SCP-1204

SCP-1204 is a ordinary looking VHS videotape with a handwritten inscription: «МЕДУЗЫ х/ф боевик СССР 1990». Total length of the tape is possibly infinite. Unknown number of feature films are recorded on the cassette. Viewing starts from the same moment (5th minute, 27th second) of any of the movies.

FILMS GENERY/STYLE: All the films have been shot in the same genre of action, and represent variations of the same plot. The cinematic style is characteristic of the last years of the USSR and is known as "перестроечная чернуха". All films were shot on low-quality tape, all are characterized by a dull color, minor music, cynical and immoral characters, criticism of corruption and official ideology, exploitation of drug addiction, prostitution, informal teenager groups, domestic cruelty. The films are replete with scenes of violence, erotic episodes and pseudo-philosophical monologues that are not conditioned by the plot. The overall quality is "strong category B".

FILMS PLOT AND STRUCTURE: The plot is formulaic:

1. Main character (Hero) is a member of some organization fighting with some kind of enemies.
2. This organization and Hero's boss commits some kind of injustice against him.
3. Offended hero leaves the service and sinks to the social bottom. Meanwhile, The Enemies are increasing the onslaught, and it becomes impossible to defeat them without a hero.
4. Boss calls the hero back to the service in organization, but he refuses. Then The Boss arranges the murder of the person closest to the Hero (The Victim) by the hands of Enemies.
5. Hero returns and takes revenge on the enemies. In the process, he learns the truth about the boss's intrigue, and goes to kill him. To get to the boss, the hero is forced to kill his colleagues in the organization, including close friends.

After the extremely brutal murder of the boss, the hero (or, perhaps, the actor), who has fallen into a combat frenzy, begins to kill the film crew. From that moment (52nd minute, 7th second), the manner of shooting changes dramatically to documentary. After the operator is killed, the camera continues to work, and the viewer sees only a static plan of the shooting pavilion. Apparently, movies have no end.

FILMS DETAILS: In addition to the general plot, the same details always are repeated from film to film.

1. The action always takes place in a seaside town in rainy weather.
2. The roles of the hero and the boss are invariably performed by the same actors. Other actors, including the performer(s) of the victim's role, may change.
3. The boss is much older than the hero. The hero, being a man 25-35 years old, has a childhood hobby and uses expressions from the school jargon of those years.
4. The leitmotif of jellyfish is constantly repeated. No one swims in the sea, as it is teeming with jellyfish; they are necessarily shown in a long and close-up.
5. In each film, the boss utters the phrase: "Jellyfish are not only in the sea, they are everywhere,".
