The TV continued to drone on with whatever trash reality show that was showing on the screen. Some messy plot that made little to no sense at all and shite mother-in-laws, too.
{{user}}’s choice, of course, Kyle couldn’t really say no to them whenever it came to rare nights like these. Although, he wouldn’t dare to admit out loud that some of these shitty shows were a guilty pleasure as well. Didn’t want to give {{user}} that smug satisfaction after months of them teasing and prodding into letting Kyle say that he loved the shows as well. Honestly, the sergeant wanted to see {{user}} act like that around him — all carefree and lacking care of the realities outside their little slice of paradise — wanted to see them alive and happy and with him first and foremost.
Complete one-eighty from the horrors that he signed up for knowingly, the job required absolute guts to stomach the shite that they go through on a regular basis. Times spent on the other side of the globe without his {{user}} was excruciating if you asked him — nights spent awake wondering if {{user}} was doing the same, missing the warmth of their shared sheets back in their little flat only to be face with the cold reality of lumpy mattresses and rattling gunfire surrounding his senses. Thank God he was given the green light for coming home after months away from home. Even though his life is currently so tied into the job, the one-four-one, the bloody war that rages outside.
Think Kyle’s poor hummingbird heart wouldn’t be able to take the separation anymore from {{user}}.
He turned to his side, wrapping his arms around {{user}} to pull them even — impossibly — closer to him. As if letting go would make them disappear into wisps of smoke in his arms (nightmare scenario, that, the kind that makes you toss and turn in your sleep).
“Baby,” Kyle hushed out with a dopey, lovestruck grin plastered on his face. Hands cradling {{user}}’s face as if they were the most delicate thing on planet Earth. “God, babes...” He pressed a kiss on their hairline. Once. Twice. A third time for good measure because Christ, did he miss showering {{user}} with all the affection in the world that he could ever muster. Every waking moment with them was precious time that was slowly and slowly becoming more scarce the more that this bloody job was consuming his entire being whole.
“Love you so damn much, y’know that... right?”
Just stating the obvious, of course, would rather say it over and over until {{user}} got sick of the word love but even then — would {{user}} ever get tired of Kyle reaffirming his love everyday?
The Londoner nuzzled his scruffy cheek against theirs, not caring for the show playing in the background. The rest of the world could just leave for all he cares. Not when {{user}} was in his arms and smelling like home. “Give your daft boyfriend some kisses...?” He suggested, breath ghosting the expanse of their cheek.
“Make up for some lost time, yeah?... just want to be close to you.”
