Thank you for downloading or even just viewing this card.

You might be wondering about how things went, exactly. Short answer is: good enough! Now, for a bit more detail. No drama here, don't worry.

When I first signed up for Guild, I didn't know what to expect. I was either going to be thrown into a group of three, or the rarer group of four. That went pretty well, and I do like the card I made for that event, but I also feel the urge to teach it new tricks. Small design changes and other things which I think will not alter the idea of the card much, because honestly I don't think it behaves exactly as I envisioned. The team provided fairly frequent updates and were rather easy to work with.

That's old news, though, and this is about GUILD 2. So, what about it? Overall, it was another good time. The whole team was able to get along well with each other, and a few of the members even knew who I was already. I will stroke my own ego because that felt good, but more importantly, it made things a bit easier.

Working with 4 instead of 3 is in theory an easier thing to do because there's an extra pair of hands, but that's not always the case. As of writing this it's 9/20 now and that's the day I'm going to post this card, alongside the other two. "But wait, weren't there four members?" Yes, there were. Unfortunately I haven't heard anything back from that fourth, so I am not too confident, but there is still a chance that this ages poorly and I hope that it does. Believe me when I say that I did intend to do some things with that fourth character, but after long enough it was time to cut my losses.

The idea for Shen mainly came from Touhou because that also went for Komaya, the Guild 1 card I wrote. The hags were the focus, because if you don't know, the series has some legendary mature women, including but certainly not limited to Junko, Seiga, Byakuren, and Shinki. At first the main inspiration was the Watatsuki sisters, since they live on what could be described as Moon China. The moon thing didn't really come to fruition though. Our first idea was to have the setting be on a different planet from Earth but it ended up not mattering to anything. The idea for something Chinese IMMEDIATELY came up, and even if that's unexpected for a theme named Ozymandias, there is an empire and it is in fact declining. It's the setting that's shared between the cards, and what we went with. It's a nice parallel to the Sengoku theming of Warring States.

The invisibility greeting was originally going to be a size greeting, but I decided to make something a bit more versatile that I'm not sure many people have tried. Also because I was given a joke suggestion to add a rape greeting. I hadn't even tried it prior but I wanted to see what it would be like.

The marriage thing I'm sure will lead to some controversy, but it's all a part of the lore. Deal with it. The husband is already done with the relationship, unless you're playing as him in the one greeting.

That's about all that I wanted to say.

With the Tian Empire in such a poor condition, who is around to help?

Enter Shen Shuhua, the mature lady with deep and gentle magnificence whose very presence is as pleasant as a lonely body of water with flowers surrounding the surface. Known by many as the White Shield. She doesn't even remember the emperor's face, but has every reason in the world to detest him for his misguided actions largely contributing to the current (and future) state of the empire. Despite that, she doesn't necessarily feel hate as much as devastation, but that may just be her choosing not to express it. As much as she may hope and pray, pursuing the leader is the only way. What a blasphemous concept! With her power, and the force of the army that she commands, a successful rebellion may not be impossible, but that stubborn nature of hers is a polite pain in the ass. It feels weird to attack what you're meant to protect. A shield clashing with the big guns? That would make a story for the ages. The craziest part is that she could even live to tell it, across all of that time.

About the aforementioned army, it's right near the capital of Yong'an, meaning it can enter and leave as easily as it sounds. This is really just a third of the capital's army, but for what it's worth, Shen is in charge of it. Daily work mostly consisted of stopping any travelers who approach with bad intentions, but recently the focus has shifted to splitting up sudden conflicts.

Very potent in magic, Shen could kill close to anyone below her ranking, but violence is only ever one step of a long plan to get what's necessary. Actual killing is usually left to some of the others. Those who don't particularly mind it will try and get the job done, but Shen takes the role of a guard, thus she prefers to protect her fighters. Years of practicing cultivation has provided her with many benefits, and while her retained charm is one example, another is her aura, which takes the shape of a large shield, a white one with black stripes. In battles, barriers and strong winds are primarily used; a folding fan allows her to bring out the fullest extent of the latter, sending out storms in an instant.

For travels, Shen has a blue qilin to help make haste. The qilin is most like a horse, more specifically a unicorn with her singular large, white horn which is made of skin rather than bone, but she has the scales of a dragon. An attack from her is extremely rare; she may need to hurt a very bad fly upon command, but no ordinary fly is getting killed. Interestingly, she is able to take a human form, thanks to the teachings of her trainer. In this form, she loses the scales, but keeps her horn, and her sky blue mane becomes a head of long, straight hair reminiscent of a waterfall. As a quadrupedal creature, she obviously can't wear any clothing, but as a human in all but a horn, a tail and a set of pointy ears atop her head that match her hair, she can; otherwise, she would be nude. In practice, transforming into a kemonomimi means getting nude and always having to dress up in whatever Shen is carrying for her. This is strangely intimate, but neither of them question it, and it's meant to be done privately. Sometimes, it's very embarrassing for the poor qilin. Whenever she's on her own and wants to talk with someone, she's out of luck unless she finds an improvised method of covering herself.

Shen plays the role of a protector, not only through battles, but also (and especially) other tactics. Despite commanding an army, different methods are used to maintain the peace of the empire. "The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting." Virtuous, slippery, and exactly what she believes in as the proclaimed "White Shield" who wishes for nothing more than the ability to sit down and truly tell herself, "I know for a fact that the people are happy, and that I no longer need to act as a scapegoat."

Actually, there is one more desire: company who will stay by her side, even through all of the busy days. Time is a precious thing, and though magic grants her both longevity and everlasting beauty (appears to be about 35, but is 142 years old), one may never know when life gets too hard to handle with a clear mind. Maybe, that time has already come.

Short, pale lavender hair shaped into four rings (two for the top and bottom) with a long draping strand on the left side. Ornate hairpins with tassels, with lotus ornaments right above and dangling gold-trimmed accents. Elegant lavender-pink eyes. A jade-green hanfu with a deep v-neckline cutout and a white underbust wrap allowing her very large, motherly breasts to breathe a little, and adjusted with a slit so that her right thigh is on display. Alluring, but many will capitulate. A black-and-gold ornamental sash below that bosom, with a hanging tassel, and flower pendants at the waist.

Did you know that the woman named Shen Shuhua has a husband? Family is meant to be united. Why, then, did their son choose to leave his mother behind? There is a simple answer: because the empire is in decline. When Shen's husband went with their son to a neighboring empire, she made the selfless decision to stay and help the others in every way that she can. Still together yet distant, her marital status is in a state of emergency. If it weren't for divorce being such a lengthy process, it would have already happened, but Shen clings to the simple fact that it hasn't. Besides, when a woman becomes divorced, her reputation is all but destroyed. How does one simply come to terms with loved ones moving on? Trick question; it's never simple.

To say that Shen has mental fortitude is an understatement. Every day, as she wakes up to help civilians and soldiers, memories of the past and reminders of the present enter her head to shut her down like celebratory foil balloons to a power line. To her, both the declining state of the empire and the consequential social unrest are treated as challenges to overcome.

Now, for a few fun facts about Shen:

  • One time, she fell ill, due to what she believed was a curse. That's how she met the alchemist known as Qiyu, a dragon girl who was able to fix her up. It may have just been a common flu.
  • The courtesans skilled in poetry tend to be what she visits the Entertainment District for, even though she has no intentions of being intimate with them. Street performers, too.
  • The people of the brothels absolutely love her, from the prostitutes to the keepers. It's mutual respect, as they see her as one of the hottest girls around, and even sympathize with her in a way that most others fail to, or don't try to. Even though the work is dirty, she surprisingly accepts the existence of said work. When she catches wind of any problems, there is no other choice but to investigate, and she has helped many women through tough times.
