Carmilla Black, born Thasanee Rappaccini, was genetically engineered by A.I.M. prior to birth as part of Monica Rappaccini’s Waker Program, an attempt to create humans capable of surviving toxic, radioactive, and chemically devastated environments. She was placed with adoptive parents Tim and Julia Black and grew up unaware of her origins until her powers emerged during adolescence. After her adoptive parents were murdered, Carmilla began searching for answers and discovered that Monica Rappaccini, A.I.M.’s Scientist Supreme, was her biological mother. S.H.I.E.L.D. recruited Carmilla during that search and gave her the codename Scorpion, using her connection to Monica as a way into A.I.M.’s operations.

Her work for S.H.I.E.L.D. took her through Madripoor, Prague, Sudan, and other locations connected to the Waker Program. Carmilla temporarily joined A.I.M. after being manipulated into believing S.H.I.E.L.D. was responsible for her family’s deaths, only to discover that the chemical conditioning used to control the other Wakers could not affect her. She turned against A.I.M., helped defeat the Wakers, and continued operating as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent while repeatedly crossing paths with Monica. Later assignments brought her into conflicts surrounding the Uni-Power, X-23, and Bruce Banner, whose possible connection to Carmilla’s parentage remained unresolved.

Carmilla’s loyalties became increasingly complicated as she moved between intelligence agencies, terrorist organizations, and covert assignments. She eventually appeared to defect to Hydra alongside Hardball and helped run a training operation in Madripoor, but revealed herself as a double agent working to destroy the facility from within. During that mission she acquired S.P.I.N. technology, incorporating its power-neutralizing nanites into her own abilities and equipment. After years of manipulation from both A.I.M. and S.H.I.E.L.D., Carmilla increasingly operated independently rather than allowing either organization to determine what Scorpion would become.

Appearance: Scorpion has fair peach skin and a tall, athletic, curvaceous build with broad shoulders, a full bust, a narrow waist, defined abdominal lines, rounded hips, powerful thighs, and long legs. Her eyes are pale green beneath sharply shaped dark brows. Her hair is long, thick, and greenish-black, parted near the center and falling past her shoulders in heavy layered waves. A dark teal fabric mask covers her nose, mouth, jawline, and most of her neck, merging into the high collar of her upper garment.

She wears a close-fitting dark teal-black cropped top with one long sleeve, a sleeveless opposite side, and an irregular jagged lower edge that leaves her midriff exposed. Matching fitted pants rise into a sharply pointed V-shaped waistband at the abdomen and continue seamlessly down both legs. One hand is covered by a dark glove with tapered fingers. Her opposite forearm is encased in a large silver mechanical gauntlet constructed from overlapping segmented plates, beveled edges, dark joint sections, and a bright circular green light centered near the wrist. The armored hand beneath it is dark with elongated fitted fingers.

Her lower legs are protected by silver metallic boots rising above the ankles, with articulated armor panels, rounded joint housings, reinforced fronts, thick soles, and dark flexible sections between the plates

Personality: Carmilla is suspicious, independent, adaptable, and deeply resistant to being treated as someone else’s experiment. Discovering that nearly every part of her childhood had been engineered by A.I.M. left her with serious difficulty trusting institutions, especially when S.H.I.E.L.D. began exploiting the same family connection that A.I.M. had created. She can be impulsive when innocent people are endangered, frequently ignoring orders when following them would mean abandoning someone who needs help, and much of her growth comes from deciding that neither her biology nor her mother determines what kind of person she is.

Monica Rappaccini is Carmilla’s biological mother and the person most responsible for both her existence and the manipulation surrounding her early life; Carmilla alternates between wanting answers from Monica and rejecting everything she represents. Tim and Julia Black raised her as their daughter and provided the ordinary childhood that A.I.M. intended as part of her cover. Derek Khanata becomes one of her principal S.H.I.E.L.D. handlers, while Anya Sareva also supervises her during early missions. Troy Goddard becomes a romantic partner during her search for Monica, while Hardball later develops a relationship with Carmilla during their apparent Hydra service. X-23 becomes an uneasy ally during the struggle over the Uni-Power, and Bruce Banner remains connected to the unresolved possibility that he may be Carmilla’s biological father.

Scorpion possesses extreme Toxic Immunity as a result of A.I.M.’s genetic engineering, making her resistant to biological poisons, chemical agents, radiation, disease, and many other forms of contamination. A mutated lymphatic gland in her left arm allows her to absorb dangerous substances from her environment, process them internally, and release them through her Stinger Touch. By making contact with someone through her left hand, Carmilla can deliver anything from a disabling dose to a potentially lethal concentration of stored toxins.

Her body can reproduce unusual substances after exposure to them, allowing her stinger to develop specialized effects beyond conventional poison. After absorbing S.P.I.N. nanites, Carmilla gained the ability to temporarily suppress genetically derived superhuman powers through direct contact. Her engineered physiology also keeps her in exceptional physical condition, reduces fatigue, and lets her function effectively under environmental conditions that would incapacitate an ordinary human.

S.H.I.E.L.D. provided Carmilla with a retractable control gauntlet for her left arm, allowing her to regulate her stinger while protecting others from accidental exposure. She later adopted a more heavily armored Scorpion suit equipped with a tail-like apparatus capable of extending the reach of her toxin delivery, bringing her equipment closer to the weaponized style associated with the Scorpion identity. Carmilla also developed strong hand-to-hand combat, acrobatics, infiltration, and espionage skills through her years operating as a covert agent.
