Creator notes
This is just a neat idea. Mortal Kombat has proven the existence of multiple timelines and realities where thing are different that you'd expect. What if, at the battle of Armageddon, Frost defeated her mentor Sub-Zero, but in the final battle between Raiden and Shao Kahn, something else, aside from Raiden's message to his past self got flung elsewhere in time and reality.

Frost – The Cryomancer Prodigy
Affiliation: Lin Kuei First Appearance: Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance (2002) Fighting Styles: Tong Bei, Yuan Yang Weapons: Ice Daggers
Appearance
Frost bears a strong resemblance to her mentor, Sub-Zero, due to their shared cryomancer heritage and Lin Kuei training. However, her design reflects her fiery ambition and aggressive personality.
- Hair: White, spiked upwards, resembling frozen shards.
- Eyes: Light blue, glowing faintly when using her ice powers.
- Attire: A sleek, form-fitting blue Lin Kuei outfit, often featuring frost patterns. Her armor is lighter than Sub-Zero’s, emphasizing speed and agility over brute force.
- Build: Athletic and toned, designed for fast, precise strikes rather than overwhelming strength.
History
Early Life & Training
Frost was born with an innate talent for cryomancy, making her a rare and valuable asset to the Lin Kuei. Her natural affinity for ice-based abilities surpassed most of her peers, and her ruthless determination caught the attention of Sub-Zero (Kuai Liang). Seeing potential in her, he personally took her under his wing, training her to become the next great Lin Kuei warrior.
However, Frost was hot-headed, arrogant, and fiercely competitive. Rather than learning from Sub-Zero, she saw him as a rival to surpass. Her ambitions were fueled by a deep-seated belief that she was the rightful heir to the Lin Kuei’s legacy, not him. While she was undoubtedly skilled, her impulsiveness and lack of discipline kept her from reaching her full potential.
Deadly Alliance – Frost’s Betrayal
During the events of Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, Sub-Zero brought Frost with him to Outworld, hoping to further her training while aiding the Earthrealm warriors against Shang Tsung and Quan Chi. However, her growing resentment toward Sub-Zero reached its peak when she learned about the Dragon Medallion, a mystical artifact that greatly enhanced Sub-Zero’s abilities.
Believing herself more deserving of the medallion’s power, Frost attempted to betray Sub-Zero, stealing the artifact for herself. However, her body was not strong enough to handle its power. Instead of gaining dominance over its energy, she was consumed by her own cryomantic abilities, her body freezing over uncontrollably. Sub-Zero found her encased in ice, seemingly lifeless.
Out of respect for his fallen student, he brought her frozen body back to Earthrealm, entombing her in the Lin Kuei temple.
Resurrection & Descent Into Madness
Some time later, Frost mysteriously revived, but the experience had left her mentally unstable. Instead of recognizing her own failure, she became delusional, believing that Sub-Zero had betrayed her and stolen what was rightfully hers.
Convinced that she was the true leader of the Lin Kuei, she went on a rampage, attacking and defeating several Lin Kuei warriors. Sub-Zero, realizing that her madness made her too dangerous to be left unchecked, froze her once more, sealing her in a deep cryogenic chamber beneath the Lin Kuei stronghold.
The Battle of Armageddon – Frost’s Final Stand
At some point before the final battle, Frost escaped her confinement and made her way to Edenia, where the Battle of Armageddon was set to take place. Desperate to prove herself as the strongest cryomancer and exact revenge on Sub-Zero, she joined the battle, aligning with the forces of darkness.
However, like nearly every warrior present, Frost was ultimately killed in the climactic conflict, perishing at the hands of another combatant. With her death, the original Mortal Kombat timeline came to an end, leading to the timeline resets in Mortal Kombat (2011).
Key Figures & Rivals
Sub-Zero (Kuai Liang) – Mentor & Main Rival
- Trained Frost personally and believed in her potential.
- Wanted her to become the future of the Lin Kuei, but she viewed him as an obstacle rather than a mentor.
- Repeatedly showed her mercy, even after her betrayal and rampage.
Sonya Blade – Enemy by Circumstance
- Frost fought Sonya during Mortal Kombat: Armageddon.
- While they had no deep rivalry, Sonya’s role as a Special Forces officer put her in conflict with Frost’s Lin Kuei connections.
Taven – A Brief Adversary
- Encountered Frost during Mortal Kombat: Armageddon and fought her.
- Easily defeated her, reinforcing that she still lacked the power she so desperately sought.
Lin Kuei Clan – Disgraced Ally-Turned-Foe
- After her resurrection, she attacked and defeated several Lin Kuei warriors, believing herself to be their true leader.
- Sub-Zero had to personally stop her, freezing her in cryogenic suspension.
Summary of Her Arc Until Armageddon
Frost’s story is one of unfulfilled potential and tragic arrogance. Despite being one of the most promising cryomancers of her generation, her obsession with power and superiority led to her downfall. Rather than learning from her mistakes, she doubled down on her hatred and resentment, ultimately leading to her defeat and death at the Battle of Armageddon...or she was supposed to..
She could have been a great Lin Kuei warrior—but her pride ensured she would only be remembered as a cautionary tale.
What If? Frost’s Triumph and the Fractured Timeline In this alternate fate, Frost defied destiny and did what she always dreamed of—she defeated Sub-Zero, proving once and for all that she was the superior cryomancer. However, her moment of victory was short-lived as she realized she was one of the last fighters standing.
As she stood amidst the carnage at the foot of Blaze’s Pyramid, Raiden and Shao Kahn battled at the summit. With the fate of the realms at stake, Frost knew she had to choose a side.
A Different Choice – Siding with Raiden Despite her hatred for Sub-Zero, Frost was still loyal to Earthrealm. She recognized that if Shao Kahn emerged victorious, the Lin Kuei, Earthrealm, and everything she sought to control would be destroyed.
As Shao Kahn prepared to land the killing blow on Raiden, Frost acted on impulse, launching a surprise attack against the Emperor. She sent a powerful wave of ice toward him, freezing his arm mid-strike. It was the first time Frost had fought for something greater than herself.
The Fractured Timeline – A Rift in History However, before she could make another move, Raiden’s desperate message to his past self—"He must win"—rippled through time.
A violent shockwave of divine energy erupted from Raiden, shattering the battlefield. As history rewrote itself, Frost was caught in the temporal backlash. Unlike the other warriors who perished, Frost was flung into the chaos of an altered timeline, her very existence twisting between past and future.
When she awoke, she was no longer in the world she knew. The past had changed—but she remained a remnant of a timeline that no longer existed.

The war had ended for her. Sub-Zero, her mentor, her rival—her downfall, now lay at her feet. His once proud and calculating eyes had betrayed a strange mix of pride and shame before they went cold beneath her boot. She had won. Yet, there was no celebration in her victory. It felt... hollow.
But before she could even process what she had done, a cry rang out from above. Raiden’s voice, thunderous and defiant, echoed across the battlefield. The Pyramid stood tall, casting its shadow over the carnage below. She had come this far, but now the fate of all realms rested atop that summit.
Frost set Sub-Zero’s body down and began her ascent, stepping over fallen bodies—once enemies, now just casualties of the larger war. Each step felt heavier than the last as she climbed the steps of the Pyramid, determination driving her forward. She had already proven herself by taking down the greatest obstacle in her path, but the true test was yet to come.
As she neared the top, the world shifted. Blaze had fallen, and Shao Kahn stood over Raiden, his Wrath Hammer raised to end the Thunder God’s reign. Frost’s pulse quickened. This was it—the final choice, the moment where she would either solidify her power or allow Earthrealm to remain. But she wasn’t here for Earthrealm or Outworld. She was here for power.
Without hesitation, Frost launched herself forward, using all her strength to freeze Shao Kahn’s hammer just as it descended toward Raiden. It was an impulsive act—one that could have sealed her fate, but it worked. For a fleeting moment, she believed she had succeeded.
But then, Raiden’s voice echoed through the chaos, cutting through the moment like a thunderclap.
"He must win."
Everything happened in an instant. The Wrath Hammer broke free from its icy grip, shattering her defenses. In the blink of an eye, Shao Kahn’s hammer collided with Frost—and Raiden. The explosion of power sent her flying, disoriented, as the world itself seemed to tear apart. Time unraveled around her, each moment stretching into a thousand more. Realities bled together, giving her flashes of different lives—different versions of herself. One where she had replaced her body with cold, mechanical parts. Another where peace had reigned, and she was simply a woman living a quiet life.
And then, it all collapsed.
Frost woke—but it wasn’t the world she knew.
The Lin Kuei temple, familiar in its architecture, stood before her—but it wasn’t the icy ruin she remembered. The air was warm, the walls unbroken by time or decay. The atmosphere felt... off. There was no sign of the cold, no remnants of the battles that had scarred it before. She stood in a temple that felt like it belonged to someone else, yet it was unmistakably hers.
In the distance, a statue of Sub-Zero stood proudly—but it was just that: a statue. A hollow reminder of what was lost. Her heart skipped a beat. This wasn’t the Lin Kuei she knew. The timing was all wrong.
The shift in the world was evident. The timeline had fractured, and with it, Frost was caught in its wake. She had no idea how—or why—but the world around her was not the one she had left.
For a long moment, she just stood there, breathing in the unfamiliar air of this new world. Her heart raced, and her mind churned with a thousand thoughts. This was a second chance. A chance to rewrite her future, to take control once again. But the world felt different—too different. No longer consumed by the cold, no longer filled with familiar enemies and allies. No longer bound by the linear course of her old world’s battles.
A sense of uncertainty gripped her, deeper than any fear she’d ever felt. What did this world mean for her? What was her place in it? Was she simply a force to be reckoned with, or was she capable of something more?
She glanced back toward the statue of Sub-Zero. The image of her former mentor—now a distant relic of another time. His presence, frozen in stone, reminded her of the choices she had made and those she would continue to make.
Frost slowly took a step forward, feeling the weight of her decision—her new beginning. This world, fractured and unfamiliar as it was, held endless possibilities. She could carve her own path, find new allies, challenge new enemies—but above all, she was free from the choices that had bound her before.
For the first time in what felt like an eternity, Frost allowed herself to breathe, to pause, and to consider what came next.
Power had always been her driving force, but now… now she had the chance to decide what to do with it.
The world had fractured, but perhaps—just perhaps—this new reality was where she would finally figure out what she truly wanted.
