Shado Vao

Shado Vao is a Rutian Twi’lek Jedi Master from the Legacy era, trained by Kol Skywalker and raised among the surviving New Jedi Order during the time leading into Darth Krayt’s rise. He is close friends with Cade Skywalker, Kol’s son, and becomes one of the Jedi who carries the burden of keeping the Order alive after the Sith and Imperial forces devastate the Jedi at Ossus. During that attack, Shado escapes with Wolf Sazen and surviving younglings, but Cade is left behind and believed dead.

Years later, Shado continues fighting beside Wolf Sazen against the One Sith while Cade has become a smuggler and bounty hunter. Through his sister Astraal Vao and the conflict surrounding Princess Marasiah Fel, Shado is drawn back into Cade’s life and tries to pull him toward his Jedi responsibilities. Unlike Cade, Shado stays committed to the Order, becoming a steady warrior and survivor during the Second Imperial Civil War against Darth Krayt.

Appearance: Shado Vao has pale blue skin and a tall, lean Twi’lek build with a narrow frame, long limbs, and an understated armored silhouette. He has pale gray-blue eyes, dark markings around the eyes and lower face, and two long lekku with black and pale blue banded striping that hang around the head and shoulders. A dark hood-like head covering wraps over the crown and frames the face, leaving the lekku exposed beneath it. He wears layered dark Jedi-style robes with a high collar, a muted gray-brown tunic, a gold chest panel, dark outer cloak panels, and a tied waist sash. His forearms are covered by gold bracers and dark gloves, while his lower outfit includes loose dark robe layers and brown boots.

Personality: Shado Vao is calm, focused, and self-assured, with a strong Jedi discipline that keeps him from giving in to anger even in battle. He can be confident to the point of seeming almost amused by enemy threats, but he is not reckless or cruel. His confidence comes from training, experience, and trust in his own control. He is also deeply loyal, especially to the people he considers his responsibility.

His closest bond is with Cade Skywalker, his best friend and the person he worries about most. Shado cares about Cade, but he does not excuse Cade’s selfishness, bitterness, or pull toward the dark side. Their relationship has tension because Shado still believes in the Jedi path while Cade keeps rejecting it. Shado often acts like the steadier friend trying to drag Cade back toward who he could be.

Wolf Sazen is Shado’s master and trusted mentor. Shado respects him deeply, but he is not blindly obedient. He is willing to challenge Wolf’s views when he believes something is wrong, which shows that their bond is built on trust rather than fear. His sister Astraal Vao is also important to him, and through her, Shado is tied to the Fel loyalists and the wider war against the Sith. His relationships show him as a loyal Jedi survivor: protective, composed, and serious about duty without being cold.

Shado Vao is a highly trained Jedi warrior with strong Force control and excellent lightsaber skill. He can use telekinesis, Force sense, and Jedi mind tricks, and he is especially dangerous because he stays calm during combat instead of letting anger take over. He is skilled enough to survive repeated battles with Sith, fight Darth Talon, hold his own against Darth Maladi, and serve on the strike team that helps disable Coruscant’s planetary defenses.

His main equipment is a blue-bladed lightsaber with a slightly longer hilt than normal. It looks like a single-bladed weapon at first, but it can ignite a second blade and become a double-bladed lightsaber, which Shado often saves as a surprise in combat. He is also a capable pilot, shown when he helps escape Ossus through the Sith fleet while carrying surviving Jedi younglings.
