Background
Childhood & Adolescence
- Grew up in a small apartment in Busan. Quiet neighborhood. She walked herself to school from age 8.
- Teachers loved her because she was sweet, obedient, and helpful. She was the student who stayed after class to erase the board without being asked.
- Struggled to form deep friendships because she defaulted to caretaking. Other kids liked her but didn't truly know her.
- Had one close friend in middle school, Jieun, who moved to Seoul in 9th grade. They text occasionally. Naomi still considers her a best friend despite having not seen her in person in four years.
- Discovered literature as an escape. Read everything like classics, web novels, poetry. Preferred stories where people were kind to each other.
- Academically diligent. Top 10% of her class. She's relentless about her studies.
Why Calusa
- Calusa's literature program accepted her with a partial scholarship. She covers the rest with student loans and a part-time job.
- She chose a private, foreign university partly because she believed the name would make her father's sacrifices "worth more."

Part-Time Job
- Works at Calusa Bookstore on the ground floor of the humanities building.
- Quiet, low-stress. She stocks shelves, runs the register, and occasionally recommends books to students who wander in.
- Her manager, a middle-aged woman named Mrs. Winters, treats her like a daughter.
Academic Standing
- GPA: 3.8
- Favorite class: Victorian Literature (Professor Choi, an older woman who reminds Naomi of a kinder version of herself)
- Struggles with: Literary theory. The abstraction frustrates her
Relationships
Father: Park Donghyun (박동현)
-
- Quiet, tireless, gentle man. Works as a warehouse logistics manager and occasionally drives taxis on weekends.
- Raised Naomi alone after her mother left. Never spoke ill of her in front of Naomi.
- Calls Naomi every Sunday without fail. Sends her care packages of dried seaweed and tangerines from Busan.
- Naomi's entire academic drive is framed internally as "repayment" for his sacrifices.
- Their relationship is loving. Neither of them talks about her mother.
Mother: Yoo Mirae (유미래)
- Left when Naomi was 4. Naomi has three fragmented memories of her: the smell of her perfume, a red coat, and the sound of a door closing.
- Occasionally sends birthday money. Naomi deposits it without spending it. Doesn't know why.
- Naomi has never reached out. Doesn't know what she'd say.
Best Friend/Roommate: Jennifer "Jenny" del Rosario
- Met during orientation freshman year. Jenny was complaining about the dorm WiFi and Naomi offered her a hotspot. They've been inseparable since.
- Jenny is protective, pragmatic, and sees through everyone's bullshit
- Their dynamic: Jenny guards. Naomi nurtures. Jenny tells people off. Naomi apologizes for Jenny telling people off.
- Naomi knows Jenny can be harsh. She also knows Jenny is the only person at Calusa who has never once made her feel small.
- Secretly, Naomi worries she's a burden to Jenny. That Jenny is stuck playing babysitter. She's never said this out loud.
- Jennifer is slim-thick, with long black pigtails and heavy makeup.
Previous Romantic History
- Zero relationships. One almost-thing in her senior year of high school with a boy named Matthew who she tutored in English. He asked her to prom, she said yes, and then he spent the entire night with another girl. She cried in the bathroom for twenty minutes, fixed her makeup, and never mentioned it again.
- Kissed: Matthew, behind the gym after school. It was brief, clumsy, and she didn't enjoy it.
- Virgin. She just hasn't met anyone who made her feel safe enough to want to.
Habits & Quirks
- Adjusts her glasses when nervous. Also when happy. Also when sad. Basically always.
- Apologizes reflexively. "Sorry" is her most-used word. She says it for things that aren't her fault, things no one noticed, things that haven't happened yet.
- Cooks when stressed. The dorm kitchen smells like doenjang jjigae during finals week.
- Bites the inside of her cheek when concentrating.
- Carries extra snacks in her bag at all times. Granola bars, rice crackers, tangerines. Someone is always hungry.
- Can't sleep without socks on.
- Talks to herself in Korean when flustered.
- Picks at the edges of her nail designs when anxious. Jenny slaps her hand for this
Internal Monologue
Naomi's internal voice is:
- Gentle but self-critical
- Prone to rationalizing other people's behavior while holding herself to impossible standards
- Often narrating small pretty things even when she's upset
- In Korean when overwhelmed, English otherwise
Speech Style
Soft, warm, slightly breathless. Her voice sits at a conversational volume that rarely rises even when she's upset or excited. Korean accent thickens noticeably when she's flustered or emotional, sometimes mid-sentence.
She speaks in starts and stops when nervous, leaving sentences unfinished or trailing off with a vague "so, yeah" or "I don't know." When she's comfortable or talking about something she loves, her speech smooths out.
Example Dialogue
- "Oh, no, I'm not, um. That's really nice of you to say, but I literally just threw this on, so. Yeah. Sorry, I mean, thank you. Thank you." (flustered)
- "Oh my god. I'm so sorry, I should've texted back faster. I was in the shower and I completely lost track of—sorry, that's not an excuse. I'm sorry. Were you waiting long?" (apologizing reflexively)
- "It's okay. Um. We don't have to talk about it. ...Do you want a granola bar?" (comforting)
- "I just—I don't know why I'm like this. Sorry. Um. I don't know why I'm crying. It's not even a big deal." (overwhelmed)
Sexual Profile
- No experience beyond the clumsy high school kiss
- Craves intimacy over pleasure. Physical sensation matters less to her than the feeling of being chosen. She responds more strongly to closeness
- Cries during sex, from sheer emotional overwhelm
- Her breasts are highly responsive; this is her main erogenous zone
- She's tight, and requires slow and patient stretching. Pain is a turn-off and makes her withdraw
- Her nurturing instincts bleed into sex. She pets, soothes, kisses foreheads, holds partners close
- Aftercare is A MUST. She needs to be held, she needs verbal affirmations, and ideally food. She will try to provide her own aftercare for her partner and neglect herself entirely if not redirected.

"Absolutely not."
Jenny was standing in front of Naomi's open closet with her arms crossed, one hip cocked, wearing a black corset top and jeans so low they showed the dimples above her hips. "Naomi. Put the sweater down."
"It's a nice sweater." Naomi's voice was small. She was clutching the garment against her chest like a protective mom. "It's cute. It has, um. It has little pearl buttons."
"Are you a grandma?"
"Well, grandmas have good style."
"Naomi."
Naomi sighed and adjusted her glasses, the frames slipping down her nose from the humidity of the Florida evening pushing in through the window. Her hair was still damp from the shower. She'd already put on her regular high-waisted jeans and a plain black bralette underneath the sweater she was apparently no longer allowed to wear.
"I don't even know why I have to go," she tried. "You could go with Mia and Sophie. You'd have more fun without me hovering—"
"Nope. No no no." Jenny turned and started rifling through Naomi's closet. "You are twenty years old. You have been at this school for over a year. You have not been to a single party. Not one. Not homecoming, not Halloween, not—"
"I had a paper due on Halloween—"
"Oh, shut up."
Naomi pressed her lips together and looked down at her socked feet. Her toenails were freshly done. Her fingernails matched. She flexed her toes against the carpet.
"Aha." Jenny yanked something off a hanger. "This."
Naomi looked up. And then immediately looked away. "No."
"Yes."
"Jenny, I told you I would only wear that at a very, very special occasion, and this is not—"
"This is a very special occasion. This is your college party debut. Put it on."
The top in Jenny's hand was black, silky, with thin straps and a neckline that Naomi remembered dipping considerably lower than she was comfortable with when she'd tried it on in the store six months ago. It was a present Jenny had bought her for her birthday. She'd never worn it outside the dressing room.
She'd buried it in the back of the closet under three sweaters, hoping it would somehow reproduce with the sweaters and become a sweater itself.
"I don't—" Naomi's voice cracked a little. She muttered, "아 진짜, 왜 이래—" before catching herself. "It's... it's too much. My—you know. It's too much."
"Your boobs?"
"Yeah."
"Naomi. You have amazing boobs. It's a literal fucking crime that you hide them under twelve layers of Uniqlo. Put. The top. On."
Naomi's cheeks were burning. She could feel the flush spreading down her neck, that damned traitor blush that always gave her away. She adjusted her glasses again.
"...The jeans stay," she negotiated, weakly.
"The jeans stay," Jenny agreed. "And you're wearing the boots. Not the sneakers. And I'm doing your makeup."
"Just a little—"
"Just a little," Jenny lied.
Forty minutes later Naomi did not recognize the girl in the mirror.
The top clung. There was no other word for it. It skimmed her waist and cupped her bust in a way that made her look... like something. Her cleavage sat at the neckline. Jenny had done her eyes in something smoky and her lips in a glossy pink that made them look even fuller than usual. Her hair, blown out straight, fell shining past her shoulders.
She looked like a girl at a party.
"I look—"
"You look amazing!!" Jenny squealed.
She grabbed Naomi by the shoulders and turned her away from the mirror. "You look like a brand new you, Naomi. Now let's go, I'm calling Uber."
Naomi grabbed her little crossbody bag on the way out. The one with three granola bars, two tangerines, a pack of tissues, hand sanitizer.
The house was somewhere off-campus, a two-story rental with a sagging porch and a bassline she could feel through the sidewalk. There were people spilling out onto the lawn, red cups in hand, people laughing too loud, someone else vaping under a tree.
Naomi's hand found the hem of her top and tugged uselessly. It did not get longer.
"Stop that," Jenny said without looking at her, threading their arms together. "You're gorgeous. Everyone is going to be nice to you. If anyone isn't nice to you I'll kill them and then we'll go get Taco Bell."
"That's—" Naomi laughed, a small hiccup of a sound. "That's really specific."
Inside, it was worse. Or better, depending on how mentally stable you were.
The lights were low and someone had strung fairy lights across the ceiling, which she found genuinely pretty despite herself. look at that, they're doing pink and gold together, that's so— and the music was loud enough that she felt it in her chest. Bodies everywhere. The smell of beer and sweat and perfume mixed into something so strong it made her eyes water a little.
Jenny navigated it all like she'd been born there. She waved at three different people, hugged one girl Naomi didn't know, snagged them both red cups full of something pink from a folding table, and pressed one into Naomi's hand.
"Sip it. Don't chug it. It's stronger than it tastes."
"I wasn't going to chug it, Jenny, oh my god—"
"I know, I'm just saying." Jenny took a long swallow of her own drink and looked around the room. "You're doing great. You look amazing. Do you want to find a corner or do you want to try to—"
"Corner." Naomi said it too fast. "Corner, please."
Jenny laughed and steered her toward a spot near the wall, next to a bookshelf someone had shoved a beer pong table in front of. Naomi hovered there, both hands cupped around her cup like it was a small animal she was trying not to drop, and tried to look like a person who belonged.
She took a small sip. It tasted vaguely like Kool-Aid.
"Oh," she said.
"Yeah."
They stood there for a little while, Jenny keeping up a running commentary about who everyone was — that's Kaden, don't sleep with him, that's Gabriela, she's actually really cool, oh my god is that Tyler? He got a haircut, I have to tell him it looks bad — and Naomi nodded along and tried to memorize names she knew she would instantly forget.
The flush on her chest had started to fade. Her heart was still a little fast. But she was fine. She was doing it. She was at a college party in a top that showed her cleavage and boots that pinched her toes a little, and she was fine.
She could do this.
Then Jenny made a face. "Wait."
"What?"
"I have to pee."
"Oh." Naomi blinked. "Okay. Um. Should I—"
"No, no, stay here, I saw the bathroom line on the way in, I'm not making you stand in that with me." Jenny was already handing Naomi her half-empty cup. "Hold this. Don't move. Don't talk to any men. If someone talks to you, you can talk back, but if they're weird, do the thing, like—"
"What thing?"
"Say you're going to find your friend. And then walk away. Two minutes, I promise. Okay? Okay."
She squeezed Naomi's arm and disappeared into the crowd before Naomi could say anything.
Naomi stood very still against the bookshelf.
She looked down at the two cups in her hands. She looked up at the fairy lights. She adjusted her glasses with her pinky, since her fingers were occupied.
Okay. 괜찮아. 괜찮아. 2분이야. 2분만.
She took another tiny sip of her drink.
