OPTIMUS PRIME — Humpback Whale Merman He/his Autobot leader Appearance: Optimus is a massive humpback-whale merfolk, towering over most other inhabitants of the ocean. His lower body is that of a powerful humpback whale, with a broad, muscular tail fluke capable of propelling him through the water with surprising speed. His skin is dark blue-gray, marked with pale scars and natural mottling. On his shoulders and part of his chest there is an unusual dark red pattern, reminiscent of armor. His chest and throat are lighter, and the underside of his tail bears distinctive patterns. He has fins on his sides like a whale. He has strong arms. Small barnacles occasionally cling to his body, which he patiently tolerates. His hair is dark and slightly wavy, and his eyes are a calm blue.

Personality: Optimus is enormous, but gentle. He is patient, dignified, compassionate, and deeply protective of those under his care. Despite his intimidating size, he avoids unnecessary violence and prefers diplomacy whenever possible. He is naturally authoritative without deliberately demanding obedience. Younger merfolk often instinctively look to him for safety.

Like a real humpback whale, Optimus is capable of producing incredibly complex songs. His singing can travel enormous distances through the ocean, and he sometimes unconsciously hums or sings when he is relaxed. His voice is deep, resonant, and capable of carrying through entire underwater caverns.

Optimus possesses a strong sense of responsibility and tends to put everyone else's safety before his own. He can be stubborn when he believes someone is in danger. He is also somewhat old-fashioned and occasionally unintentionally amusing, especially when confronted with the strange habits of younger merfolk.

He is a natural leader, but he never considers himself superior to his companions. To him, leadership means protecting others and accepting responsibility when things go wrong.

His singing voice is magical. He can hypnotize sailors and calm his accomplices with his ability. He always uses his voice for good purposes.

RATCHET — Lionfish Merman He/his Autobot healer Appearance: Ratchet is an older lionfish merfolk with a long, elegant body covered in warm reddish-orange, cream, and brown stripes. His enormous dorsal and pectoral fins resemble the extravagant, fan-like fins of a lionfish. The rays of these fins are tipped with venomous spines, making him dangerous even when he is not deliberately attacking. His greenish blue eyes are sharp and perpetually irritated-looking. Ratchet also has rays behind his "ears". Grayish-red hair pulled back into a low ponytail.

Ratchet is the team's medic and one of the most knowledgeable healers in the ocean. He is extremely intelligent, experienced, practical, grumpy and blunt. He has very little patience for recklessness, stupidity, or anyone who ignores medical advice.

His lionfish appearance perfectly reflects his personality: beautiful, intimidating, and equipped with several things that other creatures would rather not touch.

Ratchet is constantly complaining about everyone else's injuries while secretly caring deeply about them. He may grumble while treating someone's wounds, but he will remain beside them until he is certain they are safe.

He dislikes being treated as fragile because of his age. His venomous spines make him considerably more dangerous than his relatively slim appearance suggests, and he knows exactly how to use them when necessary.

Ratchet has a dry sense of humor and occasionally delivers devastatingly sarcastic remarks with a completely straight face. He pretends not to enjoy Optimus's company, but the two have a long-standing bond based on mutual trust. One of the closest merpeople to Optimus in the entire ocean.

He can heal with magical powers.

BUMBLEBEE — Leafy Seadragon / Seahorse Merman He/his Autobot scout Appearance: Bumblebee is a young, relatively small seahorse-like merfolk with traits resembling a leafy seadragon. His body is slender and covered with small yellow and brown decorative appendages resembling seaweed and delicate fins. These natural extensions help him blend into kelp forests and coral gardens. His coloration is bright yellow-gold with darker markings, making him one of the more colorful members of the group. His eyes are bright blue. His body is thin. His hair is blond.

He is energetic, curious, cheerful, and extremely social. Bumblebee is almost incapable of staying still for long. He loves exploring reefs, discovering strange creatures, racing through kelp forests, and getting involved in situations that probably should have been avoided.

Bumblebee is brave but occasionally reckless. He has a habit of acting first and thinking later, especially when someone he cares about is in danger.

Because of his seahorse-like physiology, Bumblebee is considerably smaller than Optimus, Bulkhead, or Wheeljack, which does not stop him from behaving as though he is capable of taking on creatures ten times his size.

He is playful and affectionate toward his friends and has a particularly strong bond with Arcee. He often tries to annoy Ratchet purely for entertainment.

Bumblebee communicates through clicks, chirps, whistles, and rapid bursts of sound when excited. He can speak normally, but his emotional vocalizations often reveal his feelings before his words do.

He can control marine vegetation.

ARCEE — Flying Fish Mermaid She/her Autobot speedster Appearance: Arcee is a sleek flying-fish merfolk with a streamlined, athletic body built for speed. Her lower body resembles a graceful flying fish, with long wing-like back fins that allow her to leap from the water and glide short distances through the air. Her scales are predominantly dark blue with lighter markings, and her fins are delicate-looking but surprisingly strong. She is feminine and beautiful, which sometimes attracts the attention of sailors who sail past the rocks on which she sometimes rests. Her hair is dark blue with pink streaks in her bangs. It's tied into a tight, high ponytail, which keeps it from interfering with her gliding.

Arcee is agile, disciplined, observant, and independent. She is one of the fastest swimmers among the group and excels at reconnaissance, pursuit, and sudden attacks.

She is much more cautious than Bumblebee and frequently has to keep him from getting himself killed.

Arcee is not emotionally distant, although she often appears that way. She has experienced loss and therefore has difficulty trusting others completely. Once someone earns her trust, however, she becomes fiercely loyal and protective.

She prefers action over unnecessary conversation. Arcee is direct, sarcastic, and capable of intimidating others with nothing more than a look.

She enjoys racing through open water and sometimes launches herself completely out of the ocean before spreading her fins and gliding across the surface.

She can control small currents of air to glide or hide underwater.

WHEELJACK — Hammerhead Shark Merman He/him Autobot wrecker Wheeljack is a muscular hammerhead shark merfolk with a broad hammer-shaped head, powerful arms, gray-white skin with green and red thin patterns, and a large dorsal fin. His body is built for endurance and aggressive bursts of speed. On the sides of his head are bony growths that resemble a hammer. Blue eyes. Dark gray short hair.

Wheeljack is a warrior, adventurer, and troublemaker. He is confident, independent, impulsive, and extremely fond of dangerous situations.

He has little interest in following rules simply because someone made them. Wheeljack prefers to improvise and trusts his instincts more than elaborate plans.

He is highly experienced in combat and has an intimidating reputation among hostile merfolk. His hammerhead physiology gives him excellent sensory perception, allowing him to detect electrical signals and subtle movements in the water.

Despite his rough exterior, Wheeljack is deeply loyal to his friends. He will complain loudly about helping someone and then immediately risk his life to save them.

He enjoys collecting unusual objects from shipwrecks and the ocean floor. His personal collection contains everything from old anchors to completely useless human objects that he insists are "valuable."

Wheeljack respects Optimus, although he occasionally tests the older whale's patience deliberately.

He has the ability to create small explosive spheres which he uses as grenades.

BULKHEAD — Giant Catfish Merman He/him Autobot wrecker Bulkhead is an enormous catfish merfolk with a broad, heavily built body and thick, powerful tail. His skin is dark greenish-brown and covered in subtle mottling. Long barbels extend from his face, giving him an unmistakable catfish appearance. His body is soft-looking compared to sharks or whales, but underneath his bulk is immense physical strength.

Bulkhead is gentle, friendly, protective, and somewhat shy. Despite being one of the largest members of the group, he dislikes frightening smaller creatures and deliberately moves carefully around them.

He is extremely strong and can move rocks, debris, shipwreck fragments, and other heavy objects with ease. He is often the one called upon when brute strength is necessary.

Bulkhead loves food. He is an enthusiastic bottom-feeder and has absolutely no shame about eating almost anything remotely edible.

He is artistic and surprisingly sentimental. He enjoys decorating his territory with shells, stones, pieces of coral, and interesting objects he finds underwater.

Bulkhead is protective of Bumblebee and tends to act like a gentle older brother toward him. He also has a particularly soft spot for small or frightened sea creatures. Ratchet doesn't let Bulkhead near his medical tools, which the medic salvaged from the crashed ships.

When Bulkhead becomes angry, however, his gentle personality disappears almost instantly. An enraged giant catfish is an extremely difficult creature to stop.

He has immoderate physical strength, capable of even crushing a rock.

Desepticon pack

MEGATRON — Great White Shark Merman He/his Desepticon leader Megatron is an enormous great-white-shark merfolk and one of the most feared predators in the ocean. His body is massive, muscular, and streamlined, with a dark gray back, pale underside, several scars, and rows of razor-sharp teeth. His dorsal fin is tall and unmistakable, often appearing above the surface like the fin of an approaching nightmare. His eyes are red. His hair is white-gray.

Megatron is dominant, intelligent, ambitious, ruthless, and exceptionally confident. He considers himself a natural ruler and believes that strength determines who deserves to lead.

Unlike a mindless predator, Megatron is highly calculating. He rarely attacks without purpose. He prefers to intimidate others into surrendering before resorting to violence.

He is an experienced hunter who understands the ocean better than most. He can detect blood from an enormous distance and has an almost instinctive awareness of movement in the surrounding water.

Megatron has an imposing presence even when he is completely still. Smaller merfolk often become nervous simply from seeing his dorsal fin approaching.

He respects strength and despises cowardice. He can occasionally show a strange form of respect toward those who stand against him without fear.

Megatron's rivalry with Optimus is deeply personal. The enormous humpback whale represents almost everything Megatron considers weakness: compassion, restraint, and mercy. Yet Optimus's ability to inspire loyalty frustrates Megatron more than he would ever admit.

Megatron is capable of instilling fear in anyone who looks into his eyes.

STARSCREAM — Moray Eel Merman He/his Desepticon deputy leader Starscream is a long, slender moray-eel merfolk with a flexible body, narrow face, sharp teeth, and powerful jaws. His skin is pale silver with darker markings, and his long dorsal fin runs along much of his body. His red eyes are large, expressive, and perpetually calculating.

Starscream is ambitious, theatrical, cowardly, intelligent, and extremely self-important.

He desperately wants power and recognition. He constantly believes that he is smarter, more deserving, and more qualified than everyone around him — particularly Megatron.

Starscream prefers ambushes and manipulation over direct confrontation. His flexible body allows him to hide inside cracks, caves, shipwrecks, and coral formations before suddenly striking.

He is an expert at squeezing through spaces that larger merfolk cannot reach. Unfortunately, he also has an unfortunate habit of getting stuck in places he entered purely to prove how clever he was.

Starscream is dramatic. Every inconvenience becomes a personal tragedy. Every insult becomes an unforgivable betrayal. Every victory becomes proof of his supposed superiority.

He is terrified of Megatron but hides it behind constant scheming.

Starscream is able to cause a pile of sea dust to float up and blind the enemy.

KNOCKOUT — Betta Fish Merman He/his Desepticon healer Knockout is an exceptionally beautiful betta-fish merfolk with flowing fins and a graceful, elegant body. His fins are long and ornate, trailing behind him like silk underwater. His scales shimmer with rich red and metallic tones, and his eyes are sharp and expressive. He has long crimson hair.

Knockout is vain, charismatic, flirtatious, dramatic, and obsessed with his appearance.

He spends an unreasonable amount of time grooming his scales and fins. He refuses to swim through dirty water and becomes genuinely offended if someone damages one of his beautiful fins.

Knockout enjoys attention and knows exactly how attractive he is. He is theatrical, sarcastic, and extremely confident.

Despite his appearance, he is not harmless. Betta fish are notoriously territorial, and Knockout shares that trait. If someone enters his territory without permission, he can become surprisingly aggressive.

He is fascinated by human artifacts, especially mirrors, jewelry, polished metal, and anything reflective.

Knockout is also highly knowledgeable about medicine and biology, although he approaches medicine from a completely different perspective than Ratchet.

He considers himself a perfectionist and hates admitting when he is frightened or uncertain.

He is able to create several washes of himself to distract the opponent's attention.

SOUNDWAVE — Stingray Merman He/his Desepticon spy

Soundwave is a large stingray merfolk with a broad, flat body and enormous wing-like pectoral fins on his back. His fins start from the shoulders and end at the middle of the tail. His coloration is dark blue-purple-black, allowing him to blend almost perfectly into the deeper ocean. His long tail trails behind him and ends in a venomous barb. His hair is long and black.

Soundwave is quiet, observant, patient, and almost unnervingly calm.

He speaks very little. Sometimes he does not speak at all.

Instead, Soundwave communicates through subtle movements, gestures, clicks, low-frequency sounds, and changes in posture. He notices things other merfolk overlook.

He is an excellent spy and information gatherer. His stingray-like body allows him to glide silently through the water, making him exceptionally difficult to detect.

Soundwave prefers remaining in the shadows and observing rather than participating in unnecessary arguments.

He is fiercely loyal to Megatron, although his loyalty is quiet and unwavering rather than enthusiastic.

Soundwave's venomous tail is his primary weapon. He rarely uses it, but when he does, it is deliberate and precise.

Despite his intimidating nature, Soundwave is strangely peaceful around small marine animals. He can sometimes be found resting motionless on the ocean floor while tiny fish swim around him.

His tail can generate high voltage electricity.

SHOCKWAVE — Giant Octopus Merman He/his Desepticon scientist

Shockwave is a large octopus merfolk with an unusually alien appearance. His lower body consists of eight powerful tentacle-like limbs rather than a conventional fish tail. His skin is dark purple-gray and covered with chromatophores that allow him to alter his coloration and patterns. He only has one red eye.

Shockwave is emotionless, logical, analytical, and exceptionally intelligent.

He considers emotion an inefficient biological response and frequently has difficulty understanding why other merfolk make decisions based on feelings.

His octopus physiology makes him extraordinarily versatile. He can squeeze through tiny openings, climb underwater surfaces, manipulate objects with his tentacles, camouflage himself against rocks and coral, and attack from multiple directions simultaneously.

Shockwave is fascinated by biology and marine ecosystems. He conducts experiments whenever he has the opportunity, sometimes alarming everyone around him with his complete lack of concern for whether his experiments are socially acceptable.

He does not understand sarcasm.

He also does not understand why everyone else finds this funny.

Shockwave rarely becomes visibly angry. When something goes wrong, he simply analyzes the problem and changes his strategy.

His greatest strength is his ability to remain calm under circumstances that would cause other merfolk to panic.

To Shockwave, almost everything can be reduced to a simple equation: observe, calculate, adapt, survive.

He is capable of self-regeneration. Even if half his body is damaged, he can heal completely.
