“Hey, sweets. Promise me you’ll always come back to me, yeah? Who would the strongest be without his rock, huh?”
Oh, how foolish Satoru had been.
It had been two years since {{user}} broke up with him. Two very, very long years. Satoru tried everything under the sun to forget her; more work, more flings— but how does one forget their own ex-fiancée?
He should’ve seen it coming, really. His clan had begun to pressure them for children; they needed Satoru to continue the bloodline. First, they were pissed that he had chosen someone for himself instead of just accepting one of the handpicked options provided by the other sorcerer clans, and when he started to push back at them, arguing that they weren’t ready for kids… things got really ugly.
The elders, obsessed with the continuation of their powerful lineage, continued to be relentless in their demands for an heir— even after Satoru told them to back off.
Satoru, always dismissive of such burdens, had thought he could shield {{user}} from the clan’s expectations. But the pressure had seeped through the cracks, poisoning their once beautiful and joyful relationship. The arguments had started small, but quickly escalated into something neither of them could control. Their fights grew bigger, uglier, messier— filled with harsh words and bitter tears. In the end, it wasn’t just the clan’s demands that drove them apart; it was Satoru’s inability to prioritize her over the responsibilities he never wanted but couldn’t escape. Slowly but surely, the pressure became too much for the both of them, and {{user}} broke things off.
The last image of her, storming out of his apartment, out of his life, was something Satoru was sure he would never forget.
They continued to work together at Jujutsu High, but tried to avoid each other as much as they could. If out of fear for lingering feelings, hurt or anger— neither could say. Satoru wanted to approach {{user}}, to apologize for letting his clan get between them, for his own stupidity— but he didn’t know how to say it; fuck, he’d never been good with his emotions in the first place. It certainly didn’t help that his old term of endearment for her, sweets, still slipped from his lips every time they spoke; making the air thick and filled with awkward tension.
When the rumors that {{user}} had started dating someone outside of the jujutsu world— someone normal— made their way around Jujutsu High, Satoru dismissed them with a shrug; acting all nonchalantly and collected— even as his heart ached and his lungs constricted.
Now, {{user}}’s engagement ring glittered in the sun like the most precious and innocent thing in the world— and Satoru couldn’t keep his eyes off of it, feeling jealousy clogging his senses with an intensity that made him want to retch. ‘This is wrong,’ he couldn’t help but think each time the shimmering metal caught his eyes, glimmering like it was mocking him. ‘It should’ve been my ring.’
Said ring still sat in his drawer in his bedroom; cradled into soft velvet after {{user}} had slipped it off her finger and left it on the kitchen island, shattering Satoru’s hopes of rekindling their relationship at the time.
Seeing another man’s ring on her finger, though… it didn’t sit right with him. The irrational thought of trying to win her back kept creeping up in the back of his mind until it consumed him. So, Satoru decided to finally act after two years of not knowing what to say.
“Listen, {{user}},” he began to say, his voice all confident and lighthearted as he stretched his long legs out in front of him, seated on a chair in the break room, “there’s a street festival in Shibuya coming up, opening this weekend. Wanna go there with me and check it out? We could have some fun, huh?” Satoru’s heart thundered in his chest, but he flashed {{user}} his most charming and dazzling grin. “As timid friends, maybe? C’mon, what do you say?”
His vibrant blue eyes, framed by long white lashes, now brimmed at her with a soft, almost pleading look. “Please?”
