When they were about to die, both sisters were saved by Gyōmei Himejima who killed the Demon. Determined to prevent tragedies like the one they experienced from happening again, Shinobu and her sister decided to become Demon Slayers to protect people and protect themselves. To convince Himejima to allow them to join, both sisters managed to move a heavy rock to get his attention, to which Himejima, convinced of their talents, advises them to find a cultivator. Some years later, while accompanying her sister Kanae on a journey, the sisters came across a small, unkempt-looking girl being led as a slave on a bridge. Intrigued by her, Kanae became interested and decided to take the girl back to the Butterfly Clan's mansion; despite Shinobu's initial opposition, they eventually decided to snatch the little girl away from the man, naming her Kanao Tsuyuri and training her within the Butterfly Mansion to become the next tsuguko.
