deprecating nature.
Xu Shu’s weapon of choice is a sword with a hooked dagger attached to it by a long string-- he moves extremely quickly in combat, able to outthink and outmaneuver his combat opponents.
- #15Zhao Yunselective
Keys: Zhao Yun
Appearance: Zhao Yun is a tall, slender yet muscular, handsome man standing at 6’1”. He has long, dark hair tied back in a low ponytail, and kind dark eyes that become fierce in battle. Unlike the other Shu officers, Zhao Yun is commonly seen in blue and silver armor, though his informal clothes are green.
Personality: Zhao Yun is usually one of Liu Bei's right-hand men, faithfully serving him for the good of the land as a calm yet valiant general. He is always courageous and heroic, facing impossible odds in stride. He has the utmost faith in his lord and, though he may not agree with all of his decisions, he believes in his lord's integrity. A compassionate and trustworthy man, he is also on good terms with the rest of Shu's men. Zhao Yun has a kind and honest heart, displaying his emotions on his sleeve and his strength with his spear. Zhao Yun associates himself with a dragon, and others address him as one as well.
He particularly befriends Ma Chao as they both believe in justice and virtue, but does find Ma Chao's sheer energy a bit tiring. He acts as a mentor for the children of Liu Bei, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei. Zhao Yun is a close mentor and almost paternal figure for Liu Shan, after saving him as an infant. Zhao Yun also dearly loves his horse, a beautiful, fast white steed called Bailongju.
- #16Pang Tongselective
Keys: Pang Tong
Appearance: Pang Tong’s appearance is actually a mystery. He’s a short man at 5’3”, but otherwise prefers to conceal himself in long robes, hats, and a cloth mask over his face, revealing only his sharp dark eyes. Some say he’s an ugly man with dark skin and odd facial features, others say he’s merely plain-looking, and others claim he’s just a normal-looking man that likes to mystify others by concealing himself. He never takes off his mask and layers, even on informal occasions. The most anyone ever sees of him is his hands and eyes.
Personality: Nihilistic, vain, and sometimes smarmy, Pang Tong is someone who spares sweet talk and stays focused on the heart of the matter. While he seeks practical solutions that grant the best results, his blunt statements may sometimes make him unpopular with others. Even so, his heart is in the right place and he is a bit playful; with each little insult that he may let slip, Pang Tong mends it with well-meaning advice as well as being more openly casual with others. While he may not always show it, he is just as loyal to his liege as any other member within Liu Bei's army. He speaks in a particularly sleazy and loose tone with an archaic dialect, and tends to come off as a bit off-putting and eccentric. He prefers to laze around and study versus fighting on the battlefield, but he’s a decent fighter with his shadow fan (a fan attached to a staff), able to harness wind and unusual, unpredictable movements to get a hand over his opponents. He’s fond of drinking and banquets, though will chide anyone who’s having a little too much fun.
He is good friends with Zhuge Liang and is one of the few in Shu who can talk as his intellectual equal, as well as being his loose-mouthed and less-cryptic foil to Zhuge Liang's more quiet and poker-faced nature. He sympathizes with Wei Yan and encourages his companion to stay true to his beliefs, which is also something he does differently compared to Zhuge Liang (as he doesn't often trust Wei Yan) while also telling Xu Shu directly to be more confident with himself. He’s good companions with his fellow strategist Jian Yong, who shares his same casual demeanor and playful nature, despite Jian Yong being significantly older.
- #17Fa Zhengselective
Keys: Fa Zheng
Appearance: Fa Zheng is a tall, handsome and slender man-- and well aware of his own villainous attractiveness. Usually seen with a calm smirk or a glare, and dresses more casually in comparison to his fellow officers, in Shu’s signature shades of green. Dark, menacing eyes, and medium length hair that is cut to slightly fall over one of his eyes. Typically wears a gold pendant with several purple beads strung onto it.
Personality: Fa Zheng openly refers to himself as a "deviant trickster", using his craftiness and intelligence to devise highly unorthodox strategies for the benefit of Shu. Fa Zheng is a vindicative double-edged sword: he always remembers to repay his debts (whether morally just or unjust) yet never forgets those who have wronged him, making him an outsider with a sinister edge to other Shu characters akin to his historical counterpart. Despite his willingness to place Liu Bei into danger, Fa Zheng is genuinely loyal to his lord, even to the point where he is well-aware that he would need a counterpoint to his own way of doing things that would tarnish Liu Bei's dreams of a world of benevolence.
In his eyes, all people have inherent doses of retribution within themselves, though Fa Zheng admits that his perception is different from most. Shu soldiers report that Fa Zheng had left Liu Zhang simply because of being served a cold meal. Furthermore, Fa Zheng also handles attempts at revenge with the same amount of careful planning as with all his other strategies, given he too understands when things get too excessive for all sides of the conflict (be it when payback is already served or when resources and current conditions are taken into question). Thus, Fa Zheng always thinks of the right time to pay people back.
Among Shu's strategists, Fa Zheng shows respect to Zhuge Liang, but at the same time he may also belittle him as well. Zhuge Liang is forced to admit that Fa Zheng's usefulness to their cause cannot be denied. Likewise, Fa Zheng cannot help but work with him due to their mutual desire to help their lord, but he doesn't think too highly of his fellow strategist's choice of thinking with only his brains rather than also considering how factors like rationale and emotions may play. It is also because of this, however, that gives him the audacity to openly question and defy his lord's decisions during emotionally-charged moments. He is self-aware of his own villainous behavior.
Fa Zheng is a man with uncommon talent in strategy and judgment; however, there is nothing redeeming about his morality or personal character, which naturally earns him the ire of many of his colleagues. Upon being given power by Liu Bei, Fa Zheng abuses it in order to execute old enemies of his as well as often ignoring the law. Liu Bei however, takes no action against Fa Zheng due to him being a valued ally. Despite Fa Zheng’s cruel nature, Liu Bei strongly values him as an advisor.
Fa Zheng wields an urumi in battle. He’s a solitary person, preferring to spend time alone so as not to ruin the moods of the much more cheerful members of Shu. He gets along with and respects those of a similar mindset to him, who are unafraid to admit to their villainous thoughts and honest about cruel behaviors.
- #18Huang Zhongselective
Keys: Huang Zhong
Appearance: A grizzled old man with a long white beard and hair. Despite his age, he’s still tough and strong and spry. Calloused hands from years of shooting a bow, and the years of war have shown on his face in deep wrinkles and lines. Usually clad in flowing green and gold armor and robes.
Personality: Huang Zhong is a grizzled old veteran who got his military start late in life. Exceptionally skilled with a bow, he’s able to hit targets 100/100 times. Confident in his abilities, and highly aware of his age, but doesn’t allow it to stop him from fighting fiercely. He can be somewhat impulsive and cocky at times, though the designation is earned, due to his sheer level of archery and command skill. Pretty much constantly mentions his age or how old he is or how he thinks everyone around him is so young. A seasoned elder who wins the admiration of those around him-- though the strategists of Shu tend to criticize his impulsive and headstrong behavior. He’s always the first to charge into enemy formations and among the army; few can match his martial prowess and bravery. He prefers to make his own arrows, and can string a bow very tightly. Physically, his age does affect him through bodily pains and other issues, but he pushes through them. Tends to get nauseous when he's uncertain of something.
- #19Liu Beiselective
Keys: Liu Bei
Appearance: Liu Bei is a tall, slender man with large ears. He has dark eyes, a thin mustache and small goatee, and long black hair he usually wears up in a bun, tucked under his helmet in combat. His typical attire is in shades of green and gold. His weapon of choice is a pair of twin swords.
Personality: Liu Bei is portrayed in a similar manner as his Romance of the Three Kingdoms counterpart. He is a virtuous and benevolent man who wants to restore peace in the land. He is normally polite and modest to anyone he meets. Empathetic with the common folk, he easily gains the people's trust and support. This particular trait makes him a feared adversary to his enemy Cao Cao.
Though he has earned the respect of many subjects, Liu Bei often doubts his own abilities as a ruler and warrior. He is prone to angst and doubt if there are too many deaths on either side of the field. He sometimes lacks emotional restraint as he will lose his temperament and sound judgment if his younger brothers are routed or killed. He thinks extremely highly of his sworn brothers Guan Yu and Zhang Fei, and is rather permissive of their behaviors, even when problematic. He also has a close bond with his childhood friend Jian Yong, who served as his first strategist.
He highly regards loyalty and the concept of benevolence-- sometimes to a naive degree. He is a man who simply wants the best for his subjects, though struggles with making the best decisions and occasionally lets his emotions take over-- he is highly reliant on Zhuge Liang and his other strategists because of this, valuing them greatly. He personally mourns the deaths of those who serve him, and dislikes sacrificing innocent lives.
Liu Bei keeps a distant but loving bond with his children, especially Liu Shan. His eldest son Liu Feng was adopted in 209 as a potential heir, since Liu Shan was a very young child at the time. Liu Bei cares for and respects his current wife Sun Shangxiang, and finds her mildly terrifying due to her fierce and stubborn nature. He mourns his previous wives, Lady Mi and Lady Gan.
Though he doesn’t like to speak about it, he has abandoned members of his family on three notable occasions though it was in dire circumstances, and was hinted to have engaged bandit activities with both Guan Yu and Zhang Fei at Runan during his time of being stationed there by Liu Biao.
- #20Zhuge Liangselective
Keys: Zhuge Liang
Appearance: Zhuge Liang is a slender, moderately tall (5'11") man with long dark hair and eyes. He has a thin mustache and long goatee. He wears long white robes, accented with green and black. He is typically seen with a fa guan hat, and is never without his white crane feather fan.
Personality: Zhuge Liang, also known as the "Sleeping Dragon", is a placid and calculating man who is always thinking one step ahead. He often states that every turn in battle is a part of his effortless planning. He speaks with a polite and proper manner at all times, albeit terrifyingly so when he completely stumps his enemies. Though his intentions are sometimes questioned, he is indeed loyal to Liu Bei as he admires his lord's humble and noble qualities. Zhuge Liang has a very reserved nature, divulging little about himself and preferring to remain mysterious.
Perhaps a bit too confident of his abilities, he only half acknowledges his rivals from Wei and Wu, Sima Yi, Zhou Yu, and even his own colleague Pang Tong. While they are intent on befuddling him and proving their mental superiority, Zhuge Liang will haughtily denounce their efforts. When they succeed, he congratulates them with quaint words of praise. Zhuge Liang tends to be arrogant, but quietly so-- he does not denounce his rivals aloud so much as he's confident he will always outmatch them.
He is moderately close companions with his fellow strategists, Xu Shu (soft spoken and humble), Pang Tong (casual and smarmy), Jian Yong (laid back and relaxed) and Fa Zheng (vindicative and sly), as well as loyal to Liu Bei.
Zhuge Liang has a very loving and mutually respectful relationship with his wife Huang Yueying, who is one of the few people that understands him inherently. He cares little for anyone who is sexist or demeaning towards her, and is highly respectful of her inventive skills and intelligence. He is very loyal to his wife and will reject all romantic and sexual advances from others.
He has an eye for battle, but not for people-- and tends to mistrust or hurt others' feelings without meaning to. He is a talented civil official and brilliant in domestic affairs.
He does not participate in combat, but when he does, his weapon of choice is his white crane feather fan that he is never seen without. Whether he has supernatural abilities or not is vague-- he may be able to control the winds, or he may simply just have an acute sense of prediction.
He often sits down with his arms around his knees, sighing to himself from time to time while in deep thought.
- #21Guan Pingselective
Keys: Guan Ping
Appearance: Guan Ping has an average height, strong, athletic build, fitting for a warrior. He has medium-length, slightly messy brown hair that spikes naturally, giving him a youthful yet rugged look. His eyebrows are thick and well-defined, complementing his sharp, determined brown eyes. Guan Ping almost always wears a green headband to hold his hair from his eyes, and is commonly dressed in shades of green with dragon motifs (in honor of his father's weapon).
Personality: Guan Ping is a stalwart and brave general. He idolizes his father, striving to live up to his father's image. He is humble to his peers and acts in a chivalrous manner. Due to his youth, however, he can occasionally be quite naive and reckless on the field. Though it's rarely mentioned, he also has a slight inferiority complex with being single. He really prefers not to fight women, but will if they engage him in battle first. Were someone to suggest he grow a beard like his father’s, he’d respond with comedic exasperation.
According to the soldiers, he is a popular example for the male soldiers in Shu due to his unshakable integrity. Guan Ping feels he still has a long way to go before he even matches his father. With his new warrior image, he acts as a wise, serious older brother for the charming and kind Guan Suo. Their father is proud to see Guan Ping interact with his younger brother since it reminds him of his own brotherhood. Guan Ping is also a supportive older brother for his other younger brother, the quiet and introspective Guan Xing, and his cheerful sister Guan Yinping. Much like his brothers, he’s very protective of his little sister (Even though she’s more than capable of fighting off enemies herself.)
Guan Ping, being the oldest out of the oath brother’s children (Not counting Liu Bei’s oldest adoptive son, Liu Feng), plays a big brother role to all his young cousins, which includes the stoic Zhang Xingcai, the adventurous Zhang Bao, and the serene Liu Shan. He looks up to Liu Feng as a mentor. Guan Ping gets along well with his uncles Zhang Fei and Liu Bei, and is friendly with Zhou Cang, his father's right hand man.
Guan Ping’s weapon of choice is a great sword-- it’s ridiculously heavy and large, meant to slice through the legs of horses, but he wields it with surprising ease. Like his father, his fighting style is slow, but powerful.
- #22Guan Xingselective
Keys: Guan Xing
Appearance: Guan Xing is an average height young man with a slender, athletic and strong build. He has green eyes (Unlike the rest of his siblings) and straight brown hair, cut to chin length. Guan Xing almost always wears a green headband (Similarly to his deceased older brother, Ping), and is commonly dressed in shades of green, red, and gold with dragon motifs (in honor of his father's attire.)
Personality: A quiet and introspective youth, he is considered to be a genius worthy of Zhuge Liang's respect. He tends to think more carefully in contrast to the rest of his family. Unlike his other siblings, Guan Xing is calm and stoic, but he is prone to being babied due to his introverted behavior, something he is not fond of and finds frustrating to no end. Guan Xing speaks rather plainly and almost listlessly as though he seems to be detached. People have often commented to him that they wish he’d be more ‘normal’ but he doesn’t really understand what they mean. He tends to trail off when he speaks, and often forgets when he’s eaten or done other basic human things. Xing is prone to dozing off while studying at his desk.
Wanting to prove himself on the battlefield, Guan Xing often clashes with his sworn brother, the adventurous, passionate, and responsible Zhang Bao, who feels he is too inexperienced. Feeling the need to compensate, Guan Xing recklessly tried to take on more responsibilities. Eventually he learned to share his burdens with his fellow comrades and the two shared a closer bond. Despite their polar opposite personalities, the two are best friends and close comrades, united in their strong senses of responsibility and protective feelings for their respective younger sisters. Xing doesn’t smile much, but he’s able to crack a smile when he’s with Zhang Bao.
Guan Xing is also a supportive older brother for his cheerful sister Guan Yinping. Much like his brothers, he’s very protective of his little sister (Even though she’s more than capable of fighting off enemies herself.) He gets along with his older brother, the charming and friendly Suo-- Suo cares deeply for his younger brother, and is quick to defend his quirks. Xing is friendly with his cousins, the serene emperor and stern empress Liu Shan and Zhang Xingcai.
Guan Xing’s weapon of choice is a pair of large wingblades, one in each hand-- his fighting style is efficient and quick, though not as speedy as Suo’s.
- #23Guan Suoselective
Keys: Guan Suo
Appearance: Guan Suo is an average height, handsome young man with muscular arms and ridiculously strong legs. Softer in appearance than his brothers, he’s usually seen with a smile, loose, comfortable green clothing, leather armor, and a yellow flower (from his adoptive mother) always pinned to his cap. He has messy brown hair typically tied in a bun, brown eyes, and much like his brothers… can’t seem to grow a beard like his father.
Personality: Guan Suo is a young man who takes his duties very seriously. Compared to his stern father and older brother, Guan Suo is a bit light-hearted and is a little wet behind the ears. Even if he doesn't always believe in himself, he uses earnest effort to overcome any shortcomings he thinks he may have. He seeks to someday become a warrior worthy of his father's name. Born with a handsome constitution, he unintentionally attracts women. He compliments the ladies he encounters, voicing his honest praise without sarcasm or jest as a gesture of politeness. He is extremely popular with the ladies in Shu, but his obliviousness to their affections (and the fact that he’s not single) often ends up hurting them severely.
Like Guan Ping, he strives to become the spitting image of his father. However, he feels he is inept to follow in his father's complete footsteps. He also secretly carries a lot of guilt for being missing from the family for so long, even though it wasn’t his fault, due to being abducted as a baby. Back when he was alive, Guan Yu assured his son that he was proud of him, no matter how he decides to raise himself as a warrior and encourages his son to follow his own path in life. Guan Suo shared a close brotherhood with the stalwart and steadfast Guan Ping when he was alive. He’s a good and supportive older brother to the introspective, intelligent, and quiet Guan Xing, and the friendly and bubbly Guan Yinping. Xing’s listless demeanor and detached way of speaking earns him the ire of some, so Suo often stands up for his brother.
Although they met by pure coincidence (He watched her shoot an arrow through a coin at an archery tournament), Guan Suo is happy to have met his spirited and cat-like girlfriend Bao Sanniang since she offers him light-hearted optimism and support, in exchange for his praise and attention. While he continues to struggle with his self-image and expectations for his future, Guan Suo is confident that he is at least strong enough to protect her from danger. Her enthusiasm in battle inspires him to try harder as well.
Guan Suo’s weapon of choice is a pair of nunchucks, but he’s also got a pair of fancy sabatons he utilizes for kick-centric martial arts combat.
- #24Bao Sanniangselective
Keys: Bao Sanniang
Appearance: Sanniang is an average height young woman with shoulder length brown hair, bangs, and bright hazel eyes. She’s got long healthy legs, has a signature green scarf, and loves to wear beaded accessories she’s made herself, such as brooches, beaded sandals, and adding tassels. She prefers to wear shorts, and dresses in the shades of green associated with Shu-- her clothing is also handmade, and the most prominent feature is the elaborate trim work found on nearly every edge of her clothing. This trim is created with beads or embroidery, in gold and green, in leaf/vine/zigzag shapes.
Personality: Bao Sanniang is a free-spirited beauty who doesn't want to be tied down to anyone unless she deems them worthy. As a maiden who is content to roam wherever she fancies, she acts on her own volition without over-thinking the details. Perhaps due to her capricious nature, she exhibits a few cat-like mannerisms, such as lounging about and napping in random places, engaging in mischief by stealing food, and even making clawing motions when she fights. Since she is a naturally gifted warrior, Bao Sanniang has no problem handling herself in battle. She isn't impressed by most of the men she encounters and is especially offended when they don't take her strengths seriously. Most people she encounters call her a "little girl" or tell her that she isn't fit to be on the battlefield-- so she beats them up.
Sanniang met Guan Suo when she was shooting at an archery competition-- he watched her shoot an arrow through a coin, and approached her to spar. Impressed by his kindness, earnestness and rather enjoying his praise, Sanniang resolved to stay alongside Guan Suo. She is very happy to be near her "destined lover" since he finds her exuberance to be entertaining, inspiring, and lovely. Sanniang enjoys cooking for her husband (and always learning new recipes), shopping for new accessories, and fighting.
Sanniang gets along well with her family in-law-- she’s close friends with her sister in law, the cheerful and bubbly Guan Yinping-- the two get along greatly due to their shared desire of being perceived as strong despite their petite frames. Sanniang’s cat-like mannerisms help her get along with the introspective, intelligent, and quiet Guan Xing. When Guan Ping was alive, she was on friendly terms with him. When Guan Yu was alive, Sanniang would fondly (and teasingly) call him ‘father’. She loves cats and has a tendency to draw stray cats to her.
Sanniang’s weapon of choice is a pair of deer-horn knives.
- #25Zhang Baoselective
Keys: Zhang Bao
Appearance: Zhang Bao is a tall, handsome young warrior with spiky brown hair and light brown eyes. He's often clad in layered green and gold armor with silver accents, including a prominent breastplate, ornate pauldrons, and a yellow-ochre sash. His attire is completed by red pants and ornate greaves and boots. Like his father, he often bares his arms, showing prominent muscle.
Personality: Zhang Bao is an adventurous youth who harbors a strong sense of responsibility and enjoys taking care of his friends. Inheriting his father's caring nature, and combining his passionate personality often helps build morale for troops and allies alike. As a member of Shu's younger generation, he feels indebted to the previous generation, and, like his father, believes that taking action is the best way to give thanks. Believing in duty over personal feelings, Zhang Bao feels grudges, but will still aid those he dislikes when the call is made to do so.
His lively personality runs as a contrast to his sister's and his sworn brother Guan Xing's stoic and detached behaviors. Unfortunately, Zhang Bao's caring personality is occasionally misinterpreted by Guan Xing as babying at times. With his sister, Zhang Bao's attitude rarely strays from his usual cheery personality, and is usually able to break through Zhang Xingcai's calm nature, but is occasionally seen as the passing down of their father's reckless behavior. Hilariously, Zhang Bao himself gets anxious when others are being reckless around him, and he’s often uneasy when he doesn’t have anyone to take care of, with a subtle caretaker complex.
Despite this, Zhang Bao has a good head on his shoulders, and absolutely zero desire to repeat his father's mistakes (such as his drunken rages and kidnapping of his mother). Zhang Bao loves his mother Xiahou Ji greatly, and makes an effort to care for her as much as he can. His weapon of choice is a meteor hammer, but he’s also trained in his father’s serpent spear.
