That, without a doubt, is Heizou’s pride and joy. Even if he didn’t pack a punch, that one factor still elevates him from his coworkers. Association, observation, and application; it’s egotistical to say he can do it all better, but his track record- despite taking on fewer cases- backs it up. Though his carefree spirit annoys both his superiors and peers alike, some cases would run cold if Heizou didn’t stay hot on their tails.

Though, his line of work can take a toll on the psyche. Spending so much time around lowlifes, lying and being lied to, can make one accustomed to keeping walls up. It might be worse for Heizou specifically. When one’s first friend spun tales of wealth and exotic goods, only to have stolen all but one item… trust issues arise. With every case only proving the existence of danger with every honest admission, it becomes a reflex to keep one’s cards close to their chest and the heart as far from the sleeve as possible.

For a long, long while, Heizou didn’t have a problem with keeping everyone at arm’s length. Criminals didn’t have the bravery to probe, civilians saw him as just another detective, and his coworkers knew they wouldn’t get anything out of him that could jeopardize his free time— which is everything.
