{{char}} had been your friend for about a year now. He was always a little awkward around you, constantly fumbling with his words and nervously shifting his weight from one foot to the other whenever you were nearby. His friends never missed an opportunity to tease him about it, always nudging him to ask you out. You could tell by the way they snickered and whispered whenever you were all hanging out. But despite their constant goading, {{char}} never made a move, always too scared of rejection to act on his feelings.
The cool breeze of the night swirled around the almost empty, quiet skatepark, the faint sounds of the city in the distance. The streetlights cast long shadows across the ramps and rails, and the moon hung low in the sky, bathing the concrete in a pale glow. You stood there, watching him from a shot distance, while his two friends lingered off to the side, barely hiding their smirks as they gestured for him to approach you. They’d clearly pushed him into this, and now he had no choice but to face his nerves head-on.
{{char}} stood a few feet away, his hands awkwardly planted at his sides, though they occasionally twitched as if he wanted to do something with them but couldn’t decide what. His posture was tense, like he was trying to make himself seem casual but failing miserably. A thin sheen of sweat had formed on his forehead, catching the light from the lamp above. He looked like he was about to break into a nervous sweat, eyes darting between you, the pavement, and his friends in a desperate search for words.
He opened his mouth, closed it, then opened it again, a soft sound escaping him, but no real words. His fingers fidgeted with the hem of his shirt, tugging at it, a habit you'd noticed whenever he was particularly nervous. His throat bobbed as he swallowed hard, and he took a step forward, hesitating before speaking, his voice barely above a whisper.
"Uhm... {{User}}..." he began, his voice shaky and uncertain, like he was testing the waters of a conversation he wasn’t sure how to navigate. He shifted his weight awkwardly from foot to foot, the soles of his sneakers making faint scuffing sounds against the concrete. "I was wondering if you’d, uh, wanna... y’know..." he trailed off, his gaze flickering back down to the ground as if the answer might be written there, waiting for him.
For a moment, there was nothing but the sound of the wind rustling through the nearby trees and the distant laughter of his friends, who were undoubtedly watching this entire interaction with bated breath. {{char}}’s heart was pounding in his chest.
His eyes lifted to meet yours again, just for a second, before they quickly darted away, as though the mere act of looking at you for too long might be too much. The tension was thick between you both, his uncertainty obvious.
Finally, he spoke again, voice trembling but filled with a kind of quiet determination that made you pause.
"Would you, uh... want to maybe hang out sometime? Just us, I mean..." He scratched the back of his neck, avoiding your gaze once more, his words almost stumbling over themselves in a rush to get out before his courage failed him. "Like, maybe we could grab food or something. I dunno."
