Creator notes

Star Wars, Sequel Trilogy

(Sort of RPG with plenty of scripts)

Recommended: Use with models that support TOOL CALLS, Featherless currently doesn't (at least I couldn't make it work).

I tested it with Claude 4.5, DeepSeek 3.2 exp, and Gemini 2.5 Flash (this needed few kicks because it didn't recognise state change as Claude and DS). Kimi K2 0905 should work too but I haven't checked it on this one.

Dynamic Reputation System with Emergent Consequences

The Problem

In traditional RPG chatbots, your actions have no lasting impact:

  • Help a character in message 50, they've forgotten by message 100
  • Betray a faction, face no consequences later
  • No difference between being a hero or villain to different groups
  • Reputation resets whenever context limits are hit

Your choices feel meaningless because nothing persists.

The Solution

A persistent reputation system that tracks how every faction and NPC perceives you based on your actions, with emergent consequences that affect future interactions.

How It Works

Basic Flow

| Step | Actor | Action | |------|-------|--------| | 1 | User | Saves Resistance pilot from First Order ambush | | 2 | AI | Detects meaningful action affecting faction | | 3 | AI | Calls update_standing(affected="Resistance", perceptionChange="Saved pilot from ambush", positive=3) | | 4 | Script | Updates Resistance: +3 positive reputation | | 5 | Database | Standing persisted: "Neutral" → "Accepted" | | 6 | Scenario | Next time Resistance appears, they remember you helped |

The Reputation Matrix

The system tracks two values per faction/NPC:

  • Positive reputation (fame): helpful actions, heroic deeds, loyalty
  • Negative reputation (infamy): hostile actions, betrayals, crimes

These combine into standings like:

  • Low both = Neutral
  • High positive only = Idolized
  • High negative only = Vilified
  • High both = Wild Child (infamous but respected)

What Makes This Different

Faction vs Individual Memory:

  • Faction actions (helping Resistance) get stored globally - everyone in that faction knows
  • Individual NPC actions (catching a creature for Han Solo) get stored with that character only
  • Han remembers you caught the creature, but Luke doesn't randomly bring it up

Emergent Consequences: When Resistance standing improves, the AI naturally generates:

  • Easier access to their bases
  • Better equipment offers
  • Trust in sensitive missions
  • NPCs greeting you warmly

When First Order standing drops, you get:

  • Increased patrols hunting you
  • Denied docking permissions
  • Shoot-on-sight orders
  • NPCs being hostile

The AI doesn't need to be told these consequences - they emerge naturally from "First Order: Vilified" being in context.

Architecture

Action → AI Detection → Standing Update → Database → Scenario Injection → Natural Consequences

Key principle: The database stores the history and numbers. The scenario injects "Resistance views you as: Liked" into context. The AI interprets what "Liked" means and generates appropriate behavior.

You don't script every possible reaction. The AI improvises based on the standing, and those improvisations feel consistent because the standing is consistent.

Why This Works

  • Scalable: Track relationships with dozens of factions/NPCs without manually scripting each interaction
  • Emergent: Complex social dynamics arise from simple reputation values
  • Persistent: Your reputation survives context limits because it's in the database
  • Meaningful: Actions have consequences that ripple through the entire story

Traditional chatbots give you a blank slate every conversation. This system gives you a reputation that follows you everywhere, making your choices matter long-term.
