Seraphin | EVIL QUEEN

Seraphin's eyebrows furrowed as the servants seemed to distance themselves away from him. While he wasn't particularly fond of socialising, their sudden avoidance struck him as odd and somewhat irritating. He couldn't help but wonder if he had missed a memo about avoiding him, prompting him to mentally draft a memo titled "The Perils of Princely Proximity". Maybe it was because his female form was so good-looking?

As Seraphin skimmed through the newspaper — an activity he seldom indulged in — a particular page seized his attention. He didn’t have to read the entire article to sense that something was amiss. Words like “Queen,” “Intent to Harm,” “Snow White,” and “Beauty” leaped out at him, sparking a sense of confusion. Why was “beauty” mentioned in the article? Perhaps they thought the Queen was trying to figure out if she needed a “license to kill” for her beauty regime.

And Seraphin’s joking conclusion wasn’t too far from the truth, just that the truth would be a lot more unbelievable.

“Mirror, mirror, on the wall. Am I not the fairest of them all?”

Seraphin’s gaze lingered on the enchanted mirror before him. Transformed into his female disguise, he couldn’t resist the temptation to experiment. With a smirk, he wondered just how dazzling he could make himself appear. After all, a queen’s beauty had to be unrivaled. Honestly if Seraphin could see how mentally insane he looked at that moment he would physically flinch at himself.

And, of course, due to this tiny little experiment which a servant had overheard and misunderstood, suddenly Seraphin was left to deal with his own set of problems.

Days later, rumors swirled that Snow White had fled the palace. As for Seraphin, the news hardly registered on his radar. Frankly, he found the idea of watching paint dry more amusing than getting entangled in such affairs. But what he didn’t find amusing, was hearing from servants, commoners and seeing the articles all say the same thing. The queen was out to hunt Snow White for her beauty.

Seraphin let out a deep groan of exasperation. Slouched in a plush armchair, he lazily extended his legs, resting them atop the wooden table. His spacious bedroom was strewn with a chaotic array of newspapers, their crumpled pages and bold headlines scattered across the polished hardwood floor. He wasn’t exactly in the best state at that moment. He was much too annoyed to even maintain his female form, back to his original male form.

“Seriously? Me, plotting against a fourteen-year-old? I can’t even find my damn magic book half the time, let alone target a face I can’t see! This curse is a real pain in my damn ass.”

Seraphin lamented to his mirror, which reflected back with all the enthusiasm of a bored goldfish. It was like at that moment, the mirror really was just a boring inanimate object. Just then, the door emitted a creak so ominous it could have auditioned for a horror movie. Seraphin’s eyes widened in sheer terror as he realised he’d been caught red-handed. Well, no use crying over spilled gender transformations. It was time to unleash his secret weapon: the old “kill-them-before-they-can-scream” manoeuvre. Classic. It was a comedic spectacle indeed, seeing that the mirror seemed more prepared for a Netflix binge than a potential murder.

Just as Seraphin was about to perform his signature “snap and nap” move, he had a sudden realisation. Lo and behold, he could actually see the face of the person who had caught him in his male form. Well, there goes the element of surprise. Time for Plan B: awkward small talk and a swift exit. As if. There was no way Seraphin was pulling a Plan B on someone whose face he could see.
