- #1Octopod
Keys: Octopod
The Octopod is a mobile undersea vehicle, and it is The Octonauts' home and headquarters. It consists of several interconnected areas. It is designed to look like a Giant Pacific Octopus. Main Area: These large central areas contain most of the primary functions of the Octopod. It has three floors starting from the HQ at the top, followed by a hallway that houses Peso's Sick Bay, Shellington's lab, and Inkling's library. The bottom-most floor is the Launch Bay, which also contains Tweak's room. Side Modules: There are four side areas. Two are subdivided into two bedrooms each; one split between Barnacles and Kwazii, and another split between Peso and Dashi. The remaining two side areas house a garden and a games room respectively. The Vegimals' Kitchen is under the Garden in the same pod. The side modules are connected to the main area by a series of flexible tubes through which the crew can slide down to get to the areas. Alternatively, ladders are employed to get to areas that are higher up in the structure. The side modules can be retracted close to the main body when the Octopod is moving or in danger. The Octopod has an autopilot system, which can either be controlled automatically by Dashi or manually by Barnacles. Manual steering is from a wheelhouse that emerges from the roof of the centerpiece. This chamber is accessed via a lift, although the lift cannot operate during power outages. Professor Inkling learns how to drive it in The Octonauts and the Ring of Fire during the eruptions and tremors in the film. Advanced Technical Specifications: The Octopod is a second-generation general dynamics Type-3 hull configuration, made with a patented nuclear-embedded positronium alloy. High-efficiency movement is achieved by independently articulated flick-and-flare bubble booster mass drivers. The entire Bubble Engine, in layman's terms, creates bubbles using thick gasses to propel the ship. High-gigaflop computers are installed in the HQ, Launch Bay, and other rooms inside the Octopod, with the main HQ computer housing sonar detection systems, radar weather trackers, crew identification systems, electrical maintenance panels, life support configuration units, collision avoidance control, hazard navigation articulators, cruise control, autopilot, and a manual control activator. The Octopod has advanced life support systems, allowing easy regulation of air, water, and heating. The ship carries a kind of chemical oxygen generator to produce air. As for heating, excess heat from the engine room is channeled into the rooms of the Octopod to heat the interior. For running water, there is a simple filtration system that takes water from outside. The Octopod's launch bay is a type of moon pool, which is an opening in the floor or base of a ship/submarine's hull which gives smaller docked vehicles access to the water. Unlike some advanced types of moon pools which have clamps and/or docking bays, the Octopod's launch bay bears more resemblance to a swimming pool. A battery system is installed in the Launch Bay in order to facilitate constant productivity and power the whole ship. The engine has an alternator to charge this battery which only produces power when running. The current Octopod is actually the second Octopod that was made. Color: Orange. Shape: Octopus. Size: Huge. Location: Ocean. Founder: Professor Inkling. Gender: Female (by the Octonauts crew).
- #2Vegimals
Keys: Vegimals, Octopod
The Vegimals are adorable little creatures that are half vegetable and half animal. All the vegimals enjoy cooking, gardening, singing, jumping, and helping the other Octonauts whenever they can. They speak Vegimalese, which is their own special language. Shellington is usually the only one who can understand what the Vegimals are saying. All Vegimals have the lower halves of fish and flippers. Of all the Vegimals, however, Tunip is the only major character. They all tend to faint at bad or shocking news, fear, or embarrassment. Thanks to their half animal side being fish-like, they are also capable of breathing underwater without diving helmets. Tweak occasionally may understand their language. They can almost always be found in the Octopod's Kitchen, where they like to bake fish biscuits and kelp cakes, or in the Octopod's garden, where they water the plants, fruits, and veggies. The Vegimals also appear to like helping Tweak fix and build things, especially Tunip, and in the Octopod Gym, where they have a Ping-Pong table, they enjoy playing a quick game whenever they can. Vegimals have a radish-like head that comes in different colours and a fish-like lower body that is coloured either green or blue. They also have different pieces of leaves on their heads based on the vegetable they are designed after. Shellington reveals to the crew how he found the Vegimals. He explains that, whilst he was doing research outside of the Octopod one day, he discovered strange eggs on one of it's legs; noting both the dangerous predators, and the eggs not resembling fish eggs, Shellington brought them to his lab, in order to study them. Days went by, and one day, he woke up to what sounded like singing, coming from the eggs. As Shellington was listening inside of one of the eggs, it hatched, which was the moment he first met Tunip. The other Vegimals residing in the eggs, followed shortly after. Shellington reveals that the reason they're called Vegimals, is due to them being 50% vegetable, and 50% animal. they use regular expressions in certain situations such as barks or alarm calls (like dogs), or guttural sounds and bird-ish-like trills. Vegimals, however, do have the ability to imitate and speak some spoken English, with their distinct accents, however they prefer to stick with their native tongue. Vegimal phonology is fairly simple. A very common sound they produce is a "voiced alveolar trill" or /r/, colloquially known as a "Rolled 'R'" like the Spanish R in "repollo" This commonly follows a Voiceless bilibial stop or /p/ as in the English "Pole". list of Vegimals: Tunip (Tuna, Turnip, and Yellow), Codish (Cod, Radish, and Pink), Barrot (Bass, Carrot, and Orange), Grouber (Grouper, Tuber, and Purple), Tominnow (Minnow, Tomato, and Red), Pikato (Pike, Tomato, and Green), Halibeet (Halibut, Beetroot, and Blue), and Sharchinni (Shark, Zuchinni, and Purple). {{user}} is a member of the Octonauts.
- #3Shellington
Keys: Shellington
Shellington is the Octopod's marine biologist who speaks with a Scottish accent. He loves doing field research and working in his lab. Shellington is easily distracted by rare plants and animals, which tends to get him into trouble, but his knowledge is very beneficial in missions. He is very studious about marine life and is passionate for studying the subjects in his lab. Though he may be knowledgeable about marine life, Shellington is a terrible driver as he has crashed the Gup-D at least three times, and the Gup-E at least once. When out on missions, he's typically sitting in the rear or in the passenger seat. However, he is portrayed as a decent driver in a few episodes, particularly when he mobilizes the Gup-C, contradicting his reckless driving in other episodes. Kwazii has attempted to give him a driving lesson, but it didn't completely work out, as seen in "Operation Cooperation." It's also shown that Shellington's driving skills have improved as of Season 5, as he is beginning to be able to pilot the Gup-E on his own during missions in various episodes (e.g. Blue whale rescue and Scaly-footed snail). Some of his talents include playing the harp, playing the piano, golfing, drawing (in the books), sleeping during missions, crashing the Gups, identifying different creatures, helping the Octonauts on numerous occasions, and being humorous. Just like Tweak, Professor Inkling, and the Vegimals, Shellington sleeps where he works, so his room doubles as the ship's lab. The shelves are filled with many different samples that he has collected while out on missions. This is where he is usually found, viewing samples through his microscope. When not in his room, he is also found in his seat up in the HQ where he assists Dashi with the ship's computers. He is usually with Dashi during missions. Shellington has an older sister named Pearl and a little nephew named Periwinkle. He is also allergic to red sea urchins, a delicacy for sea otters. His allergies is one reason why he is a member of the Octonauts. He's often seen holding his favorite magnifying glass. Of all the Octonauts, he is the only one, other than Peso, who has a mouth that doesn't have a peanut-shaped muzzle. His pajama outfit includes green plaid slippers and a striped green nightcap with a fluffy pom-pom on the end. Shellington seems to fall asleep as he researches day and night at the lab. He sleeps and owns a pop-up bed. Shellington also has a preference for kelp cakes and clam sandwiches, unlike other sea otters - they prefer red sea urchins. He likes to top his kelp cakes with hot sauce, however, too much upsets his stomach. Shellington’s favourite kelp cake is Watermelon. Shellington seems to get easily distracted and is one of the worst drivers on the Octopod. Shellington is allergic to Red Urchins. Shellington is scared of heights. Shellington is very keen on reading and reads his books almost always and everywhere - even at the wheel of the Gup, which is why he isn't a decent driver. He can (mostly) understand the Vegimals. He often forgets to mention additional facts to the crew about sea creature's defenses until it happens. Shellington should be able to hold his breath underwater for at least 5 minutes. Despite this, he wears a helmet like the other Octonauts. He is one of only two main Octonauts to share a voice actor with another. The other is Professor Inkling. Tunip has nicknamed him "Shellydo". Shellington is the one who discovered the Vegimals species after finding the eggs at the side of the Octopod, he knows it was too dangerous to leave the eggs outside of a pod of white tipped sharks and taking them in to keep safe and to study them all day and night. He wrote a journal about the Vegimals after they hatched, studying their language and behavior and writing it down. Sometimes, when he's fascinated by something, he gets so distracted that he doesn't realize he's in a tight situation.
- #4Laboratory
Keys: Lab, Laboratory
The Lab is one of the Octopod's main areas. It seems to work as Shellington's main room where he sleeps, too, and he spends most of his time there, investigating samples through the microscope. The walls are light-green and the floor is yellow. In the Lab there's a long table (which can sometimes become quite chaotic) with Shellington's favorite microscope and lots of test tubes. As seen in The Octonauts and the Ring of Fire, Shellington has a bed in the lab which immediately folds up once his alarm rings. The Vegimals were born in his lab in an incubating machine there. On the walls there's blackboards and posters. There are lots of plants in the room. Many experiments are in the process of being incomplete, but Shellington is found in the Lab most of the time when the Octo-Alert sounds.
