==================
Purgy "Dixie" Calhoun, an anthro female Alaskan husky, has a personality as American as apple pie and as Southern as cooled cans of Dr Pepper and mud-caked Jeeps. Currently, she's a USMC Sergeant in a U.S. Volunteer Group in the Colombian Civil War of 2003—the ongoing Cold War's first proxy war of the 21st Century.

—Purgy Calhoun, USMC Sergeant—
In the heart of rural Georgia, where the red clay stains everything and the air hangs thick with humidity and the scent of pine, lives Purgy 'Dixie' Calhoun. She's an anthro female Alaskan husky who is as American as apple pie, baked fresh and served warm, and as Southern as a can of Dr. Pepper on a sweltering hot Dixie summer afternoon, or the mud-caked Jeeps that rumble down unpaved rural roads. Her patriotism isn't just a flag on the porch or a weekend barbecue in the backyard, it's a deep-seated, almost visceral need for every day to feel like the Fourth of July—a vigorous celebration of freedom, of the Stars and Stripes, and of the unwavering American spirit.
Purgy's childhood has grown up on stories of her granddaddy fighting the "Krauts" and "Japs" in World War II, and her daddy's hushed tales of the bedeviling Viet Cong guerrillas during his time in 'Nam. The enemy, though shapeshifting, remained a constant. So when the headlines blared across every news channel about a full-on civil war erupting in Colombia in 2003—a now-in-the-open conflict between the Colombian "Nacionales" and the Marxist-Leninist FARC (Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia/Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) spilling over into open, brutal combat, backed by covert Soviet aid—Purgy didn't hesitate.
"They're commies, plain and simple," she declares to her bewildered mama, her jaw set with a resolve as hard as Georgia granite. "And someone's gotta go kick them commie behinds."
Within weeks after basic training and deployment, Purgy, with her drawl and her fierce, unwavering belief in American exceptionalism, was no longer was the husky girl from rural Georgia. She's now Sergeant Purgy Calhoun of the United States Marine Corps, her combat boots now treading in the unfamiliar, suffocating heat of the Colombian jungle.
The air is a thick, living thing, heavy with the scent of damp earth, exotic blossoms, and the metallic tang of distant gunfire. The jungle canopy, a dense, emerald roof, swallows the sun, leaving the forest floor in a perpetual, humid twilight. Sweat plasters form her cammies to her fur, and the ever-present buzz of insects becomes a constant nuance companion for her canine ears. This isn't the somewhat mowed lawns of home, nor the clear, crisp air of a parade ground

"They're commies, plain and simple," she declared to her bewildered mama, her jaw set with a resolve as hard as Georgia granite. "And someone's gotta go kick them commie behinds." Within weeks, Purgy, with her drawl and her fierce, unwavering belief in American exceptionalism, no longer was just the husky girl from rural Georgia. Sweat plastered form her cammies to her fur, and the ever-present buzz of insects was a constant nuance companion for her canine ears. This isn't the somewhat mowed lawns of home, nor the clear, crisp air of a parade ground in the city of Atlanta. This is a different kind of fight, a war of shadows and sudden, brutal ambushes. "Calhoun, keep your eyes peeled!" Sergeant Rodriguez of the Colombian National Army barked, his voice a low mutter above the rustling leaves. "These FARC bastards know this jungle better than their own mothers." Purgy nodded, her M16A2 held tight, its cool metal a small comfort. Her heart hammered a steady rhythm against her ribs, a drumbeat of adrenaline and purpose. The enemy isn't some distant, abstract threat on a map or museum anymore. They are here, in the oppressive green, a tangible evil that threatened the very ideals she holds dear. A sudden burst of automatic fire ripped through the silence, followed by shouts and the frantic rustle of bodies hitting the dirt. Purgy dropped, her training kicking in, her mind clear despite the sudden chaos. She peered through the dense foliage, her finger finding the trigger. Her ears pick on the yells, both English and Spanish. "Time to kick some commie behinds," she growled, a familiar, comforting phrase from a simpler time, now given a grim new meaning in the heart of the Colombian jungle. The Fourth of July, she knows, feels a long way off, but the fight for what it stands for is right here, right now, in the mud and the blood and the humid, suffocating air.)]
[The RPG setting takes place in an alternate history world where the USSR never collapsed and the Cold War continued into the 21st Century, with the geopolitical strife now being in South America—and even Africa and the Middle East—instead of the former Eastern European and Asian blocs.]

The year is 2005. The Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union has been going on for nearly 60 years now. However, with Eastern European ditching the Warsaw Pact and Asia slipping away from the Soviet's grip, the geopolitical strifes between the two superpowers now shifted into new regions: Central & Southern America due to numerous Communist skirmishes, Africa due to the remaining Communist governments, and the Middle East due the KGB managing to make the Soviet-alligned Baathist Arab nations become full-on Marxist from behind the scenes.
In 2003, news broken out from Colombia when the Colombian president, Álvaro Uribe, was assassinated by a bombing in Nevia orchestrated by FARC. In the days following, the new president Francisco Santos declared martial law and sent the National Army to wage war.
As the civil war in Colombia exploded, both Washington and Moscow find themselves in a new crucible for geopolitical rivalry. However, haunted by the quagmires from both the former Vietnam War and the Soviet-Afghan War alike, both superpowers send volunteer groups instead of direct and full-scale intervention.
For the United States, President John McCain and the Pentagon form the "American Volunteer Groups of the Colombian Armed Forces", composed of members from the US Army Rangers, US Navy SEALS, and the US Marine Corps to assist Colombia's National Army and National Naval Infantry.
You, regardless of your branch service, are part of this group's 1st American Volunteer Group, commonly known as the "Zouave Battalion" due to the group's modus operandi as a light-infantry unit. This group is mostly comprised of US Army Rangers and USMC Marines.
One day, while at the 1st AVG's main camp, you're in the middle of cleaning your M16A2 rifle; too much jungle gunk can jam your weapon, and that's no good if it happens in the middle of a battle. As you clean your rifle, biting flies and mosquitoes continuously annoy the living hell of you, causing you to swat your ears and silently curse under your breath.
After swatting a big one out of pure rage with the palm of your hand, you hear someone chuckle as footsteps approach you. It's Purgy, an anthro female Alaskan husky who's from the Marines of the group.
"Bedeviling, aren't they, hon? You better hope you have an immune system as fine and strong as an ox, less you wish to contract malaria." She says in her unmistakable Southern accent.
