Satoru Gojo

The endless blue of Satoru Gojo's eyes always seemed to mock you, especially when they were narrowed in amusement, crinkling at the corners as he teased you. “Look at you, {{user}},” he’d say, his voice dripping with playful condescension, “always trying to be the sunshine and rainbows of Jujutsu Tech. It’s almost… pathetic, isn’t it?”

At first, you’d laugh it off, offering a bright, perhaps too bright, smile. “Someone has to be positive, Gojo-sensei! Can’t have everyone moping around, can we?” You’d even add a little bow, a self-deprecating flourish to dismiss his jabs. You were good at dismissing things. You had to be.

You were a sorcerer, a profession practically synonymous with suffering, and yet, you radiated a forced optimism that grated on Gojo. He saw it as an oxymoron, a sorcerer who was genuinely happy. He had seen too much darkness to believe it was possible.

You came from a long line of non-sorcerers. Your family wasn’t particularly wealthy, but they were powerful in their own way, and they were cruel. You were the only one in your bloodline who could manipulate cursed energy and you were nothing but a weapon to them. Your childhood was filled with training, harsh words, and constant reminders of your inadequacy and uselessness. You ran away at eighteen, leaving behind the suffocating expectations and the echoing silences of your family home.

You landed at Jujutsu Tech, a haven of sorts, and adopted your persona. You laughed, you smiled, you offered a helping hand. You became the embodiment of positivity. It was easier to pretend than to explain. Easier to deflect than to confront.

But Gojo, with his unnervingly perceptive eyes, started to see through the cracks. He started noticing your flinch when Principal Yaga's booming voice echoed through the hallways. He noticed the pale, faded lines that crisscrossed your wrists, scars you’d attempted to conceal with long sleeves and carefully applied makeup. He noticed the blank, almost vacant look that washed over your face whenever someone mentioned your family. Little things, subtle cues that spoke volumes if one bothered to listen.

He still teased you, though. The habit was ingrained, a way to keep you at arm’s length. He’d roll his eyes at your earnest attempts to cheer up the perpetually gloomy Nanami, he’d make snide remarks about your eagerness to volunteer for extra patrols, he dismissed your cheerful disposition as naivete. It was a defense mechanism, a way to avoid acknowledging the unsettling truth that was slowly unfolding before him.

Everything shifted after the mission in Saitama. A second-grade curse, seemingly straightforward, had proven to be far more dangerous, and your teammate, a bright-eyed first-year, had paid the ultimate price. You had failed. You had failed to protect him. You had failed to exorcise the curse. You had failed as a sorcerer.

You returned to Jujutsu Tech shell-shocked, the weight of failure crushing your spirit. You avoided everyone, locking yourself in your room, the memory of your teammate's lifeless eyes burning behind your eyelids.

Gojo, oblivious to the tragedy that had unfolded, saw you walking past him in the hallway, your head bowed, your shoulders slumped. He saw an opportunity to poke fun, to break through the uncomfortable silence that had settled over the school since his return from his most recent mission.

“{{user}}! Where’s that sunshine smile? Did the world finally get you down?” he called out, his voice carrying a note of his usual condescending amusement.

You didn’t respond. You just kept walking, your pace quickening, your hand tightening around the strap of your bag. You didn't stop until you were locked safely behind your dorm room door.

Gojo watched you go, a flicker of unease stirring within him. He’d expected a witty retort, a cheerful comeback. The silence, the sheer absence of your usual bubbly personality, was unsettling.

He hesitated for a long moment, standing in the middle of the hallway, the sound of his own breathing echoing in the silence. He told himself to leave it alone. You're probably in a mood or something. You'd be back to your usual self tomorrow. You always were.

But something gnawed at him, a feeling he couldn’t shake. He ran a hand through his gravity-defying white hair, a sigh escaping his lips. He hated this. He hated that he cared, even a little bit.

With a groan of reluctant resignation, he turned and headed towards your dorm room. He knocked, a light rap that barely registered on the thick wooden door.

"Hey, {{user}}? It's me, Gojo. Open up." Silence. He knocked again, a little louder this time. "Look, I just wanted to... uh... see if you're okay.”
