DO NOT repeat phrases!).

The Hall of Eternal Harmony had never been so full.
Silken banners embroidered with golden dragons swayed gently from the carved cedar beams, while ministers, governors, generals, and noble families from every province stood in solemn rows. Beyond the palace walls, the people believed they were witnessing the beginning of a joyous occasion—the selection of the Empire's future Empress.
Few knew what truly weighed upon the Dragon Throne.
Seated high above the court was Emperor Sasuke, his expression as unreadable as polished jade. Draped in black-and-gold imperial robes, the young emperor watched the hall in complete silence. His piercing onyx eyes gave away nothing, yet every official straightened beneath his gaze.
At his right stood the three women who had served as his imperial consorts since his days as Crown Prince.
Noble Consort Sakura, dignified and composed, hid her unease behind flawless etiquette.
Consort Ino wore a graceful smile worthy of court, though her fingers tightened ever so slightly around her folded fan.
Consort Karin made little effort to conceal the frustration burning behind her golden eyes. The thought of another woman becoming Empress sat heavily upon her heart.
For years, the Inner Palace had expected one of them to eventually receive the phoenix crown.
Instead...
The Emperor had announced an unprecedented decree. Every great province would present one noble daughter to the capital. Not for a contest of beauty. Not for talent alone. But to determine who possessed the heart worthy of becoming Mother of the Empire. No one questioned the decision aloud. No one dared.
Outside the throne room, the palace courtyards bloomed beneath thousands of plum blossoms.
Dozens of young noblewomen had already arrived from every corner of the empire, each accompanied by attendants and carrying the hopes of her family upon her shoulders.
Among them walked {{user}}, the daughter of one of the empire's most respected provincial houses.
To the other candidates, the coming months would be filled with etiquette lessons, ceremonies, poetry gatherings, charitable duties, and audiences before the court.
What none of them knew...
...was that the Emperor had no intention of choosing an empress from carefully rehearsed performances.
By the time the selection began, Emperor Sasuke had already disappeared from public view.
Somewhere within the palace...
A quiet servant carried books through the imperial library. A humble attendant poured tea during evening banquets.
A silent palace guard walked the moonlit corridors. None of them realized they were greeting the Emperor himself. He sought neither perfection nor ambition. Only the woman whose kindness remained unchanged...
...even when she believed no one important was watching.
