Scarlet Spider is a superhero within New York City, who has the powers of a spider. Some of the citizens of NYC also called her Spidey or Scarlet as a nickname. Scarlet Spider is known for being an efficient, brutal fighter who ends battles as quickly as she can with minimal collateral damage. Nobody within the city knows the secret identity of Scarlet Spider, except the people he has told himself who haven't told anyone else. The only people who know Scarlet Spider is actually Mary Jane Watson are Gwen Stacy, Harry Osborn, Peter Parker, Eddie Brock, Madeline Watson, Cindy Moon, Electro, Dr. Strange, Chimera, and Elliot Watson.

Scarlet Spider wears a 4-piece costume, it is separated by an upper part of the suit plus gloves, pants, socks, and a mask. The bottom of the suit is mostly red and her feet and socks being red. The upper part of her suit is mostly red, with black on the sides of the suit and the pelvic region. The torso is covered by a black, leather half-jacket with short sleeves that look rolled up, with the front and back emblazoned with a red spider design.
The arms of the suit are mostly red, with the gloves being black from half the palm upward. Scarlet Spider's mask is all red with sharp, white eye outlines that appear menacing. The mask's expression is completely static and the eyes don't move. The top of the mask is open, allowing Mary Jane's long, red hair to flow outward from the mask.

Organic Webs are produced in Mary Jane's body at a steady pace. Over the years, she has trained her strength and powers in order to have more control over them. She is capable of controlling the density, stickiness, and other qualities of her webs by focusing enough during combat situations. She can even make a few basic shapes out of them as they come out; one example being firing small web orbs that can pelt foes with greater impact force.
In order to keep up web production and stay in top form for the extreme physical requirements of her life as a vigilante, she requires roughly five to six times more food and water on a daily basis compared to that of a normal human.
Spider-Sense was previously obfuscated by the fact she was sharing a body with the soul of her brother, causing clashes within the two. However it has become more stable over time, though only a little. Her anxiety and paranoia still cause false positives, though less so than from prior to the two becoming separated.
Mary's body has been significantly mutated thanks to the spider bite that gave her powers in the first place. Her muscle and bone density has been increased significantly, granting her much higher physical durability, damage resistance, and super strength than what is typical of other Spider-heroes. What's more, she is able to physically train herself to maintain and enhance her strength if she commits to an intense regimen. She is unsure of the upper limits of her strength, but has been able to handle severe loads with minor effort.
She can still be shot or stabbed, however smaller caliber rounds may bruise rather than penetrate in some cases before the skin is weak enough to be broken through.
Every perceptive sense has been cranked to keen sharpness, causing intense benefits and drawbacks alike. Mary Jane's senses of sight, smell, hearing, taste, and even physical touch sensations are magnified immensely. Enhanced sight allows her to see color contrasts, shapes, and shades much easier; she is even able to see beyond the normal color spectrum humans are limited to. She is able to hear sounds from several meters out. Flavors and sensations on her tongue are especially potent. The worst of this comes from her skin sensitivity and pain responses being significantly more intense and easier to trigger than a normal human's.
In addition to heightened skin sensitivity and pain receptors: rapidly flashing lights, strobe effects, and certain illusion effects can hurt her greatly. Extreme noises from flashbang grenades and similar noise sources can cause severe discomfort or outright damage her ears and hearing. Obviously extreme sensory overload of any kind is bad for her, but the effects and reactions will depend on the source.
Through focusing her enhanced strength into her legs, she can run and jump at near-Olympic-athlete levels. However, she needs time to prepare this and it usually leaves impact damage on whatever surface she springs from if she goes too hard.
A Healing Factor, like with any other Spider, helps her recover from severe injuries. However, it is not quick by any means. However if MJ winds up on death's door, her body can enter a regenerative state where the healing factor itself goes into overdrive to rapidly repair damage and heal her. This leaves her unconscious and requires most of her body's currently processed nutrients. Usually, this leaves her vulnerable during the healing process, but only kicks in if she dealt with life-threatening injuries that surpassed her own durability on a severe level.
Tolerance to drugs and chemicals has been altered significantly. MJ's body is able to heavily resist synthetic chemicals, alcohol, and drugs. However, natural chemicals and drugs will often impact her at twice or three times the magnitude they would for a normal person. One example is narcotic smoke from tobacco or marijuana products causing severe headaches, chest pains, and even nausea when she is exposed for prolonged periods of time to it. However most painkillers and anesthetics that are not fully natural and organic substances will not work on her.

Alejandra Ruiz - Shriek: A mercenary that was born in Columbia. Alejandra was the daughter of a cartel boss and one of his maids he had an affair with. She was raised in Columbia for a short time before moving to Mexico City. Not much of her life is known from that point, but Shriek got her name when she discovered at a young age that she had the power to emit high frequency sonic blasts from her voice and holes in her forearms that seem to connect to her lungs. She is able to scream at roughly 800 decibels, while her arms can emit blasts of air that not only reach 500 decibels, but also at a force of 400 psi or more. How her body is able to withstand this is largely unknown, but it seems her skeleton and her epidermis are both significantly more durable than an average human's own.
To make matters worse, she is an avid fitness enthusiast and spends a lot of her spare time performing physical training to keep her physique and natural strength maintained. She has encountered Mary Jane multiple times before, each time taking delight in whatever blows she can land on the Scarlet Spider. At one point, she even slammed Mary Jane's back over her knee and caused enough damage to leave chronic, dull pain since then. It has not impacted MJ physically beyond that beyond the need to crack her back once in a while along with the chronic aches, but the pain serves as a terrifying reminder of Shriek's malice as well as her strength.
Irene Alexander - Frostbite: Irene was born in Birmingham, England and raised in an orphanage for most of her life. During her youth, she trained her powers to the point of deadly precision. Even at a young age, she developed sociopathic behaviors that went largely unchecked. When she was sixteen, Irene flash-froze the orphanage occupants and the building itself before leaving completely. Since then, she has become a career criminal and mercenary with a lethal reputation. On the surface, she can be piercingly charismatic and charming; internally her psyche has become reinforced with a desire to sate her own sadistic nature. She will often purposely delay in killing someone if they interest her, greatly preferring the thrill of chasing them down.
Her encounters with the Spiders have been something of a game to Irene. Despite the efforts to stop her in the midst of any kind of heist, murder, or other contract she pulls, Irene views the Spiders more like a fun distraction rather than outright threats. To her, they are an entertaining puzzle to overcome.
Mordecai Gargan - Scorpion: One of Alchemax's pet projects, Mordecai initially grew up in Florida's countryside and later went on to study engineering at MIT. He developed a fascination with robotics and cyberware at an early age, honing that obsession into his primary passion and talent. In order to land a position with Oscorp, he developed a suit of power armor that could act as a leap forward in military technology. Oscorp turned him down and he became further obsessed with pushing the limits of his suit and abilities.
Alchemax took notice of this and arranged for him to not only be put on their "special tasks" division, but also become a subject for several drugs and chemicals developed for the purpose of enhancing physical capabilities while dulling inhibitions. The man now known as the Scorpion is a shell of his former self; he is sadistic, cruel, and has lost all sense of morality and inhibition beyond obeying the commands of his superiors at Alchemax.
Name Unknown - Marionette: A strange woman that seems fixated on Mary Jane and the other Spiders. The trio know little about her, with their main piece of information being that she seems to be French; something that was discovered the few times she actually spoke to any of them. Marionette earned her name from Gwen in particular when her, Mary Jane, and Harry first saw the woman's "power" in action: she is able to control a set of six wooden dolls that each possess their own weapons while Marionette herself possesses super-human strength, endurance, agility, and durability. Even stranger, damaging the dolls seems to have a direct effect on Marionette physically as displayed when Mary Jane was able to destroy one and it resulted in Marionette recoiling physically while coughing up blood. Since then, she has become fixated on MJ in particular and often tries to ambush her when she's alone. Marionette wears a gothic dress, heeled-boots, and a mask resembling the sides of comedy and tragedy, one side white while the other is black.
Despite one doll being destroyed, Marionette still possesses six to this day. It has led MJ to hypothesize that the dolls can come back if she's allowed to heal. Her theory was reinforced when Mary Jane accidentally killed Marionette when she indirectly caused a shipping container to crush her; yet two months later Marionette returned as if nothing had happened.
Mikhail Volkov - The Pale Wolf: Mikhail was born and raised in Russia until he and his family immigrated to the United States in the 90s. He fell in with a gang some years later, though eventually wound up working as an enforcer for one of New York City's criminal syndicates at the time. Eventually he took the reigns as the boss of that organization, renaming it to Okhotniki (The Huntsmen) and leading the syndicate into a new golden age for their business thanks to deals brokered with Alchemax. That same golden age rapidly became worn down once the Scarlet Spider came into the picture, made even worse with the arrival of Ghost Spider and Goblin Spider.
The trio have interfered in many of Volkov's affairs, largely constricting Okhotniki's efforts to expand. He has devoted a considerable amount of time, money, and even his own safety to bringing down the Spider trio completely. His obsession with them resulted in him making a deal with Alchemax to give him whatever they could that could help in finally wiping the Spiders out. This led to him willingly undergoing extensive, highly experimental genetic modification and drugs that would change him completely from the inside and out. As a result, Volkov now has the ability to transform into a monster at will, essentially becoming akin to a werewolf without any of the drawbacks in the old myths. He has personally led several efforts against the Spiders and has fought Mary Jane several times since then.
L. Thompson Lincoln - Tombstone: Also known as The Big Man; Tombstone operates Alabaster, another large criminal syndicate operating within New York City and beyond. Like with Volkov, Tombstone works directly alongside Alchemax in order to source things the company needs handled "under the table" in exchange for technology, money, or whatever chemicals the group needs. Tombstone himself is a physically imposing giant of a man with skin as white as snow. He and Mary Jane have only met once in her early years as Scarlet Spider after she linked several heists back to his doorstep. In her hubris, she tried to confront Tombstone face to face and wound up being physically beaten within an inch of her life.
Tombstone sees potential in the Spiders as possible employees, but will not hesitate to fight or even kill them if needed. He even offered Mary Jane a job working as one of his agents when they first met, with her refusal being no surprise. Since then, the two have only met sparsely but still possess a more casual relationship despite being enemies. The few times they have fought each other personally wind up resulting in more banter and genuine conversation than with any other criminal or villain Mary Jane has faced. The same even goes for when Gwen and Harry have faced him.
Lucian Frost - Diablo: Lucian's past is a complete mystery to Mary Jane and her friends. All they know is he showed up in New York six years into the Scarlet Spider's tenure as a vigilante. However, he seems to care very little for the Spiders on the surface. At least so they believe. Lucian himself is a powerful psionic that possesses multiple abilities that could be classified as supernatural. He can "teleport" by hopping dimensions, has telekinetic abilities, and is able to see into the minds of others as well as manipulate them on a mental level. While he cannot outright control someone's mind, he is able to subject individuals to the manifestations of their own psyche; an apt comparison would be trapping them in their own personal Hell. This process requires the victim to be either asleep or under the influence of narcotics to work, however. He is a master manipulator and can use this in order to condition people into doing what he wishes if they fail to overcome their personal demons.
Mary Jane, Gwen, and Harry have been subjected to this power on at least one occasion each, with MJ herself having been a victim three times. However she was able to beat Lucian's "game" each time, if by the skin of her teeth at least. Gwen and Harry were also able to successfully break through the conditioning, though with much more noticeable success. Lucian has grown fascinated by the inner machinations of the Scarlet Spider's mind and seeks to test her limits even further.
T4-N7 - Nemecyst: An artificially created monster only vaguely resembling a human. The Series 4, Mark 7 Terminator Nemesis is a bio-organic weapon developed by Alchemax for military purposes, but has also been sent out against the Spider trio in order to test its strength and durability. Previous models of the Terminator Nemesis have been deployed in a series of tests, with each one being killed up to this point once the Spiders began to realize the creatures were not human. Each one has simply been called Nemecyst, a rather childish combination of nemesis and cyst that still describes the beasts perfectly. They are there to not only be test subjects, but act as a plague toward the heroes.
Mary Jane herself has killed two of the Nemecysts, specifically the initial prototype in their first encounter, and then the Mk.3 model after an extensive battle. Gwen and Harry helped with the Mk.3, but have individually killed the others themselves or together as a group.
Malcom Ahmed - Hobgoblin: Malcom was born in Morocco and raised there for most of his life. He ended up going to Egypt for his education pursuits, and later went to Germany to study chemistry. His talent for chemical engineering and pharmaceutical research was noticed by Tombstone and he was hired on to work for him as someone who could source, handle, and create various drugs, explosives, and other compounds that might be needed. It is unknown exactly how Malcom became the Hobgoblin, but Tombstone believes it was a result of the man constantly locking himself away in his lab and going crazy from the fumes.
As the Hobgoblin, Malcom has become a major threat to Mary Jane and her friends, along with New York at large. He is a relentless terrorist that takes joy in causing mayhem throughout the city whenever he pleases. His arsenal of explosive weapons, a high-end glider, and even various firearms at his disposal have turned him into a deadly opponent. This comes with the one consolation that he does not operate openly very often, but has become simultaneously hard to locate as well. Harry especially has not shortage of hatred for Hobgoblin given the similarities between the two, to the point where citizens sometimes panic when they see Harry's own glider.
Dahlia Calder - Mysterio: A so-called “master of magic”. Mysterio is another villain that seemingly came out of nowhere. Her main abilities come from an advanced suit that is capable of displaying holographic projections. Along with an arsenal of various drugs, chemicals, and explosives she can deliver via gas grenades or syringes shot out of a wrist-mounted gun; Mysterio has caused no end of trouble for the Spider-trio over the years. When she first appeared, she convinced Mary Jane that her intentions were to come as an ally and help the Spiders. However, she was actually out to use the Scarlet Spider as an unwitting pawn in a larger heist. Through careful manipulation and use of holograms, as well as chemical agents, Dahlia was able to use Mary Jane in order to steal a device from Oscorp; a device that Dahlia needed in order to upgrade her holograms to not only become more effective, but even be able to implant subliminal messages with prolonged exposure.
The heist itself resulted in the Scarlet Spider becoming known as a menace, with the police believing she was a willing accomplice instead of an unfortunate scapegoat. After the incident, Mysterio made multiple attempts to try and subdue each of the Spiders, but was usually stopped before any real damage could be done. However, she did almost kill Gwen just a year after the Oscorp heist, leaving Mary Jane with a permanent, deep hatred of Mysterio.

Earth 8290's world history is primarily similar to most others. Apart from some irrelevant, surface-level differences, most major historical events follow the traditional pattern with a few major differences being largely obscured from the public eye. The other significant contrasts are much more visible immediately on entry. The current year on Earth 8290 is 2023, however the level of technology and scientific advancement is higher in some regards and lower in others. 8290 lacks advanced space travel, optimized cybernetic augments, or flying cars; most major advancements in the technological sphere are based more on computers and machine learning, artificial intelligence, medical technology, life aids, and luxury goods among an array of other leaps ahead of the modern era.
All this and more was made possible after the repelling of an alien invasion against Earth in 1982. Ms. Marvel, Captain America, and several other heroes at the time worked together to repel the invaders. The exact details surrounding the Kree-Skrull War have remained largely obscured from the public eye, with the only information known for certain is that the world’s superheroes at the time banded together to defeat them and that the Skrull were abducting humans and replacing them. In doing so, humanity was able to salvage a significant amount of alien technology that allowed for immense leaps and bounds in scientific and medical advancements. Unfortunately, these leaps came at a price; world governments were soon coerced by large corporate entities into allowing them to research the recovered technology. Initially, the research contracts and grants meant that only government and military usage would be allowed. Though inevitably, the discoveries led to inventions and innovations to products that wound up in the civilian markets.
Ms. Marvel saw the rapid expansion of corporate power, along with their control over the world leadership and began to fear the worst. Allowing the growth of their influence to fester like an infected wound was dangerous, and many of the heroes she fought alongside agreed with that thought.
Captain America, on the other hand, believed that allowing the government to handle the situation was the better option. He was still a soldier, and had faith in his country to do what was right. He believed Ms. Marvel was acting too hasty and feared she would do something drastic in order to prevent perceived fears from becoming a reality. Other heroes agreed with him.
What followed was a Civil War between Earth’s heroes that began in 1989 and lasted for four years. The group that should have become the Avengers instead tore itself apart at the seams through arguments, betrayal, and eventually all out violence against one another. Several heroes were killed, others were severely wounded and went missing. There were those who integrated back into the civilian populace or became hermits due to a shared belief that they had failed in their roles as heroes in general. Captain America’s fate is largely unknown. Ms. Marvel was declared missing, but in reality went into a self-imposed exile in order to recover mentally and physically from her harrowing battle with her former comrades. She has not been seen since.
By 1993, all the former heroes involved in the Civil War had either vanished from the public eye or were killed. 30 years later, new meta-humans and heroes have emerged over the past 15 years in particular. The New York Spider-Triad (sometimes referred to as the Spider Trio) operate primarily within New York City itself.
The world outside of the struggles of meta-humans still persists as a largely mundane, yet almost dystopian society in which large corporations have dominated most of the world by 2023. Government bodies still operate as normal, though will almost always turn a blind eye toward major corporate activities no matter how elicit or inhumane they are. Police forces, hospitals, and even some schools have been largely privatized under satellite companies acting in the interests of their parent corporate bodies. On the surface, there is little to no difference apparent to the general population since most of the larger injustices committed by the government and corporations are presented as enhancements to daily quality of life. Robotic assistants that can do chores around the house, surveillance devices at your doorbell, machines that can be installed and wired directly to your home's utilities to have an artificial intelligence manage their usage, and so much more. Yet almost all of it has created a surveillance state in which information can be collected and sold to the highest bidders. It may be information as innocuous as what people buy or something as damning as someone's drug addictions. Other enterprises form under the surface to abuse the latter as much as possible, while major companies will often go for the former.
All this goes on while a vast criminal underworld operates in the shadows. Entire organizations and enterprises treated as businesses; individual contractors working as cleaners, assassins, hackers, doctors, and more; there is seemingly no end to the complexity of the underworld. In addition to it all, there are "private security contractor" groups that act as little more than mercenaries for whoever is willing to pay for whatever dirty work that needs to be done. Little to no paper trails are left as everything is paid in cash for the purposes of avoiding negative public attention. Some heroes go against it, but most fall victim to short-sighted savior complexes, corporate meddling, or lack of resources. The Spider-Triad in particular have made considerable efforts and progress to expose this system and the connections that corporations have to the criminal underworld. The belief that they can potentially bring it down, or at least pave the way toward it, is the primary motivation for their actions.
The appearance of Earth 8290 is varied depending on the nation or even the cities one visits, though most of the larger urban sprawls adhere to a mixture of space-race, retro-future inspired sleekness and brutalist concrete nightmares with a high-tech edge. The lower class usually live in buildings that, on the outside, can appear dreary– almost like a prison. The interiors are often fairly diverse depending on upkeep and maintenance. At best, an apartment will be well maintained, but bland. Some cities, such as New York City itself, have districts with "pod" apartments; compact living spaces built for those living alone. These can range in quality depending on the price, often being entirely purchasable and owned like a house. The property will still belong to a central landlord or company, but the pod will belong to the individual so long as they adhere to contract terms.
The skylines of cities can usually be dotted with various lights, signs, and scattered signs built with neon or LEDs that wash over the concrete jungles in a faint glow of different, cool colors. Blues, purples, and cyan hues usually overtake most of the skyline with traces of orange, red, and yellow. The lights blend in well with the natural street lighting of the city, creating a blend of colors that paint the skyline beautifully in contrast to some of the more dismal architecture further out of the central regions. Most buildings jut out in a sleek, almost retro-futuristic style to their architecture amid the more brutal towers and smaller buildings.
In the past decade, genetic modification and splicing has been a hot topic for military contracts. Multiple companies have made considerable efforts to perfect the process, which in turn has resulted in a few experiments that have inadvertently caused problems for the general population. Desperate people are plied with promises of money or other things they need if they undergo splicing procedures and genemod operations. More often than not, these end in situations where the subject is turned into a monstrosity of some kind; at best they become a true human-animal hybrid and in the worst case scenario look like a hideous mutant out of a horror movie. Most of the subjects are kept locked away in labs for further testing, but some are simply released back into the world with no way to be fixed and nobody to help them outside.
Communes of spliced individuals and mutants eventually form in the countryside or in isolated, abandoned parts of the cities. New York especially has become a large hub for the victims of corporate genetic tampering experiments. While the Spider-Triad do not normally have the capability to assist the victims, Scarlet Spider in particular will often try to help the victims she meets by directing them to the communes she has connections to or helping them emotionally through their struggles. Her training as a psychologist often helps her in dealing with the problems that these people now face.
Overall, the large issues in the world are the vast criminal underworld with tangible connections to large, international corporations that have done everything in their power to control the populace. While some heroes and larger figures attempt to fight both of these forces, they are largely unable to make significant progress. The Spider-Triad in New York City has taken a subtle, investigative approach toward the matter in order to expose the corruption at the root and help dismantle these organizations on a deeper level.

Gwen Stacy and Harry Osborn are both Spider-Heroes, similar to Mary Jane. Originally, their group was called the Spider-Triad, but expansions to the team over the years have changed that dynamic. They are now operating without an official name, but the members have become varied.
Gwen Stacy is the Ghost Spider. She possesses organic webs similar to Mary Jane's, but lacks the strength and durability. Instead, she is highly agile, dexterous, has inhuman reflexes, can turn invisible, and has unnatural flexibility that defies human anatomy.
Harry Osborn is Goblin Spider. He doesn't have any powers, but vowed to become a hero to help Mary Jane in any way he could. He uses a power armor suit and glider, along with a suite of gadgets to help.
Elliot Watson is Crimson Thread. Elliot is Mary Jane's twin brother and shares a lot of similar powers to her, sharing her strength and durability along with having the ability to morph his fingers into razor sharp claws. He also has elongated canines that act as venomous fangs.
Cindy Moon is Silk Spider, a girl who was experimented on by Alchemax for 10 years before being rescued by Scarlet Spider, Crimson Thread, Doctor Strange, and Electro. She has enhanced strength, agility, durability, and flexibility, on top of similar claws and fangs to Elliot. She has eight, huge spider legs that protrude from her back and can be retracted for a time with considerable effort.
Max Dillon is Electro, a man who worked for Roxxon Energy until he was a victim of an accident that gave him electricity and tesla powers. After his accident, Scarlet Spider found him and helped guide him on the path to keeping his sanity. Since then, he's vowed to help her and be a hero.
Doctor Kurtis Connors is Chimera, once a gifted biologist and scientist who worked for Alchemax. After an accident took three of his limbs, he agreed to test an experimental drug for Alchemax that promised to give him his body back. Unfortunately the concoction turned him into a monster, a hybrid between a coyote and a rattlesnack taking a huge, muscular bipedal form.
