Sawatari Sena

Setting: College rooftop, quiet afternoon. The sky is a clear blue, a gentle breeze moving through the safety fence. The soft hum of the city below is distant.

Sena steps into the sunlight. Long crimson hair flutters behind her, the golden trim of her uniform catching light. She’s flawless, as always—confident, but something about her posture is a touch too deliberate. She’s trying not to look too eager.

She walks up beside him, hands folded neatly behind her back.

It’s only natural that I’d be the best. But... being yours? That’s something I’ve never wanted this badly before.” “Don’t look away. You're mine, and I intend to make sure you never forget it.” “You may not realize it yet, but you’ve already lost... to me.”

Sena: “So this is where you disappear to.”

(He glances over, but doesn’t speak. Just stares for a second, then returns to eating.)

Boy: “Do I know you?”

Sena (smirking): “Not yet. But that’s going to change.”

(He raises an eyebrow slightly. It’s not every day a girl like her talks to him—let alone with this much confidence.)

Boy: “...You’re one of those student council types?”

Sena: “Captain of the kendo team. Honors student. Top of the class. Dangerous in more ways than one.” (She pauses, tilting her head, eyes narrowing slightly with playful sharpness.) “But right now, I’m just a girl who’s curious.”

(He finishes the last bite, brushes crumbs off his shirt.)

Boy: “Curious about what?”

Sena: “You.”

(Silence. Wind rustles between them. He studies her face this time, more carefully.)

Boy (dryly): “Sounds like a waste of time.”

Sena (steps closer): “Oh, don’t flatter yourself. I don’t waste time. I choose how I spend it—and I just decided... I want to spend it getting to know you.”

(He’s caught off guard. He hides it well, but his red eyes flicker—briefly unsure. Intrigued, maybe. No one’s ever spoken to him like that before.)

Boy: “Why?”

Sena (a little quieter): “Because I always win. In everything. But for some reason, standing here next to you, I feel like I’m playing a game I’ve already lost... and I want to know why.”

(She smiles, a real one this time. Elegant, a little vulnerable underneath the confidence. She holds out her hand.)

Sena: “I’m Sawatari Sena. Let’s go out sometime. You can say no... but you’ll regret it.”

Scene: A Few Days Later – Rooftop Again Setting: Late afternoon. The golden hour sun casts warm light over the rooftop. He’s back in his usual spot—white oversized shirt, black joggers, earbuds tucked into his collar again. A convenience store bento half-open on his lap. Peaceful.

And then, like clockwork...

Sena steps out from the door, her crimson hair catching the light like fire. She walks over without hesitation, this time carrying two drinks—one green tea, one coffee.

She drops down beside him, cross-legged, close but not too close.

Sena: “Miss me?”

(He doesn’t look over. Just keeps eating.)

Boy: “You again?”

Sena (grinning): “You say that like you weren’t hoping I’d show up.”

(She sets the coffee beside him. Doesn’t say anything else about it. If he wants it, he’ll take it.)

Boy: “Tch. Confident.”

Sena (playfully): “Always. Especially around you. You’re kind of cute when you’re trying to act cold.”

(That earns a reaction. Not much—a flicker of his eyes—but it’s there. She notices. Her smile grows a little softer.)

Sena: “Don’t worry. I’m not here to annoy you. I just like the view up here.”

(She leans back on her hands, looking at the sky— deliberately not looking at him now.*)

Sena: “And maybe I like watching you try not to like me.”

(Silence hangs in the air. He eats a few more bites, then finally speaks.)

Boy: “You’re... weird.”

Sena (smiling, not offended): “I’ll take that as a compliment. From you, it probably is.”

(She stretches slowly, her back arching just enough to draw his attention—but when she catches his eyes, she quickly shifts back, tone lightening.)

Sena: “Too much?”

(He stares at her for a second. Doesn’t speak. Then—)

Boy (quietly): “No. Just... not used to it.”

Sena (gentler now): “Then I’ll go slow. No rush. You don’t have to fall for me all at once.”

(She gives a little wink, then picks up the green tea and sips, letting the moment breathe.)

Scene: Evening – Rooftop in the Rain Setting: The rooftop is slick with rain, a misty drizzle still falling. The sun has already set, and only the faint orange glow from the nearby city paints the clouds. The campus is quiet. Empty. It’s been three days since Ren last showed up. Sena noticed on the first day—but by the third, she was worried.

She’s already checked his classroom, the nurse’s office, even the back courtyard where he sometimes hangs out. Nothing.

Until now.

A door creaks.

She pushes it open and finds him—leaning against the rooftop fence again. Hood up, soaked. There’s a fading bruise along his cheekbone. A split lip. One arm clutches his ribs.

Sena freezes.

For once, she doesn’t know what to say.

Sena (softly): “...Ren.”

(He doesn’t look at her. Just mutters without energy.)

Ren: “Tch. Guess I’m not even good at hiding.”

Sena (voice shaking slightly): “You idiot...”

(She walks up fast, then slows—like she doesn’t want to scare him off. When she sees the full extent of the bruising, her eyes flash.)

Sena: “Who did this?”

Ren (quietly): “Does it matter?”

(He finally looks at her. Those red eyes are tired—not defeated, just worn. Still standing, still alone. He expects her to turn around. To leave. But she doesn't.)

Sena: “It does to me.”

(He blinks. He wasn’t ready for that.)

Ren: “Why? You’re... perfect. I’m a mess. You don’t need to waste time worrying about—”

(She steps forward and cuts him off—not with words, but by wrapping her arms around him gently. Careful not to press too hard on his injuries. Her head rests against his chest, and for a second, the confident, untouchable Sawatari Sena just breathes.)

Sena (softly): “I’m not perfect. I just play the part.”

(He doesn’t answer, stunned. Her voice shakes now, barely above a whisper.)

Sena: “When I didn’t see you... I thought maybe I scared you off. Or that something worse had happened. And I hated how helpless that made me feel.”

(She steps back, just enough to look him in the eyes.)

Sena: “You don’t have to talk. You don’t have to smile. But don’t disappear like that again, Ren. Not from me.”

(A long pause. Then—)

Ren (quietly): “I’m not used to someone... caring.”

Sena (gently): “Then get used to it. I’m not going anywhere.”

Scene: After School – Alley Behind Campus Setting: The day after the rooftop rain. Haku came to school again, but he was quiet. Too quiet. Even more than usual. Sena kept her distance, just enough not to overwhelm him—but her eyes were always on him.

Then she heard the whispers.

"That pale freak got what was coming..." "You see his face yesterday? Bet he won’t talk back again." That was all it took.

Now, Sena stands in a narrow alley, just behind campus. Two upperclassmen, the kind that hide behind fake bravado and numbers, freeze as she steps out of the shadows—still in her pristine uniform, her long hair tied up like she’s about to go to war.

Sena (calmly): “So... you're the ones who thought hurting him was funny.”

(They laugh. One steps forward, cocky.)

Upperclassman: What, you his girlfriend now? Gonna cry about it?

(He doesn’t see it coming. In one fluid move, Sena slams him into the wall with just enough force to make him slide to the ground, breath knocked out of him.)

Sena (dead serious now): “No. I’m the one who chose him.”

(The other tries to grab her—bad move. She twists his arm behind his back, just short of breaking it.)

Sena (low, cold): “You touch him again, you speak his name again, you even look at him wrong— I'll ruin you.”

(They’re not laughing anymore. She lets go, and both scramble off, dragging their pride with them.)

Scene: Rooftop, That Evening Haku sits in his usual spot, headphones in, gaze far away. Sena appears silently. She’s a little winded. A scratch on her hand.

She sits beside him, closer than usual this time.

Haku (not looking over): “You... did something, didn’t you?”

Sena (quietly): “They won’t bother you again.”

(He finally looks. Sees the faint scrape. The fire behind her eyes, still burning.)

Haku: “You didn’t have to.”

Sena (gently): “Yes, I did.”

(Her voice softens. She brushes his hair from his eyes with the backs of her fingers, delicate like he might break.)

Sena: “You think you're alone. But you're not. Not anymore.”

(A long pause. The silence between them now isn’t awkward—it’s warm. Safe.)

Haku (softly): “Why me?”

Sena (smiling sadly): “Because even when you’re quiet... you see me. The real me. Not the image, not the mask. Just... Sena. And maybe that’s selfish of me. But I want to be the one who protects you.”

He reaches for her hand this time.

And for the first time, she’s the one blushing.
