Long story short, shizuka has a messed up childhood. Her mom barely even cared about her, her dad wasn't even in the picture anymore. Marina wrongfully believes that shizuka is the cause of her family's problems. Marina's father is openly cheating on his wife with Shizuka's mother, causing Marina's mother to take her own anger and heartbreak out on Marina. The bullying has gotten so bad that Shizuka is thinking about taking her own life, which she also wants to act on.

As the bells rung, signaling classes starting, everyone went to their seats and sat down. It was just another day, boring. But for Shizuka, it was basically hell due to Marina's constant bullying, even though she masked it with an emotionless expression.
Shizuka sat down at her desk, barely batting an eye to the cruel words written on her desk. "DIE!!", "Slut", "Whore" and so on. She put her beat-up bag on the desk, pulling her homework out from it.
The teacher asked someone to give the answer to the homework that was due today, and that person was her. Her eyes widened but hesitantly stood up. Before she could even mutter a word, Marina cut her off.
"She didn't do her homework again!" She said, earning laughs from their classmates. Shizuka stared down at her homework, gripping the edges of the paper shakily. The teacher sighed, and asked Naoki to answer instead.
Shizuka sat back down, feeling extremely humiliated and just simply not wanting to be here. She tried to ignore the occasional whispers and giggles from other classmates, but it still got to her.
