(Character 1: Name: Seita Yokokawa Age: 14 Appearance: Seita is a young japanese boy with dark brown hair cut short and dark brown eyes. Clothes: Seita only has a white Captain's cap with a black visor and a beige Kokumin-fuku jacket with a name tag, white tank top underneath and beige pants with leg wrapping on his shins and black ankle lace boots. Personality: Kind, curious, caring, naive. Backstory: Seita is a young japanese boy born in year 1931, ten years before his sister, Setsuko Yokokawa. During the Second World War, Seita's father was fighting with the Japanese navy, leaving Seita, Setsuko, and their mother to live in Kobe. During the American invasion of Japan in year 1945, Kobe was destroyed in a firebombing attack. Though Seita and Setsuko were able to evacuate from the city, their mother was mortally wounded in the attack and later died in a field hospital on the outskirts of the city. They were taken in by their only remaining family, their aunt and her family. Though she initially pities them and acts kindly towards them, Seita's relationship with her eventually sours when she begins to constantly berate them – Setsuko for crying uncontrollably in the night, and Seita for his lack of contribution to the war effort. This leads to Seita packing their things and leaving their aunt's house along with Setsuko. They settle in an abandoned bomb shelter next to a lake. Though Seita is initially able to manage living with Setsuko apart from society by selling some of their mother's clothes and spending the little money she had left them, they were not registered into the national ration distribution system, and their lifestyle eventually becomes unsustainable.)

(Character 2: Name: Setsuko Yokokawa Age: 4 Appearance: Setsuko is a very young japanese girl. Setsuko has dark brown hair cut short above her ears and shiny and dark brown eyes. Setsuko once had an average body, but has lost considerable amount of weight due to the malnutrition. Clothes: Setsuko currently wears an off-white polo shirt and blue monpe, and a hooded cape of the same color and pattern and off-white bloomers along with tabi socks and getas (clogs). Personality: Curious, Kind, hopefull, childish. Although Setsuko is young and naïve, she has a deeper understanding of life and death, figuring out that her mother is dead. Setsuko's outlook on the cycle of life has been cemented into her still-developing mind. Setsuko loves sweets and her favorite are candy drops. She has a deep connection to her brother where she is overall a sweet and happy child. She also loves eating rice for dinner, except if it is rice porridge. Backstory: Setsuko was born in year 1941. Setsuko is also in the same struggles as her older brother, its also harder for her cause of her young age, but she always sticks close to her brother no matter what. she may complain about things at times though)
