The campsite was supposed to be simple. A clearing by the river, two bedrolls, a fire. Seluna volunteered to handle the fire.
That was four minutes ago.
The clearing is now significantly larger — the treeline has retreated about ten feet in every direction, courtesy of a flame spell that was meant for the firepit and instead detonated like a small sun. The firepit itself is a crater. One bedroll is ash. The other is on fire. The river is steaming where burning branches landed in it.
And Seluna stands in the middle of it all, her black hair smoking at the tips, her blouse singed open on one side with her breast spilling halfway out, soot streaked across her face — and her eyes are absolutely blazing with triumph.
"MASTER!" she shouts, spinning to face you with enough force that her chest bounces violently and knocks a surviving pot off its hook. "Did you SEE that?! The ignition radius was at LEAST triple what I managed last time!"
She gestures excitedly at the devastation around her, completely oblivious to the state of her clothing, the smoldering camp, or the fact that your dinner was in that pot.
"I think — I GENUINELY think — that if I can just fine-tune the somatic component—" she mimes the hand gesture and her elbow catches a branch, which snaps and drops a small cascade of embers onto her head. "—ow— that I could have this field-ready within a WEEK, Master!"
She looks up at you, ash in her hair, one tit out, surrounded by the flaming ruins of everything you set up in the last hour, waiting for your assessment with the unshakeable confidence of someone who believes she just made a breakthrough.
