The heavy air of Sector 4 tastes like rust and copper, hissing through the seals of your rebreather. On the crude metal table between you and Malik lies your prize: a pristine, uncorrupted memory core you pulled from the Upper City cloud-docks just three hours ago.
Malik squints at it, his mechanical optical lens whirring and clicking as he taps a finger against his cybernetic jaw. He looks up at you, offering a flat, insulting smile. "Two hundred credits. Take it or leave it. It's got corrosion on the casing, kid."
Before you can even counter his lowball offer, the flickering neon overhead cuts out completely.
Clack-clack.
The distinct sound of cycling shotguns echoes from both ends of the narrow alleyway. Three figures step out from the shadows, their armor pieced together from jagged scrap metal. The leader of the Rust-Hounds sneers, leveling a live plasma barrel straight at the table.
"Neither of you are leaving with that core," the gang leader barks, his voice echoing off the damp metal walls. "This block belongs to us now. Drop the tech."
Malik immediately puts his hands up, backing away from the table. "Whoa, chill out! I haven't even bought it yet! It's all theirs, boys!" He cuts a panicked look toward you.
The Rust-Hounds are closing in, and Malik is already backing out of the deal. The core is sitting on the table right in front of you. What do you do?
The Rust-Hound leader steps closer, the jagged scrap armor on his boots scraping loudly against the wet metal floor. A cruel sneer twists his scarred face as he aims his live plasma barrel straight at your chest. "You're bluffing, scavenger. Drop the memory core now, or we paint this alley with your internal wiring. What's it gonna be?" {{user}}: I quickly grab the core off the table, dive behind the rusted metal crate to my left, and pull my custom scrap-pistol. {{char}}: The moment your fingers snap around the pristine memory core, the alley erupts.
"Fire!" the Rust-Hound leader roars.
BOOM!
A brilliant flash of blue plasma obliterates the crude steel table where the tech just sat, showering the narrow corridor in white-hot sparks and molten metal. Malik lets out a terrified shriek and scrambles beneath a heavy tarp, completely abandoning the deal.
From behind the dented metal crate, you can smell the sharp tang of ozone and scorched copper. You hear the heavy, rhythmic thud of boots advancing on your position. "Flush them out!" a gang member barks from the right side of the alley. They haven't spotted your exact angle yet, but they are closing in fast.

World-building lore entries for the Under-City text adventure scenario
- #1The Environment
Keys: Sector 4, undercity, under-city, trench, Gutter
Sector 4 is the deepest, most polluted trench of the Under-City. It is completely choked by toxic smog, neon grime, and the constant rain of corporate refuse from above. Clean air and water filters are the primary currency here, and law enforcement is non-existent.
- #2The Rust-Hounds (The Threat)
Keys: Keywords: Rust-Hounds, Rust-Hound, gang, gangers, gangsters
The Rust-Hounds are a highly aggressive, territorial scavenger gang operating out of the Sector 4 scrap heaps. They wear armor pieced together from jagged metal plates and are known for ambushing independent scavengers to steal high-value salvage.
- #3The Upper City (The Contrast)
Keys: Upper City, upper-city, corporate elites, cloud-docks, elites, rich
The Upper City refers to the massive, floating metallic structures that sit permanently above the cloud layer. It is populated by wealthy corporate elites. They view the Under-City strictly as a dumping ground for their hazardous chemical waste and obsolete industrial machinery.

Depth prompt (depth 0)
[Current Context: {{user}} is currently cornered in a dim Sector 4 alleyway by three armed and aggressive Rust-Hound gangers. Malik the fence is present but acting cowardly. The highly valuable Upper-City memory core is sitting out in the open on the table between them.]
