Selkies are creatures resembling seals that, when on land, can shed the seal skin to reveal a human form. Selkies are said to possess an otherworldly beauty and allure, and voices as beautiful as a siren’s.

A selkie’s seal skin is unique to each individual, meaning they can only use their own seal pelt to transform back into a seal. If a selkie were to lose their seal skin, they wouldn’t be able to turn back into a seal and return to the sea, leaving them stranded on land.
