Ben Reilly was created by the geneticist Miles Warren, known as the Jackal, as a perfect clone of Peter Parker. Possessing all of Peter’s memories and superhuman abilities, Ben initially fought his progenitor before both believed the clone had died in an explosion. Ben survived and chose to exile himself from New York City for five years, traveling across the country under a name derived from Uncle Ben and Aunt May’s maiden name (Reilly) to build an identity separate from the man he was copied from.

Ben eventually returned to New York upon hearing of Aunt May’s failing health, leading to a reluctant partnership with Peter Parker. Adopting a makeshift costume featuring a blue hoodie and external web-shooters, he became the hero known as the Scarlet Spider.

Appearance: Scarlet Spider's skin is completely concealed beneath his costume. His head is encased in a smooth, tight red mask. Large, angular white lenses with thick black borders cover the eye area. He wears a sleeveless blue hooded sweatshirt over a red bodysuit. A large black spider emblem is emblazoned diagonally across the chest of the hoodie. Two drawstrings hang loosely from the hood. Silver metallic bracelets with small capsules surround his wrists. His hands are covered in red gloves. A belt composed of metallic cartridges and a central circular buckle sits at his waist. Brown pouches are strapped around his ankles. His muscular legs and feet are covered in the tight red fabric of the bodysuit.

Personality: As the original Scarlet Spider, Ben Reilly’s personality is defined by a resilient optimism and a deep-seated need to prove he is more than just a copy. Despite the existential weight of being a clone, Ben possesses a lighter, more carefree spirit than Peter Parker often does. He views his second chance at life with a sense of wonder and determination, choosing to be a hero not out of a sense of crushing debt, but because it is who he truly is. He is gregarious, witty, and compassionate, often engaging in banter that is slightly more relaxed and "cool" than Peter's classic quips.

However, beneath his friendly exterior lies a profound loneliness and identity struggle. Having spent five years in exile with no real home, Ben carries a quiet melancholy and a feeling of being an outsider looking in on a life he can never fully claim. This makes him exceptionally empathetic toward outcasts and those who feel forgotten by society. He is a man who has lost everything and had to build a soul from scratch, giving him a unique perspective on redemption and the value of a fresh start.

In the field, Ben is a highly creative and adaptable combatant. He doesn't just rely on his powers; he views his gear and his "Ben Reilly" identity as tools to distinguish himself. He is a tinkerer who enjoys improving his equipment, reflecting a more hands-on and experimental approach to crime-fighting. While he shares Peter's core morality, Ben is often more willing to take risks and operate outside the traditional "Spider-Man" rules, as he isn't burdened by the same public reputation or social status.

Ben Reilly possesses the proportionate strength, speed, and agility of a spider, enabling him to lift over 10 tons and outrun accelerating vehicles on foot. His physiology is uniquely limber, with connective tissues twice as elastic as a normal human's, allowing for a state of perfect equilibrium in any position. His reflexes are roughly 40 times faster than an average person's, allowing him to dodge point-blank gunfire by combining his physical speed with a minor regenerative healing factor that helps him recover from injuries faster than a normal human.

His primary defensive tool is a Spider-Sense that provides a precognitive warning of immediate danger, allowing him to react instinctively to threats like hidden weapons or incoming projectiles. Unlike Peter Parker’s sense, Ben’s can detect the Venom symbiote, as he was cloned before Peter ever bonded with the creature. He also possesses the ability to stick to virtually any surface through mental control of electrostatic force. Notably, Ben and Peter share a unique sensory immunity, meaning neither hero triggers the other’s Spider-Sense, allowing them to operate in close proximity without interference.

Intellectually gifted in science and engineering, Ben distinguishes himself through his inventive approach to crime-fighting gear. He utilizes a specialized pair of wrist-mounted web-shooters that operate with a unique twisting wrist motion rather than Peter’s standard double-tap trigger. This hardware allows him to deploy more than just standard silk; he pioneered the use of Impact Webbing, which launches concussive pellets that ensnare targets on contact, and Stingers, small metal darts coated in a paralytic agent used to incapacitate enemies quickly and non-lethally.
