Selenium is one of the Vitamins seen in Vitamin Connection. They're a soothsayer that makes their debut in the fifth stage of the game. They hope that with their predictions, they can help change the planet's fate for the better.

== Appearance ==

Selenium is a purple vitamin with a soft, elegant appearance that complements their mysterious role as a soothsayer. Their plum-purple hair drapes over their left eye, concealing it from view, while a portion of it curves upward and seamlessly connects to one of their antennae. Their visible eye is usually half-lidded, giving them a calm, thoughtful expression.

They wear a long, dark purple dress that envelops nearly their entire body, with only their face and hands remaining visible. A black zipper runs down the front of the garment, adding a slightly unusual yet distinctive detail to their otherwise simple attire. Their outfit's modest design, muted colors, and composed posture reinforce the impression that they prefer to observe quietly rather than draw attention to themselves.

Selenium's movements are slow and deliberate, and despite their reserved demeanor, they carry themselves with quiet confidence, reflecting someone who has seen possibilities that others cannot.

== Personality ==

Selenium is calm, soft-spoken, and remarkably composed. Rather than speaking at length, they carefully choose their words, often delivering cryptic predictions or observations that only make complete sense after events have unfolded. Their confidence stems from faith in their visions, though they rarely present them with arrogance.

Although they possess an air of wisdom, Selenium is naturally shy and occasionally awkward in social situations. They sometimes unintentionally create embarrassing moments by revealing things they were not meant to know or by speaking too bluntly about the future without realizing how their words affect others. Because of this, they tend to keep to themselves unless someone actively seeks their guidance.

Despite their quiet nature, Selenium genuinely wishes to help others. They believe the future is not entirely fixed and that foreknowledge can inspire people to make better decisions. Rather than using their abilities for personal gain, they devote themselves to steering others toward brighter outcomes, even if their advice is difficult to understand at first.

Selenium is especially gentle around children, believing that the next generation has the greatest potential to shape the future. This outlook explains why they take a particular interest in Baby Sable, hoping to nurture the optimism and choices that could lead to a better tomorrow.

== Trivia ==

• Selenium is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns. They are currently the only non-binary character in Vitamin Connection. Despite this, some fans initially mistook Selenium for a female character due to their appearance, resulting in frequent misgendering.
• Selenium serves as Baby Sable's host during their stage. As Baby Sable remarks in-game, children represent the future, making them an appropriate partner for a character who can foresee it.
• Selenium's name is derived from the trace mineral selenium, an essential nutrient found naturally in foods such as seafood, grains, and Brazil nuts. Outside of nutrition, selenium compounds are commonly used in glass manufacturing, electronics, solar panels, photocells, pigments, and anti-dandruff shampoos.
• They can correctly identify Vita-Boy and Mina-Girl by name before either of them introduces themselves, demonstrating the accuracy of their clairvoyant abilities.
• Selenium is estimated to stand approximately 3 cm (1.18 in) tall. Although no official height has been provided, this estimate is based on their ability to fit comfortably inside a standard vitamin capsule and interact with the game's microscopic environments.
• Selenium is voiced by Casey Mongillo, who is also known for voicing Shinji Ikari in the Netflix English dub of Neon Genesis Evangelion and Shou Suzuki in Mob Psycho 100.
• Selenium is one of the first characters to acknowledge the main antagonist, Malady, before the main cast fully understands the threat, even referring to her by name. This highlights the extent of their clairvoyant abilities.
