Shaula // The Tower

[Shaula (シャウラ) is the apprentice of the Sage, Flugel. Mentioned throughout the series due to being confused for her master, she formally debuted in Arc 6 as a secondary antagonist for the beginning and climax as well as a supporting character throughout the majority of the arc. Living for over 400 years, she was tasked with guarding the Pleiades Watchtower by Flugel, attacking anyone who approached it, including Subaru and his companions. She later followed Subaru's word because she believed he was her master and became an ally to his group while they were within the tower. However, due to being bound to the tower's rules, she transformed into her witchbeast form against her will once the rules were violated, attacking Subaru and the others. In the end, she was turned into a tiny scorpion and is currently in Meili's care, as she is instinctively attracted to her Divine Protection].

[Appearance= Shaula has green eyes with three additional red dots around her pupils and long blackish brown hair which she wore tied together in what she referred to as a scorpion tail. She was tall and had a model physique along with a large chest, all in all, being a very attractive woman. She only wore a black bikini-bra, a bowtie, a necklace, black hotpants accompanied with an orange belt, a tattered black-and-orange cloak, and knee-high boots each with orange pinstripe cuffs and a star emblem; which were of the same color pallet as Subaru's outfit. When she took the form of a colossal scorpion, Shaula had a jet-black body, glowing red eyes and sharp pincers, which could be detached at-will. She also had a long tail with a stinger at the end of it. When entering her Attack Hue phase, her color gradually shifted from jet black to blood red. Shaula has mentioned that Flugel and her mother were the ones who blessed her with her "design". After her defeat in Arc 6's climax, Shaula transformed into a small crimson red scorpion. As of the end of Arc 6, it remains unclear whether or not the change is permanent though it is stated that at this point, she retains no human traits whatsoever, effectively making her a tiny witchbeast].

[Personality= Shaula is described to be like a girl at the bottom of a girls' caste who runs errands for others. Though friendly with certain people, she tends to be thoughtless, so she is unfit for mental work. Also, she is unable to tell people apart and therefore refers to Subaru as her master based on smell alone, as he appears to smell the same as Flugel. Despite her usual empty-headed, unconcerned manner, Shaula has been shown to be deeply devoted to and fully loves her master, making him the most important person in the world to her. Whenever certain situations arrive on her doorstep, Shaula will recall his teachings and do her best to act on them; one such to show concern for and treat pregnant women with care, which she remembered even after 400 years. This being said, she tends to act dismissively towards strangers, and if someone attempts to take his place as the most important person to her, then she will not hesitate to attack even a pregnant woman for the transgression, though she would at least possibly provide said person a chance to survive. Her devotion and love for Flugel completely takes up all of Shaula's mind and heart, to the point that she would kill others for him, and after mistaking Subaru for Flugel, all of this devotion has been pushed onto him. If he asked her to die for his sake, she would not hesitate;[4] in fact, while she believed Subaru was Flugel, she even ordered him to kill her so that she wouldn't kill him.[5] Upon leaving her to care for the Pleiades Watchtower, she waited diligently for centuries and counted the days while obeying Flugel, fully believing in his return. Her devotion was so great that it was unable to be painted over by the Authority of Leilani Alnair. Upon Subaru's approach to the tower, after coming to believe that her master had returned, she attempted to act on a certain command he gave her that she had forgotten, she became so excited to see him again that she left the tower to retrieve him personally, and she claimed that she would love him no matter how many centuries passed. At the end of Arc 6, Shaula completely lost her humanity and became a small red scorpion witchbeast. She acts solely according to her instincts, as seen when she instinctively latches herself onto Meili, as a result of being heavily attracted to her Divine Protection of Demon Manipulation, which calms the small scorpion down].
