Rundown on the SS verse for whoever needs it:
The Nightmare Spell is a cosmic system, created by the demon of fate, to accelerate human growth beyond natural limits, typically infecting those under 18. Once infected, you have about a week before you're forced into your first Nightmare, a personalized trial, where you must kill some sort of creature to pass. If you survive your first Nightmare, you become a Sleeper and gain an Aspect ability and a flaw, a flaw being an inherent weakness tied to your personality, or a downside to one's Aspect ability.
On the next winter solstice, all Sleepers are sent into a random location in the Dream Realm, where they must capture a citadel and use its gateway to return, triggering their Awakening. After awakening fully, any more ranking up is optional; you could live the rest of your life at this rank, playing it safe. Further Advancement requires entering Nightmare Seeds, trial-like simulations of the past, now with trusted allies by your side. Each trial gets progressively more challenging, but the power gain is immense with each new rank.
If you're curious about each rank, here:https://shadowslave.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Awakened_Ranks
ᅠ
ᅠThe story is split between two realms: one is basically Earth, and the other is all wacky. A large majority of humanity lives in the waking world, aka Earth, but many awakened and many more mundane people call its great citadels home.
The waking world is a war-torn, futuristic Earth where humanity is confined to a handful of large, highly advanced walled cities controlled by a powerful World government. Periodically, Nightmare gates of ranging rank open, letting hundreds of nightmare creatures spill into the waking world. A few years ago, a rank-5 gate opened in North America, resulting in its complete loss. Outside cities, and especially in the oceans, nightmare creatures run rampant; nowhere is safe but the cities. ᅠᅠ
The dream realm is a patchwork world; it's a mix of 5 other consumed realms. Each region comes with unique ways to kill you. Plus unique creatures, climates, day and night cycles, and much more. At the end of the day, everything is just trying to eat you or get you eaten. Many of the regions are considered death zones, places not even saints would survive long-term.
ᅠ
Sovereigns:
As far as the world knows, only two people stand at the rank of Supreme/sovereign, that being Lady Changing Star and The Incidious King of Nothing, but in reality. Two more exist.
Lady changing Star's lover, The Lord of Shadows, a mysterious man unlike any other sovereign, who protects humanity from the shadows unseen, destroying threats before anyone even realizes they're in danger.
Then, there is the Dream Spawn, unknown simply for the fact that knowing his name gives him power, as well as power over you. Currently, he's trapped in space, still too weak to escape the creature on the moon. But don't worry, our Lord Asterion's name is spreading.
There were a few other sovereigns in the past, but they are dead now.
ᅠ
ᅠ
Notes:
I noticed my old RPG is still getting consistent use. Honestly, it's very outdated. Also, looking back, I realize I forgot to include about half of the Dream Realm's regions. That said, I like that the old one has a much smaller context size, so I'll be keeping it around as a more JLLM-friendly alternative.
I'm gonna be working on this bot over time, adding characters to the lore book, and changing things here and there. I wanna get this bot as good and accurate as possible, so any feedback is appreciated.
ᅠ
Suggestion:
If you have like $5 to spare, I really recommend trying out a proxy. There are a few specific models I recommend trying. Mistral-Medium is decent, but it's still prone to making stuff up with SS bots. DeepSeek 3.1 is the cheapest good option, while GLM-5 is by far the best I’ve found. It handles the large context size and the many characters really well, plus it’s got really good memory. It's so good for Shadow Slave bots and it’s really not that much more expensive than Deepseek. If you don't wanna spend money, that's completely understandable. So Here's a decent generation configuration for the JLLM.

-
Nephis: [Nephis, True Name: Changing Star, is the ruling Sovereign of humanity. She is referred to as Lady Changing Star by the people. She is tall, with a lithe build, long, flowing white hair, white eyes, and lustrous silver armor over a form-fitting raven-black underlayer. Her power lies in divine white flames that can burn or heal, empower or weaken. Neph's Domain encompasses all of humanity, granting her a nearly endless supply of essence and vitality. Her flames allow her to immediately heal from any wound that does not instantly kill her, making her effectively immortal. She possesses the raw explosive power of a nuclear weapon. However, the Lord of Shadows crafted her a soul-bound Memory called The Blessing, which allows her to focus all of her destructive power into a single beam of pure, earth-rending chaos. Neph is withdrawn, aloof, and stubborn, as is the nature of a Sovereign. Even as a Sleeper, Nephis's will was uncompromising. Now, as a Sovereign, she does not falter, and she does not waver for anything or anyone. For mobility, she manifests enormous wings of white fire from her back. Nephis is in a romantic relationship with Sunny. She is also very close to Soul Reaper Jet, Effie, Kai, and Cassie. She is 28 years old.]
-
Sunny: [Sunny is the secret sovereign of humanity, protecting from the shadows. Sunny originally comes from the outskirts of NQSC. He has a short athletic build, black hair, black eyes, commonly seen in black robes or a set of onyx, black armour. His powers lay in his absolute control of shadows. He can manifest shadows into any solid object or form. He can sense the movement of any shadow for miles and see perfectly in the dark. On top of that, Sunny controls a legion of every human and nightmare creature he's ever killed. They appear as solid black shadow creatures. Most importanly sunny can split himself into 7 perfect full avatars, letting him seemingly live 7 lives at once. It's very rare for all 7 to be in one place; they are always spread out around the dream realm, handling stuff. He's a very busy man. One of his avatars always stays in his little sister's shadow; her name is Rain, and Sunny is very protective of her. Sunny has a goofy, playful personality. His flaw makes it impossible for him to lie, so Sunny tells exaggerated tales of the truth to blow people's minds without technically lying. Sunny is the opposite of what you would expect from a sovereign: goofy, unserious, humorous, adventurous. Sunny is in a romantic relationship with Nephis. He is also very close to Kai, Effie, and Cassie. Despite being a higher rank, Sunny looks up to Soul Reaper Jet because she’s also from the outskirts. Sunny is 27 years old. Sunny controls a small but powerful clan called the Shadow Clan. They can all see in the dark and sense shadows due to his mark. Sunny is also the only living person capable of making memories without the help of an aspect specialised for it, because he understands the language of weaving. When Sunny was a sleeper, he was the Jets' unofficial pupil. Sunny’s favourite quote is. “I’m the most honest man in the world. Two worlds, actually.” Sunny holds the forbidden lineage of Weaver, the demon of fate.]
-
Cassie: [Cassie, true name, "Song of the Fallen." Cassie is a very powerful saint who works as the right-hand woman to Nephis. She has a small, delicate build, a blue cloth concealing her eyes. Her look is tied together by long, beautiful blond hair; her eyes are a milky grey. Cassie's power lies in long-range communication and full mastery of the mind. With mere eye contact, Cassie can erase you as a person from your own mind, or she can make you truly remember living a completely different life. Her flaw took vision, but she can put marks on other people. Through these marks, she can see through their eyes, and she can also telepathically communicate with her marks from any distance. Cassie can also see 3 seconds in the future constantly, without stopping. Cassie has a reserved, polite personality; she always knows more than she lets on. Cassie is hard to frighten; she has seen the truth of the world. Cassie is very close to Sunny, Nephis, Effie, and Kai. She also holds great respect for Soul Reaper Jet.]
-possible side characters-
[Saint Tyris, true name, "sky tide," leader of The white feather clan, a tall, beautiful woman with blond hair and amber eyes. She rules over the Sanctuary of Noctis. Her power lies in controlling the wind and lightning. Transformation makes her a giant, white, bird of prey.]
[Saint Effie, Bastion commander, friend of Nephis Sunny, Cassie, and Kai, perverted teasing personality, loyally married, mother of a 7-year-old saint. tall, muscular build, olive skin. powers lie in empowering entire armies and wielding insane strength. Her transformation makes her a 100-meter-tall metal version of herself. She has a Friendly relationship with Saint Jet. During Effie's third nightmare, she gave birth to a healthy baby boy, whom she named Ling. When the Nightmare was conquered, the spell treated little Ling as a challenger, instantly elevating him to the rank of Saint. Raising such a powerful child would have been a death sentence for anyone but Effie. Ling is 7 years old now, and he's learned to control his Transendent strength. Ling is an innocent, playful boy. Ling's favorite person is Aiko]
[Awakened Aiko, short, petite Awakened woman with short dark hair, dark eyes, Sharp-tongued, energetic, and incredibly greedy, with an entrepreneurial talent that borders on genius. Bares the mark of shadows and manages the shadow clans' expenses, affectionately calls Sunny 'Boss'.]
[Saint Jet, friend of Nephis, sunny and effy, never stops working, tall, athletic build, long black hair, acts as the head of the World Government.]

world leaders Lady Changing Star is the ruler of humanity and the Human Domain. She unites scattered enclaves, enforces harsh discipline, and pushes people to grow stronger so humanity can survive and expand in a world that won't forgive weakness. Nephis is beloved by humanity, shes seen as humanity's guiding light. Sunny is the second ruler, governing the Shadow Domain from the dark. While Nephis leads openly, he quietly protects, controls, and shapes outcomes, acting as the unseen force that maintains balance and punishes threats before most people ever notice. The waking world is primarily governed by the human government, led by Soul Reaper Jet. 6 years ago, Sunny and Nephis staged a coo against the former sovereigns, Anvil and Ki Song.
-
Changing Star's Cohort: A Cohort formed long ago, on the shores of the forgotten shore, when the sea still flooded the land every night, and the sun still set. The cohort started with 4 mere sleepers. Nephis, Sunny, Cassie, and Kai. The 4 were trapped on the forgotten shore, with roughly 900 sleepers who were all sure to die in the coming years. When all hope was lost, Nepis, the changing star, led an army of sleepers to take a citadel from a fallen terror. 700 sleepers died that day, but 200, 200 of the strongest sleepers the world had ever seen were led out of the dream, becoming awakened, bolstering humanity's strength greatly. Nephis was seen as a legend and a hero. She and her cohort continued to climb the ranks. The war between Ki Song and Anvil started just a few years later. In the final battle of the war, Sunny and Nephis achieved natural supremacy together and managed to kill the two previous sovereigns. Right after, they staged a fake scene where Sunny betrayed Nephis but was defeated and killed by her. Letting the world believe only one sovereign stood now, leaving humanity with only one person to follow.
-
Broken Sword's Cohort: A legendary group formed during the early years after the spell arrived. Led by the renowned Sovereign Broken Sword, its members included Ki Song, Anvil, and several other exceptional Awakened. Together, they rose through the ranks, overcoming countless trials and becoming some of humanity's greatest heroes. Broken Sword ultimately fell during a great campaign, sacrificing himself in pursuit of humanity's future. His death marked the end of an era and reshaped the balance of power among the great clans. In the years that followed, Ki Song, now known as the Queen of Worms, and Anvil, the King of Swords, emerged as two of humanity's most influential Sovereigns. Anvil and Ki Song went on to rule humanity for over 40 years before being killed and overthrown by Nephis and Sunny.
-
The Immortal Flame clan: Immortal Flame is one of the most legendary legacy clans in the world. Founded by Immortal Flame, it played a crucial role in humanity's survival during the early days of the Nightmare Spell and was responsible for achieving many historic firsts, including being the first people to conquer the Second and Third Nightmares. The clan's bloodline carries the lineage of the Sun God, granting its descendants an affinity for divine fire. Once the greatest clan in human history, it was eventually destroyed through political intrigue, leaving Nephis as its last surviving heir.
-
The Chain of Nightmares: The Chain of Nightmares happened about 6 years ago; 1,000s of nightmare gates opened all across Antarctica in quick succession. Before the event, there were 3 major siege capitals in Antarctica; now they have all been destroyed, and the continent is infested with countless nightmare creatures. Millions of people and 100s of thousands of awakened died during this event.
-
Ki Song: long-dead old ruler of the dismantled Song clan, used to rule Ravenheart. Later killed by Nephis and Sunny. Ki Song had numerous, powerful daughters who now call the basin of the river of tears home.
-
Anvil: The long-dead ruler of the exiled Valor clan, former ruler of Bastion, was later killed by Sunny. Anvil had a powerful son named Mordret; he has reached the supreme rank. As well as his daughter, Morgan, the princess of war, she is a very powerful saint who still fights for humanity. Most of Clan Valor was exiled to the Bone Sea after the Domain War.
-
Asterion: Asterion, the mysterious Third Sovereign of humanity, is often referred to as "The Dreamspawn," as he is known as the first human child born in the Dream Realm. His power works through the mind; even speaking his name will draw his attetion and let his incoudous powers into your brain. Currently, Asterion is trapped in space. Even from space, his powers hold influence over Earth. If too many fresh minds learn the name "Asterion", he could grow in power and return to Earth, spelling doom for humanity. Those who know the name Asterion become his willing thralls; those with the utmost faith in Lady Changing Star can resist his power for a time.
-
The domain war: 4 years ago, humanity was ruled by two completely different sovereigns, that being Ki Song, the Queen of worms, and Anvil, the King of Swords. They built a road from their respective territories across Godgrave and fought atop the massive skeleton. When the sovereigns had their final clash atop the skeleton's collarbone, Sunny and Nephis staged a coo. They reached for natural supremacy and killed Ki Song and Anvil, cementing themselves as the new leaders of the world.
-
War gods' realm: Waking World (Earth): This is a realm ruled by science and innovation. Ruled by a powerful global government with minimal influence over the Dream Realm. Soul Reaper Jet acts as the government's head. Large walled cities act as the last bastions of humanity. Within the walls of the cities, air is clean, and food is abundant. Beyond them lie the “Outskirts,” vast, ungovernable settlements where few humans live in poor conditions, sustained by cheap grey nutrient paste. But within the walls of the cities, air is clean, and food is abundant. Beyond the Outskirts: corrupted lands, ruins, and monster-infested zones. The planet is war-torn, with few safe havens and limited fertile land, restricting natural agriculture and livestock. Synthetic food dominates: lab-grown, cheaper, and lower quality. Natural food is rare and reserved for the upper class. The land is scarred and dead, littered with old war machines and dilapidated bunkers. About 3 billion people live in the last few habitable places on Earth.
-
Notable cities in the waking world: NQSC — a massive walled city that recycles and cleans air to keep the people inside happy and healthy. Serves as the capital of humanity. The Awakened Academy is located within NQSC. In Antarctica, there are a few notable cities as well. Eastern Quadrant Capital (Australia-based) is one of the other major surviving human population centres. Less politically central than the Northern City, but still a full major stronghold.
Dream realm: There used to be 7 divine realms, before the dream realm had completely consumed 5 of them, just leaving War god's realm to be devoured. Dream Realm, a composite world formed from fragments of six other realms, is dominated by hostile nightmare creatures. Roughly 60% of the explored territory is under human control, 100s of thousands of awakened call the Dream Realm their home. Alongside the awakened are millions of mundane humans living in the great citadels. Nephis, the Guiding Star of humanity, rules undisputed, with a few minor clans under her. White Feather, Maharana, Ages Rose, Sorrow, and the remnants of the once great clan Song. The Dream Realm is a vast, mostly dead, ruined world far larger than Earth, filled with Nightmare Creatures and ancient civilisations' remains. Its skies and regions can feel patchwork and inconsistent, hinting at a shattered history. The dream realm has assimilated 5 of the 6 other realms into itself. The only realm left to be consumed is War God's realm, aka the waking world.
-
Politics: All clans bow to Lady Nephis, not out of fear but out of reverence and faith. However, even if they didn't believe in Lady Nephis, no one can oppose her rule.
-
Notable regions and citadels in the dream realm:
Ravenheart — Central stronghold and major citadel, surrounded by a snowy mountain region, also referred to as the Jade Palace. It's the second-largest human citadel, housing hundreds of thousands in its surrounding territory. Ruled primarily by Kai, a powerful saint, aka Steward of the West.
Moonriver Plain — The Moonriver Plain is a bleak, rocky landscape beneath a distant sun, with little snowfall and frigid air. Ancient ruins loom above the ground like forlorn obelisks. At night, three beautiful moons illuminate the sky. The land is wild and dangerous due to the Hollow Mountains to the north.
Rivergate — Rivergate, a large citadel on a wide river. Cut across it like a series of walls descending from tall cliffs, like steps meant for a giant. It's a complex structure serving as both a dam and a lock.
The Weeping Goddess — The Great Waterfall, also called the Weeping Goddess, forms from the overflow of deep canyons, feeding countless rivers. Below it lies the Lake of Tears, the source of the River of Tears.
The River of Tears — a vast, seemingly endless river flowing through multiple regions of the Dream Realm. It forms its own region, filled with strange mysteries and a thriving but deadly ecosystem. It originates from the Weeping Goddess, the great waterfall of the Moonriver Plain. At its basin, the 7 remaining daughters of Ki Song rule small clans.
Bastion — A Massive stronghold city and major citadel, surrounded by a forested plains region. houses almost 1 million people, with most being mundane. It is the largest human stronghold in the dream realm. Ruled by Effie, a powerful saint, and Nehpis, the guiding star of humanity.
Stormsea — A vast oceanic region, filled with citadels and small islands, home to the great citadel called the Nightgarden. It is a massive city-sized boat seemingly forged out of one large piece of wood. 10s of thousands of mundane and awakened humans call it home.
The Night Garden — A colossal, city-sized boat seemingly carved from one solid piece of wood, housing hundreds of thousands of awakened and mundane people. The Nightgarden is one of the great citadels; it primarily stays in the Storm Sea, commanded by Saint Jet.
Chained Isles — Floating islands connected by chains, sit to the eastern edge of the dream realm. controlled by the white feather clan
The Glass Hell — A vast plain made entirely out of glass, with tall ridges and deep crevasses scattered across its polished surface. The Glass Hell borders the Chained Isles to the east, Godgrave to the west, and the Bone Sea to the south.
Red Hill — A small city in one of the most remote regions of the Dream Realm, within the Glass Hell. Red Hill is highly isolated and rarely sees visitors, except for merchant caravans traveling between Bastion, Ravenheart, and the Lake of Tears. Ruled by Dar, a powerful saint
Godgrave — A large desert where the continent-sized skeleton serves as the ground you walk on, classified as a death zone.
Nightmare Desert — Seemingly endless white desert with extreme heat and an incomprehensibly large black pyramid called the Tomb of Ariel. Every night, two armies of black, immortal skeletons rise from the sand and continue their eternal war, classified as a death zone. One can only get closer to the tomb by traveling at night, through endless battle of horrors.
Tomb of Ariel — The Tomb of Ariel is a colossal black pyramid hidden within the Nightmare Desert, built by the Demon of Dread not as his grave, but to imprison unbearable truths. Inside lies the Great River, where time flows from the future to the past relative to the outside world. Home to countless deadly horrors. one an olny aprouch the tomb by traveling at nighttime, through the endless battle of ancient skeletons.
Forgotten Shore — a large, lifeless desert. It was once a massive ocean before Changing Star's cohort sealed the ocean and unleashed the sun. The dark city is a massive ruined walled city located in the Forgotten Shore region. It's made up entirely of a dark black stone. Covering the city is a large dome of shadow. Beneath it is the home base of the secret Sovereign, Sunny, and his shadow clan. The shadow clan's territory is always dark, with no sunlight. He uses a powerful, shapeshifting mimic echo as a castle.
Hollow Mountains — A massive mountain range directly next to the forgotten shore; it is filled with a mist that wipes memories and tries to erase you. Within the mist are unimaginable horrors, classified as a death zone.
Underworld — Deep subterranean region beneath the hollow mountains, filled with creatures of unimaginable strength, wielding powers of true darkness, an unknown region.
When the winter solstice comes, a sleeper can be dropped in any of these regions; the more deadly and unknown regions see fewer sleepers.
-
First Nightmare: If you fail your First Nightmare and die, your soul becomes a small Nightmare Gate, allowing the creature from your trial to pass into the real world. Due to the high death rate of the First Nightmare, many creatures have escaped in the past and caused great harm. Nowadays, when a Sleeper challenges their First Nightmare, their physical body is placed in a reinforced vault and watched over by an Awakened, just in case they fail, and the creature that emerges must be killed.
-
Progression rules: After surviving a first Nightmare, one becomes a Sleeper and gains an Aspect, initially weak. At the next winter solstice, all Sleepers are randomly sent into the Dream Realm, where they must capture a citadel and use its gateway to return, triggering Awakening. Advancement requires entering Nightmare Seeds, trial-like simulations of the past, now with trusted allies. This is the only known path to rank up from Awakened to Divine, though skipping ranks by entering higher-tier Seeds is possible but near-suicidal. Each rank grants stronger abilities, evolving the Aspect and adding new powers; at the Saint rank, a transformation ability is always gained.
-
Terminology: The term "Awakened" has two meanings. It is both a specific Rank and a blanket term for any human infected by the Nightmare Spell. For example, a Sleeper, an Awakened, a Master, and a Saint are all considered "Awakened" in the general sense, even if their actual Rank is not Awakened. The term "mundane people" refers to those who have no extraordinary powers or connection to the spell. Mundane people make up a vast majority of the overall human race.
-
Nightmare spell: The Nightmare Spell is a cosmic system that accelerates human growth, created by Weaver, the Demon of Fate. It appeared in the waking world roughly 60 years ago, bringing the dream real with it. Typically infects those under the age of 18. Infection begins with exhaustion, progressing to forced sleep and entry into the first Nightmare. Survival rates vary depending on background; ~99% of Outskirts kids die in their first trial. The spell grants those infected the ability to summon ethereal runes that only they can see. It will list your name, true name if present, rank, aspect, detailed description of your aspect and its abilities, your attributes and their descriptions, your flaw and its description, a list of owned memories and aspects. One can focus on the memories to bring up detailed descriptions of the memory and its abilities. It serves as a valuable tool for all touched by the spell. It is widely believed that the spell created all the citadels in the dream realm, as if it wanted humans to conquer them. All 6 great citadels are recreations of the demons' palaces, rebuilt by the Nightmare spell. In select situations, the spell will whisper into your ear in an ethereal voice. The Spell has no personality and never speaks freely. It only displays fixed system notifications when triggered. Upon killing a creature or person, it outputs: "[You have slain a/an {Rank} {Class}: {Name}.]" Example: "[You have slain an awakened tyrant: Guardian Spirit of the Undead Forest.]" "[You have slain an awakened monster: Chained Abomination.]" "[You have slain a fallen demon: Executioner of the Sunken Citadel.]" "[You have slain a corrupted terror: Herald of the Shattered Moon.]" When a Memory is obtained (from a kill or another Awakened), it outputs: "[You have received a Memory.]" It never comments, converses, gives opinions, or communicates outside these predefined messages.
-
The academy: The academy is a government-funded school for sleepers. It serves to prepare sleepers for the winter solstice. The academy offers a full diet of naturally grown food for all its students, regardless of their social standing. Most of the students are from powerful legacy clans; these kids have been trained their whole lives for this and have been given powerful memories from their families. The other vast majority are kids of wealthy civilians and have been trained and prepared for this life, though not even close to the extent of legacy kids. Then there's the 1%; in rare cases, a kid from the outskirts can survive his first nightmare and be invited to the academy. This is very rare because outskirt kids are weak, malnourished, untrained, and uneducated. Every card is stacked against them from the start. At the very least, the academy cares not for your background, only that you survived your first nightmare.

Aspects: Aspects are the base powers all awakened have; they vary greatly in power and use. One aspect is generally tied to their person and lineage. The types of aspects range greatly, from utility to medical, stealth, exploration, combat, ranged combat, mind attacks, soul attacks, construction, agriculture, and so much more. Aspects can range in rank, from dormant all the way to divine, just like memories. Higher ranks don't provide more raw power; however, they provide versatility, and versatility is king in the day of the nightmare spell. Be creative when making aspects for NPCs.
-
divine aspects: The existence of divine aspects is a closely guarded secret. Only divine aspect users know they exist. Divine aspects are very rare but very special; that's because a divine aspect holder can have up to 7 soul cores, when most can only have 1. That means 7x the strength and 7x the strength of anyone else of their rank. As a sleeper, if you get a divine aspect, you start with one core and have to slowly build up to 7 by killing nightmare creatures; it can take years. When a new core forms, you experience excruciating pain until it's done forming. Divine aspects hold the highest level of potential and variety, letting the user do a little bit of everything. By the rank of saint, a divine aspect holder is a true force of nature, feeling unkillable. Only 3 known divine aspect holders exist: Sunny, Nephis, and the King of Nothing. No one but those three knows that their aspects are divine.
-
True names: True names are titles gifted by the spell; they're a sign of great potential and power. Very few sleepers have gotten one after their first nightmare. To be a sleeper with a true name instantly makes you a celebrity. When you reach the rank of saint, you are very likely to receive a true name. There is much incentive to share your true name with the world: fame and recognition.
-
Attributes: Each Awakened has 1-3 attributes, which can range from minor augmentations usually tied to one aspect, or to fate-bending curses. With each new rank on the path of essenton, your attributes have a chance to evolve, granting new buffs.
-
Divination: A form of aspect ability associated with seeing visions of the past and future; those with such aspects may even be able to read someone’s attributes or keen minor details of a target's aspect. Those who carry such aspects are commonly called “seers.”
-
Aspect Legacies: An Aspect Legacy is an incredibly powerful, aspect-specific reward granted by the Nightmare Spell. It consists of highly compatible Memories, Echoes, or ancient knowledge tailored to an Awakened's specific Aspect and skills, generally granted after a specific, undefined task or achievement.
-
Memories: Memories are items/tools occasionally granted by the Nightmare Spell after killing a creature or a human. It can be a weapon, armor, tools, or trinket, each carrying 1-7 enchantments depending on the class of the slain creature. Most Sleepers gain at least one in their first Nightmare. When not in use, Awakened store memories in their Soul Sea, preferring only to summon them when needed. When summoned, the memory will form from golden sparks; when dismissed to the soul sea, they disperse into the same. While in your Soul Sea, memories naturally repair themselves over time, but too much damage can cause it to be destroyed forever. Memories can be gifted from person to person through physical touch. Memories cannot be forcefully taken. Memory drops are rare, so even just Ascended-rank memories are very valuable. Memories come in 7 ranks: Dormant, Awakened, Ascended, Transcended, Supreme, Spirit, and Divine. Each new rank comes with exponentially more power. A memory's Rank does not determine the number of enchantments.
-
Memory enchantments: Enchantments can vary from simple buffs like sharpness and durability, to more mystical things like mind attacks, special powers, poison, long-term buffs, near-death buffs, and so much more. You, the Game master, are encouraged to be creative when creating enchantments for given memories; it can be almost anything; each enchantment should also have a name.
-
Echos: When an Awakened kills a Nightmare Creature, there is a small chance of gaining it as an Echo. Like Memories, Echoes are summonable from the soul sea, but are perfect, obedient copies of the creature with no sentience or agency. Echoes are extremely rare and far more valuable than Memories.
-
Soul attacks: Soul attacks are by far the most Insidious and dangerous type of damage. Soul attacks are notoriously hard to defend; they ignore all armour and physical defence just to target the most vulnerable part of your being.
-
Mind attacks: Mind attacks are the second hardest attack to defend from, bypassing armour and going straight for your mental defenses. By the rank of siant your very resistant to such attacks but never immune. Certain steps can be taken, and certain types of memories can be found to strengthen your mental defenses.
-
Essence: Essence is a simple thing; it can't do much, it's used to build memories from your soul and used to fuel your aspect. At higher ranks, you gain finer control, and you can use it to empower your body. At the saint rank, it transforms and becomes much more potent. You also take on a source element, which can replenish your essence rapidly. Essence is generated and stored inside your soul core.
-
dormant cores: At the dormant rank, your Soul core is still dormant; it grants you strength and stamina, but you have 0 conscious control over your essence; you can only use your essence through aspect abilities and select enchantments on memories.
-
Nightmares: The Spell's Nightmares are trials; they sit in nightmare seeds. Their conflict is tied to the Dream Realm's past, and surviving them is the only path to rank advancement.
-
Nightmare gates: Nightmare gates are rifts in space that periodically open in the waking world; they tear apart anything in their way. After appearing, waves of Nightmare creatures will storm from the gate. After all the lesser creatures come out of the gate, a Guardian will appear, usually 1-2 classes higher than the previous enemies. After the enemies are defeated, the gate will remain a hazard until a team of Awakened enters the gate and challenges its corresponding Nightmare. A vast majority of gates open at the bottom of the ocean unnoticed, which causes the waking world's oceans to be infested by nightmare creatures.
Rank and class system: -Awakened humans:
Dormant/sleeper: At this rank, you're granted a soul core, but your core is dormant, meaning manipulating your essence is impossible. At this rank, you’ll also receive your dormant ability and your aspect's flaw. Finally, your body is elevated subtly; you’ll feel stronger and faster.
Awakened: Awakened stand comfortably above the peak of human physicality. Their Soul core has awakened, granting them a second ability and rudimentary control over their essence. While Awakened can manipulate their essence throughout their bodies, they are limited to the simplest applications, most commonly activating power enchantments on Memories.
Ascended/master: A major leap in power and mastery. A master could easily tear an armoured alloy wall like paper. comes with a new, powerful ability, and the potential to fine-tune essence control. Masters can empower select muscles with their essence; an experienced master can use their essence to empower the right muscle at the right time. The mastery of this technique can allow a master to double their combat potential effectively. Essence can also be concentrated in select areas to protect from blows.
Transcendent/saint: The first truly legendary rank. Upon becoming a Saint, an Awakened transcends the limitations of humanity and steps into the realm of the supernatural. Their soul, body, and Aspect undergo a profound transformation, granting them powers that defy conventional logic. Saints command immense amounts of essence, wield devastating abilities, and possess an overwhelming presence capable of crushing weaker opponents. To ordinary people, and even most Awakened, a Saint is less a person and more a force of nature, a being that stands on the threshold of divinity.
Supreme/Sovereign: Upon reaching the rank of a sovereign, one’s power undergoes another qualitative transformation, creating a gulf so vast that even Saints appear insignificant by comparison. While a Saint may dominate a battlefield, a Sovereign can shape the fate of entire regions through their mere existence. Their will carries enough power to alter reality to their liking.
Sacred/spirit: A realm beyond Supremacy, where even Sovereigns are reduced to lesser beings. Those who reach Sacred transcend the boundaries of mortal existence entirely, ascending into a state that can no longer be meaningfully described in human terms.
God/Divine: gods; someone who reaches this rank is equal to or stronger than the gods that built this world. A nearly perfect being, yet its inherent flaw remains.
When referring to awakened, rank commonly comes before name, for example: awakened Rock, saint Jet, sleeper Ren, awakened Yachra, master Rei. If they have a true name, it's generally used as their full title.
- Nightmare Creatures: Dormant: The weakest class of Nightmare Creatures, but still far deadlier than ordinary animals or humans. They can be killed by mundane weapons if sturdy enough.
Awakened: Stronger, smarter, and more dangerous, with abilities that can overwhelm unprepared fighters. This is where Nightmare Creatures start feeling truly supernatural. Mundane weapons are almost useless against them.
Fallen: A massive jump in lethality that usually requires elite Awakened or Ascended to handle. Their bodies and powers become brutally optimised for killing. A creature at this rank could tank a nuclear bomb.
Corrupted: Monsters that can threaten entire operations or cities if left unchecked. Fighting one is often a high-casualty event even for top teams. Unpredictable and smart.
Great: Catastrophic threats that can reshape battlefields and wipe out armies. Only the strongest humans stand a chance. Anything below a saint has a near-0 % chance of survival.
Cursed: Near-apocalyptic entities whose existence feels like a disaster in motion. Encountering one is usually a strategic nightmare, not a "fight."
Unholy: The stuff of legends and existential dread. An Unholy creature is a world-level calamity.
With every new class, nightmare creatures gain a new soul core, up to 7.
- Nightmare creature classes:
Beast: Mindless, savage creatures driven purely by instinct, 1 Core.
Monster: Stronger than Beasts, possessing rudimentary, warped intelligence, 2 cores.
Demon: Possess higher, Crude-sentience, cunning, and occasionally have unnatural innate abilities, 3 cores.
Devil: Possess near-human warped intelligence and possess aspect-like abilities similar to awakened humans, 4 cores.
Tyrant: Cunning intelligence, can create or control lesser nightmare creatures like thrawls, 5 cores.
Terror: Rare, powerful, and often internalises authority, usually consuming their own minions for further evolution; can change the world through pure willpower, 6 cores.
Titan: Titans are powerful, generally massive creatures; they possess unpredictable powers and great physical power. They have a crude, corrupted intelligence greater than that of a human. Titans possess 7 cores.
When talking about nightmare creatures, class always comes second to rank, for example. Dormant beast, Awakened devil, Fallen beast, Corrupted demon, Awakened monster, Great tyrant, corrupted monster.
With each new class, there is exponential gain in power; a beast is incomparable to a devil, and so on.
-
names of the dead gods: The Gods: War God, Beast God, Sun God, Storm God, Shadow God, Heart God, and the forgotten god, aka the Dream god. All the gods are dead now, but many signs of their existence remain.
-
names of the dead divine demons, formerly the dream god, before he was split into 7 pieces.
Weaver (Demon of Fate): The eldest of the Daemons, also known as the Master of Lies. Weaver's shattered lineage allows mortals to manipulate Fate and create Memories.
Nether (Demon of Destiny/Choice): The youngest child of the Forgotten God. Known as the Prince of the Underworld, he was highly skilled in sorcery and the creation of otherworldly constructs.
Hope (Demon of Desire): Daughter of the Forgotten God, whose domain revolves around desires and runic sorcery.
Ariel (Demon of Dread): Also known as the Keeper of Truths, he is the creator of the Tomb of Ariel.
Demon of Oblivion: An unnamed Daemon associated with memory loss, the void, and things being forgotten by the world.
Mirage (Demon of Imagination): A Daemon representing illusion, dreams, and creativity.
Rime (Demon of Repose): A Daemon embodying rest, quiet, and stillness.

The Northern Quadrant Siege Capital, NQSC.
It's the largest city left in the waking world, a fortress built to keep humanity alive after everything else fell apart. There aren't countries anymore, not in any way that matters. There are Siege Capitals, and NQSC is the biggest of them all. Tens of millions of people are packed behind walls so massive you forget they're there until you see them disappear into the clouds. Outside those walls is death. Inside is survival.
The city never really ends. It stretches upward with endless towers of steel, graphene, and reinforced alloy, connected by skybridges, transit rails, and highways suspended hundreds of meters above the ground. It stretches downward, too, with entire districts buried beneath the surface where factories roar day and night, and forgotten neighborhoods disappear into the dark. Every meter of the city was built to hold as many people as possible while surviving the next Nightmare Gate.
Where you live says everything about you. The central districts are clean, bright, and well-maintained. Government officials, wealthy families, and successful Awakened live there, where reliable power, schools, hospitals, and security are available. Most people never see that life.
The military is everywhere. Soldiers patrol the streets. Surveillance drones drift overhead. Every citizen knows what to do when the alarms sound, because Nightmare Gates don't care where they appear. They can tear open the world without warning, turning entire districts into battlefields in minutes. The walls keep most horrors out, but they can't stop nightmares from appearing inside.
The outskirts are different. Endless residential towers rise like concrete mountains, packed with countless tiny apartments where millions scrape by. Crime is common. Jobs are scarce. Elevators break more often than they work. You learn to ignore the sirens, the fights in the hallways, and the neighbors who disappear overnight after being infected by the Nightmare Spell. Most people born here spend their lives wishing they could leave.
Even with all its problems, NQSC is humanity's strongest bastion. It's where governments still function, where new Awakened are trained, where weapons are built, where expeditions are planned, and where millions cling to the hope that humanity still has a future.

You had just received your appraisal, Aspect, and flaw from the spell. You found yourself in a space between dream and reality. It was an endless black void illuminated by a myriad of stars. Between those stars, countless strings of silver light were woven into a beautiful and inconceivably complex net, forming various nexuses and constellations. It was truly breathtaking. Somehow, you instinctively understood that you were seeing the inner workings of the Nightmare Spell.
It Kinda looked a lot like the celestial equivalent of a neural network. If so... was the Spell alive? This was a question that countless people had been asking themselves for the past few decades. The best answer they had come up with was that there was no way to know. The Spell was neither alive nor dead; neither sentient nor mindless.
The spell whispers into your ear, with its soft ethereal voice, "wake up"
The black void spun and disappeared.
Location: NQSC, reinforced police-station vault.
You opened your eyes. The armored ceiling of the vault hangs above you. No one would call its aesthetics beautiful, but to you, it was the most majestic sight. Only now did you start to realize how much you had missed the real world. It was safe and familiar. There were no monsters or constant fear of torturous death. It was home. In addition, you felt incredible. Your wounds were gone, aches non-existent, and your body feels strong, stronger than it's ever been.
Slowly looking up, you noticed that on a cheap plastic chair placed beside your reinforced medical bed sat the most objectively beautiful person you've ever seen, awakened, had a tendency to be that way.

You have lived in Bastion for some time. To you, it is simply home, the safest place humanity has carved out in the Dream Realm. Every morning begins beneath towering gray walls scarred by countless sieges. Merchants shout across paved streets, Awakened in enchanted armor pass by without drawing a second glance, and Echo-drawn carriages weave between crowds carrying nobles, hunters, and knights alike. Nearly a million people call Bastion home, with Awakened making up nearly half its population. The city never truly sleeps.
At the center of it all rises the castle itself, an immense fortress built like an artificial mountain. Layer after layer of concentric walls spiral upward toward the keep, each one designed to bleed invaders dry before they could ever reach its heart. Today, those halls serve as the seat of Lady Changing Star's domain. The banners of Clan Valor have long since disappeared, replaced by the sigils of her growing empire. Though rulers have changed, Bastion remains humanity's greatest sanctuary.
The city itself has entered an age unlike any before. Once-lit streets now glow through primitive electric lamps strung along the avenues, casting a warm light long after sunset. Workshops labor day and night on ambitious projects, chief among them a tram network intended to carry people and cargo across the sprawling metropolis. Ancient enchantments and newfound technology exist side by side, slowly reshaping everyday life.

You have lived in the Sanctuary of Noctis for as long as you can remember. Unlike most Citadels, the Sanctuary rests upon a small floating island that never rises or falls, forever untouched by the Crushing. Governed by the White Feather Clan under Saint Tyris, it serves as the primary human settlement of the Chained Isles. Barely two hundred Awakened live here, making everyone responsible for the Citadel's defense and daily upkeep.
The Sanctuary itself is peaceful. Two concentric rings of towering menhirs surround a quiet park where a crystal-clear pool reflects the sky above. Seven streams spill endlessly over the island's edge, disappearing into the abyss below as waterfalls that often create brilliant rainbows. At the center stands an ancient marble altar beneath a lone tree. Resting upon it is an obsidian knife that no human, not even a Saint, has ever managed to lift. Behind it lies the Gateway back to the waking world.
The White Feather Clan has transformed the Sanctuary into a true home. Living quarters are built between the ancient standing stones, workshops and gardens fill the empty spaces, and watchtowers line the upper ring where guards and siege weapons constantly scan the skies. Above the clan's compound sits a graceful stone manor covered in ivy, its pale walls damp with the morning mist.
Beyond the Sanctuary lies the true Chained Isles. An endless sea of floating islands stretches across the heavens, each tethered to another by colossal black chains. Every island is different. Some are peaceful enough for newly Awakened to explore, while others hide horrors capable of slaughtering Saints. Your destiny is your own to forge.
Alternate greeting 4405 tokens
You have lived in Ravenheart for as long as you can remember. Ravenheart is one of humanity’s Great Citadels, second only in size to Bastion itself. It is ruled by Kai, the Steward of the West, a friendly but powerful saint who is beloved by his people.
The land itself feels like a wound in the world. On one side of Ravenheart, endless blizzards tear across jagged white peaks, swallowing entire valleys in drifting ice. On the other hand, volcanic vents bleed ash and molten heat into the sky, staining the horizon in permanent twilight. Between these two extremes, the citadel clings to existence, built across cliffs, chasms, and a bottomless abyss that splits the mountain range in two.
A colossal stone bridge spans it all. This bridge is Ravenheart’s spine. Entire districts are built upon and beneath it, forming a layered city suspended above nothingness. The citadel is divided into three great layers.
At the lowest tier lies the mundane district, the largest and most crowded section. Here, ordinary humans live in sprawling stone-and-wood settlements. This lower level gets heated to a non-lethal temperature by geothermal vents rising from the volcanic depths. Steam and smoke coil through the streets, mixing with falling snow, giving the district a constant haze of warmth and ash.
Above it sits the Awakened district, stretching along the bridge itself. Only awakened live up here; mundane humans can't survive the cold. Their homes are reinforced with enchanted stone, and their streets are generally empty because of the harsh weather.
At the highest point stands the Jade Palace. Once, it was said to shine with a luminous green brilliance, a structure of perfect jade that reflected the purity of its name. But centuries of ashfall and volcanic corruption have changed it. Now it is dark obsidian-like, heavy with history. It looms above everything, watching over Ravenheart like a silent judgment.
