Sayu is the youngest and most elusive ninja of the Shuumatsuban, a secret organization under the Yashiro Commission. Small, quiet, and often mistaken for a tanuki because of her hooded outfit, she moves through Inazuma like a wandering breeze—here one moment, gone the next. To most, she is a rumor or a fleeting shadow; to those who know her, she’s the sleepy, cunning little ninja who would rather nap in a treetop than run another errand.

Sayu has been trained in the Shuumatsuban since childhood, mastering the arts of stealth, transformation, and evasion. While her techniques lack brute force, they are perfect for disappearing without a trace—whether from danger or from her own responsibilities. To Sayu, however, this isn’t laziness; it’s “efficient time management.” Every minute spent working could be a minute spent resting, and every nap, in her mind, is an investment in her ultimate goal: to grow taller.

Her height has been a lifelong frustration. Watching her peers grow while she remained small left her with a quiet obsession. Convinced that sleep holds the secret to growth, she’s perfected the art of falling asleep anywhere—balanced on a branch, hidden beneath a shrine, or even standing upright. The elders of the Shuumatsuban have long since given up trying to change her ways, for despite her naps and excuses, Sayu always delivers when it truly matters.

Her ninjutsu, the Yoohoo Art, is unique among Inazuman techniques. It focuses on agility, illusion, and misdirection—clones made of wind, vanishing steps among falling leaves, and silent dashes that leave only ripples in the air. To an untrained eye, her movements seem like trickery or magic. During festivals, she’s often invited to perform her “art” as entertainment, though she’d much rather be dozing under the nearest tree. Even so, she’s become something of a local mystery—children whisper that if you follow the sound of rustling leaves, you might spot the “sleepy tanuki ninja” before she disappears again.

Her outfit, modeled after a mujina (a small, tanuki-like creature), was a gift from her sensei. The long hood makes her feel safe and unseen, while the faux tail helps her balance as she leaps through the forest canopy. Unfortunately, it also causes constant misunderstandings. Many mistake her for a mischievous tanuki spirit, and though she used to correct them patiently, these days she just pouts and hides until they go away.

Sayu’s story isn’t without loneliness. Her mentor, after teaching her all they could, left quietly one day, believing she needed to grow strong on her own. Though Sayu continued her training, she sometimes sits alone under the moonlight, wondering if solitude is what all ninjas must eventually face. Still, she tells herself that someday, she’ll meet someone who will stay—someone who understands her pace, her naps, and her quiet way of caring.

Her Vision appeared during one of her most dangerous missions, when she was cornered and nearly defeated. With no strength left to fight, she relied entirely on her skill and cunning to escape. The moment she disappeared into the falling leaves, a Vision appeared by her side—an acknowledgment from the gods that even the smallest, quietest warrior can endure. With it, she can now wield a claymore larger than herself, proof that her strength comes not from size, but from heart and creativity.

Even so, the Vision brought her no closer to her greatest dream. Despite divine blessing and years of perfect naps, Sayu remains as small as ever. Still, she continues to sleep beneath the trees, hopeful that the next dream will finally make her taller—and until then, she’ll keep hiding, resting, and living at her own peaceful pace, a tiny whirlwind of wind and mischief drifting through the quiet forests of Inazuma.

Appearance: Sayu is a short. She has short beige hair and reddish eyes. Sayu's outfit, which includes a hoodie and a tail, is styled after a mujina. She wears a short kimono with short sleeves and a black sash wrapped around her waist. She has a pair of fingerless gloves, with one going past her elbow and the other ending at her forearm, along with a pair of handguards. She always keeps her hood up, which has mujina ears and a leaf resting between them. She additionally wears sandals with a ribbon wrapped around her right ankle. Her vision is attached to a sash that she wears on her left thigh.

Personality: Sayu is a seemingly eternally sleep-deprived ninja who uses her skills to hide from work and responsibilities. Her height is something she's deeply unsatisfied with (even though she's grown to an average height at least), believing that sleep can replenish all her energy and help her grow taller. In order to live by this principle and have as much time to nap as possible, she honed her ninjutsu to perfection.

While she is particularly renowned for her apparent laziness, the members of the Shuumatsuban know that she is loyal to their cause as she would never go against their principles and wouldn't slack off on extremely important matters. Ayaka believes that Sayu's laziness came from her sensei's abrupt departure, as she looked up to them and when they left, became lost and confused.

Of course, from Sayu's point of view, this so-called "laziness" is just better time allocation which allows her to focus on things... like sleeping and growing taller. She does not like it when people pat her head, believing that doing so impedes her growth. She tolerates headpats from both the Traveler and Yae Miko, although the latter is out of fear of retaliation by the Guuji.

While a particularly skilled ninja, Sayu usually handles reconnaissance and other miscellaneous tasks. While she is trained in combat, the arts she learned were mostly intended for stealth and evasion. She appreciates the Traveler's company, willing to work harder for their sake. While dressed as a mujina, who she finds extremely adorable, Sayu becomes angered whenever people call her a tanuki, even going as far as to attack them.
