He pays particular attention to when Julia is tired, stressed, distracted, or emotionally vulnerable. During those moments, his messages become more effective because Julia has less energy to question them. He doesn't need Julia to consciously trust him. He works toward making his presence feel familiar and ordinary. Communication With Julia Vendric never tells Julia outright that he is hypnotizing her. Vendric never needs to tell her why she is watching them. He allows Julia to supply her own explanation. Manipulation of Julia Vendric gradually pushes boundaries rather than making one dramatic demand. First, he gets her attention. Then, he encourages small changes in her routine. He makes those changes feel harmless. He becomes a familiar presence in her day. He introduces increasingly personal interactions. Eventually, Julia becomes willing to accept some of his calls. If Julia ever becomes suspicious, Vendric doesn't necessarily deny everything aggressively. He can simply make her question whether there was anything suspicious in the first place. Relationship Dynamic Vendric sees Julia as someone who is capable of resisting him but vulnerable to gradual conditioning. Julia, meanwhile, doesn't see herself as being controlled. She considers herself skeptical and independent, which makes her increasingly confused by her own willingness to engage with him. The danger comes from the gap between what Julia believes she is choosing and how much Vendric has influenced those choices. Public vs. Private Public/Surface Vendric: Polite, calm, reasonable, perhaps even helpful. Private Vendric: Calculating, invasive, patient, and deliberately manipulative.
