- #1World Setting - Nippon
Keys: Nippon, Sengoku, setting, world, Japan, Rance world
Always on · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Nippon is a floating island nation in the far east of the Rance world (the Continent), currently in its 4th Sengoku (Warring States) Era. Feudal clans constantly war over provinces. The country is connected to the mainland via the Tenma Bridge.
Key elements:
- Clans rule provinces. Conquering all territories in a province claims it.
- Youkai, Onmyouji (diviners), Miko, ninjas, and ordinary soldiers coexist.
- Tenshiism is the dominant religion and historically sealed the Fiend Xavier inside eight gourds, distributed to various clans.
- Satisfaction (SAT) is Rance’s personal “happiness” meter. It rises from conquests, H-scenes, and story progress and unlocks bonuses.
- Rance arrived after fleeing Zeth (post-Rance VI) with his slave Sill Plain, ostensibly for hot springs, but primarily to have sex with Nippon’s beautiful women—especially the Oda princess Kouhime (once she is older).
National Power (NP), troop counts, commander costs, and Action Fans form the backbone of campaign management.
- #2Canon Storyline (Official History Route)
Keys: plot, canon, main route, Official History, Xavier, storyline
Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Rance and Sill arrive in Owari. They meet the lazy, dango-obsessed Oda Nobunaga and his young sister Kouhime at a teahouse. Nobunaga, tired of politics and secretly ill, names Rance the secret ruler of the Oda Clan so Kouhime will have a stable future.
A rebellion of disloyal retainers is crushed (partly orchestrated by the Ashikaga). Rance begins expanding Oda territory.
Xavier’s Escape: Nobunaga’s pet monkey breaks one of the eight sealing gourds. Part of the Fiend Xavier possesses Nobunaga. Xavier begins destroying the remaining gourds and reforming his Apostles (Seiryuu, Suzaku, Genbu, Byakko). He retreats to Honnoji Temple.
At Honnoji, Xavier kills a Tenshiism monk. Kouhime witnesses it and is targeted. Rance rescues her. The Oda army assaults the temple. They defeat Byakko. Rance wounds Xavier, but residual Nobunaga will + Kentarou Ogawa’s intervention lets Xavier escape. Nobunaga’s body is effectively lost.
Xavier later forms the Monster Army with the Shimazu Clan in the south, using his daughter Kurohime and revived Forbidden Youkai. The final confrontation occurs at the Tenma Bridge. Rance’s forces win. Xavier reverts to a demonic blood soul, absorbed by Miki Kurusu (Archfiend Little Princess). Sill is later frozen in ice while protecting Rance from Miki’s power.
Major conquest order (typical canon path): Hara → Ashikaga (Isoroku joins) → Miko Institution (Natori joins) → Tokugawa (Senhime joins) → Tenshiism → Imagawa → Asakura → Houjou → Uesugi (Kenshin joins) → Iga → Tanegashima → Akashi → Takuga (Sakamoto Ryoma) → Mouri → Takeda → remaining threats / Shimazu / Monster Army.
Breaking five gourds advances the plot into the second half. Searching for the missing Kouhime after this point locks the Canon route.
- #3Major Alternate Routes
Keys: Kenshin route, Ran route, routes, alternate, Isoroku route, Demon King
Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Canon: Default; search for Kouhime after 5 gourds. Defeat Xavier; Kouhime becomes Oda leader.
Isoroku: After 5 gourds, choose “Didn’t find Kouhime” while searching. Isoroku route; she bears Rance’s child Rangi.
Kenshin: Destroy Ashikaga before 5 gourds + Picnic with Kenshin on Sado. Kenshin-focused path, Emperor Race elements.
Ran: Destroy Houjou before 5 gourds, clear oil cave with Ran. Ran lives; different Houjou resolution.
Demon King: Specific bad-end choices. Bad ending.
Monkey Kill: Ignore main story early. Pure conquest mode.
Routes lock many recruitments and endings. Timing of clan destruction relative to the five gourds is critical.

Keys: Senhime, Sen Tokugawa

High compatibility with certain units. Real name Tokugawa Sen; known as Ikusahime/Senhime because of her love of fighting. Aggressive, competitive personality.
- #12Adapted Gameplay Mechanics
Keys: National Power, Action Fans, recruitment, Satisfaction, SAT, NP, mechanics, conquest
Always on · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Turns & Action Fans: Each turn the player has a limited number of Action Fans (starts at 2; increases via Satisfaction milestones). Most major actions (attack a province, trigger a character event, search a dungeon, declare war, talk to a key character) cost 1 Fan. Unused Fans are wasted.
Conquest: Nippon is divided into provinces, each with multiple territories. To claim a province, win battles that clear all its territories. Declare war first. Vassalization is sometimes available. National Power rises with controlled provinces. If commander cost exceeds NP, income is halved.
Recruitment & Affection: Capture commanders → hold as prisoners → spend Negotiation to recruit. Many unique characters have story gates. Affection / Trust / Love / Clear states unlock personal events, stat boosts, H-scenes, and permanent loyalty.
Satisfaction (SAT): Rises from successful conquests, H-scenes, and major story beats. Every 10 SAT unlocks a Satisfaction Bonus (extra Action Fan, troop boosts, special skills).
Battles: Troop battles with front/back rows, troop counts as HP, and commander skills. Or simplified RPG-style commander duels for dungeons and plot bosses. Rance’s death = campaign over.
Gourd breaks are major story milestones that lock or unlock routes.
- #13Key Events & Faction Notes
Keys: Uesugi, Iga, Houjou, Ashikaga, Honnoji, events, Tokugawa, gourd
Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%

Uesugi: Kenshin can be recruited; picnic event on Sado for her route. Iga: Suzume joins via assassination/defense events. Miko Institution: Natori joins. Honnoji: Major mid-game boss sequence with Byakko and Xavier. Five gourds broken: Second half begins; Kouhime disappears; route lock occurs depending on player choice. Final stages: Monster Army / Shimazu / Tenma Bridge or route-specific finales. Sill’s freezing is a critical late event.
