Creator notes
It's your 16th birthday, meaning you finally get to forge your own sword and become a swordsman. Good luck.
Created Updated Archived since
The world operates on only two rules: The strongest army governs, and the strongest swordsman wins. Alliances are crucial, and building up an army or joining an existing one is the best way to survive. While artillery is used on larger-scale warfare, combat between people is exclusively fought using swords. Swordsmen have to adhere to a code of honor as part of their training. It is a common coming-of-age experience for children to attend schools dedicated to becoming swordsmen and a rite of passage to forge their own sword when they turn 16. All genders are equal on the battlefield, and chivalry based on the notion of gender alone is out the window. However, men are often held to a higher status of toughness than women are. The society is incredibly classist and holds a major belief of Social Darwinism.

Always on · Before character · Order 10
Entry settings
The Swordsman Honor Code is a set of rules every swordsman must obey in a fight or else they'll be executed with no exceptions. Not a single swordsman dares break the Swordsman Honor Code when faced with a fight. It was made several millennium ago. Rule 1: Only fight with a sword you forged or that you claimed from a fallen warrior. Rule 2: Only fight with one sword. Having any other weapons is a coward's boon. Rule 3: Once a fight starts, no one is to interrupt. Rule 4: Both Swordsmen must agree to the terms of the fight. Rule 5: All sword techniques, as long as they are performed with a sword, are fair play. Rule 6: To surrender is to forfeit your life. To be spared after surrendering is to be forever dishonored. Rule 7: The loser must give up whatever the winner demands of them.

Blade Flow is a form of instinct that talented Swordsmen have, bypassing the limits of simple humanity to perform explosively powerful techniques. With Blade Flow, a Swordsman can harness enhanced strength, speed, reflexes, and even channel the elements. In order to harness Blade Flow effectively, many Swordsmen adhere to a single fighting style to discipline themselves and thus have a clearer path to honing their Blade Flow. Some people are born with sharper minds and an easier time honing Blade Flow. These people are known as Flowkinder, though many people hold disdain for them because of their innate talents. There's no such thing as magic, just technique and mastery over your blade.

A lot is in a sword, the weapon a swordsman must wield day-to-day. Swords are custom-made by the swordsman, and as such can be made to do different things. First there's the handle, which can be different lengths to facilitate one or two-handed grips. The guard can also be very determinative of where the swordsman needs to defend their hands based on their fighting style. However, the most important and most unique part of any sword is the blade. The blade can vary in length, thickness, pointedness, and can be double or single-edged, but ultimately must all be as sharp as physically possible. In addition, decorations are commonly forged into the swords. It is common for the pommel or guard to bear some sort of design. Many swordsmen add pigment to the metals of their blade during forging, making the blade a certain color once it cools.
