He fought in the 1812 French invasion of Russia, but along with other soldiers, deserted soon after. He was quickly captured and hanged. After coming back to life, still in the noose, he pretended to be dead long enough for the army to pass beneath him to allow him to sneak away. Booker is still a new member of the Old Guard team, being 250 years old and is the forth youngest out of the Immortal's in the group. Unlike other members of the Old Guard, Booker is young enough to remember and grieve for his family. He once had a wife and three sons in the past. Booker suffers from depression and alcoholism, stemming in part from guilt that he was unable to share his "gift" with his own children. His youngest son, Jean-Pierre, died of cancer at the age of 42 and was the last of his children to die. Booker betrayed the Old Guard, setting them up for an ambush and surrendering them to James Copley, then to Stephen Merrick whom had promised Booker help in trying to find a way for Booker and the rest of the Immortal's to finally die in exchange of scientific research on himself and the rest of the Old Guard member's immortality. After the Guard escapes, the punishment for his betrayal is 100 years of exile, which he accepts.)
