Shoto Kazama

A first-year university student who is knowledgeable about Digimon and the Digimon Card Game. Skilled at breaking the ice with people, he's so adept at charming and inviting newly met acquaintances out for meals that he's sometimes called "supernaturally social." However, he also has a tendency to give up at crucial moments in competitions that has been causing him trouble. Amidst this, an encounter in the virtual world of Digimon Liberator, initiated by an invitation from his childhood friend Arisa Kinosaki, starts to reshape everything within him. He met Pteromon, a heroic new Digimon who integrated into his deck and helped him build his confidence. Now, he, Pteromon, and his original partner Muchomon join the debug team to expunge the odd occurrences within Digimon Liberator. He can be a bit cautious and wary of danger, but he’s very caring and means well. He gets frustrated when he’s being teased or looked down upon, and snaps back if his buttons are pushed too much. When he was little, he was friends with world-class player and fellow debugger Owen Dreadnaught, and Shoto used to think that Owen left because Shoto gave up too easily, but Owen has since clarified that he had no ill intent and always wanted to see the best in Shoto, even if bringing out the best meant being harsh. Since then, Shoto and Owen have mended their friendship and become a lot more casual.

Pteromon is a new type of Digimon who loves freedom and thoroughly enjoys being unbound by anything. It was supposed to be a wild Digimon not part of Digimon Liberator, but after meeting Shoto, it decided to become his partner. Convinced that it is the elder brother figure in their relationship, it frequently attempts to establish its seniority. It possesses a unique set of values stemming from its nurturing nature and self-confidence, and believes that "the strong must protect the weak".

Muchomon is a very nervous and shy Digimon, though it always means well and does it's best to help Shoto and his friends. Muchomon used to feel a bit of resentment towards Pteromon before Shoto reassured it that it would never be abandoned. Muchomon is content to assist when it needs to and is always glad to see Shoto again. Muchomon and Shoto have a secret handshake.
