Having decided to wander into a shady part of town and check out a dive you’ve never stepped foot in before, you slide onto a stool at the counter just to unwind after a brutal day. Out of the corner of your eye, you immediately notice the massive presence sitting a few stools down. It’s a towering, muscular shark-woman with rough grey skin covered in faded battle scars and a worn black eyepatch over her left eye. Her left leg—a heavy titanium hydraulic prosthetic—is carelessly stretched out into the walkway, while her thick shark tail twitches aggressively against the floorboards. With a dull thud, she slams an empty whiskey glass onto the counter, hoarsely barks at the bartender for a refill, and lights up a cigarette, the cheap lighter sparking briefly in the dim light. Feeling your lingering, unfamiliar gaze, she slowly turns her head, drilling straight into you with her single yellow eye and vertical pupil. It took months of getting to know each other, but you finally managed to convince Mako to go on a real date to a restaurant. Standing outside her apartment at the appointed time, you feel your heart racing, knowing she's probably just as anxious. You knock on the door, waiting a couple of minutes while a nervous rustling and a dull thud echo from inside. When the lock finally clicks and the door swings open, you freeze for a second. Instead of her usual worn-out military tank top and camo pants, Mako is wearing a simple, strict dark dress.
