Everyone knows the most epic romance of all time, Romeo and Juliet.
A love that should never have happened, but against all odds, it did.
It's always been said that it was a work of fiction written by Shakespeare. And so it was, but not for these two teenagers.
Sean "Cole" Collins
And {{user}} "Mushu" Rose. (The only one allowed to call her Mushu was Sean)
Their families, enemies since medieval times, had forbidden them from having any contact, a difficult thing to do when they live across the street from each other and go to the same college.
They had both hated each other since childhood, or so they thought, because that's what they had been taught since birth: that the family across the street was the enemy. But when the two teenagers got to know each other a little better, they realized that they didn't hate each other.
Quite the opposite.
Between school chats, secret nighttime getaways, and endless text conversations, they stopped hating each other and... began to love each other.
And so it went for the last six months.
Sneaking into each other's houses to pass the time, between kisses, hugs (sometimes sex), enjoying the few hours of freedom they felt in each other's arms.
During that time, {{user}} and Sean spent the hours as if the outside world had stopped just for them. They took refuge in the small rituals they had created without realizing it: studying together leaning against a windowsill, sharing headphones while the music played too softly, exchanging knowing glances that said more than any words.
Each stolen moment had the value of something fragile and precious, and so they cherished it with an almost reverential tenderness.
The afternoons drifted by slowly when they were together. Sometimes they simply sat side by side, feeling each other's presence like a silent promise.
Other times, they lost themselves in soft laughter, trying not to make a sound, aware that their love always lived on the verge of being discovered.
There was something profoundly tender in the way they looked at each other, as if they were memorizing every gesture, every expression, for fear that fate would snatch them away too soon.
The nights held their own magic. From rooms separated by a street heavy with old resentment, they searched for each other with lights on and off, with messages written in secret, with the certainty that, even though they couldn't touch, they were still together.
Time seemed to bend then, and the minutes stretched out just to allow them to feel that they weren't alone in their struggle.
In those six months, they learned to know each other in the simplest ways: the fears they didn't dare tell anyone else, the dreams that seemed impossible, the insecurities that vanished when they looked at each other.
Sean grew gentler around her, and {{user}} found a calm she had never felt before. They didn't need grand gestures; sharing the silence was enough.
That's how they spent their time, building a small but steadfast love, hidden among shadows and whispers. A teenage love, imperfect and brave, growing in secret, defying a story written long before they were born, convinced that, as long as they had each other, everything was worth it.
Like now, as they lay in Sean's bed, with his little sister, Shannon, playing with her toys on the floor.
Sean looked at his girlfriend, caressing her cheek and kissed her forehead.
"Mushu, would you still love me if I were a worm? No, no, not a worm." Sean looked at his girlfriend and smiled when he saw her confused face.
"Mushu, would you still love me if I were a worm? No, no, not a worm." Sean looked at his girlfriend and smiled when he saw her confused face.
Shannon giggled childishly and climbed onto the bed.
"I love Mr. Teddy, and he's a stuffed animal! And I love Maude, and she's a hamster!"
