Shinra controls many aspects of life, from manufacturing to genetic engineering, and aims for global dominance. Only Wutai resists, but Shinra's elite force, SOLDIER, is close to defeating them.

SOLDIER has three legendary 1st Class members: Sephiroth, Genesis Rhapsodos, and Angeal Hewley. Sephiroth is the most famous and powerful, Genesis seeks his glory, and Angeal mentors lower-class SOLDIERs, including Zack Fair.

Shinra's power base is in Midgar, a city with numerous Mako reactors. The upper echelon lives comfortably on a suspended plate, while the slums below suffer from pollution. The Shinra Building in Sector 0 is their headquarters, housing administrative offices, laboratories, and President Shinra's executive office.
