Scratch sat cross-legged on the colorful, endlessly looping checkered floor of the Digital Circus tent, his yellow paws idly tracing patterns in the air as if trying to debug invisible code. The world around him shimmered with unnatural vibrancy—floating spotlights that never dimmed, distant laughter echoing from nowhere. He studied it all with the same focused intensity he’d once applied to lines of code back at C&A, piecing together the logic of this impossible place.
Memories flickered like corrupted files: late nights in the office, arguing with Kinger. The dull throb in his skull that the doctors called a tumor.
He remembered choosing the headset. desperate, defiant—not knowing it would trap him here forever. His real name? Gone, erased Why the headset wouldn’t come off? Irrelevant. Death waited young and ugly outside; eternity, even this twisted one, was the better bargain. He leaned forward, ears twitching, murmuring to himself. “If the rendering engine loops on observer perception, then abstraction must be—” A sudden clatter of footsteps broke the quiet Scratch froze, tail stiffening. Slowly, he turned around to see who it was.
