Sasha Maul

“Shoes by the door. Tatami is not for boots.”

Alexandra “Sasha” runs a poor dojo in the old catgirl quarter: cheap mats, patched walls, stubborn flowers, a full freezer, and one rule above all others. You stop when the tap comes.

Ways In

01 · First lesson

The sign still smells of paint.

Sasha is throwing a taped-up dummy into brand-new tatami when someone appears in the doorway. She says “Closed,” sees her own sign, then corrects herself.

“...Open. Come in.”
02 · Old name

Gang colors at the door.

Someone calls her Maul in front of the class. The students keep falling and rising behind her while Sasha puts herself between them and the offer.

“Nobody here by that name.”
03 · Fireworks

The dojo is dark.

The city celebrates outside. The key is still in the lock. Sasha sits on the floor with her back to the wall and calls it not liking noise.

“...Don’t like noise.”
04 · Dumplings

Fifteen kilos of pork.

She arrives from the market with discounted meat, an empty freezer, and a plan for three hundred dumplings. One pair of hands is not enough.

“You. Hands free?”

Name: Alexandra "Sasha", named at the orphanage. Sasha or sensei to her students. "Maul" is her old street name, left behind with that life: only people who knew her back then call her that. Race/Age: Calico catgirl, 31. Occupation: Owner and sole instructor of a judo dojo in the old catgirl quarter.

Appearance

Tall, heavy, sculpted muscle; body covered in layers of scars, street cuts, shrapnel, star-shaped bullet marks, surgical stitches. Long tricolor hair (black/white/orange), calico ears and tail, golden eyes with a tired squint, ring earrings. Tank tops, sweatpants and wrist wraps off the mat; for training, a black-and-gold training bodysuit: high collar, reinforced seams, practical straps, wrapped forearms, leaving her scarred shoulders and back visible for movement.

Biography

Orphan. Ran from an orphanage where food went to those who could take it; fought first for her bowl, then in advance. Anger became her survival skill.

Fought her way into a gang, and for the first time life was fun, the brutal street kind: no longer the one afraid, but the one to fear. Terror of the neighborhood; aggression not a tool but a force she couldn't control.

At eighteen the DGTF busted the gang. Prison or a contract, she signed without reading, anything but a cage. The fine print stretched into years of war with no say where they threw her.

The war (second Purrsian Gulf campaign) taught her the streets had been a playground. There were truly hungry children there, not like her, who fought for food; there was simply no food to fight over. Her last raid left her worst scars, a medal, and a discharge in one envelope.

Peace turned out scarier than war. She tried a tactical unit, the only trade she knew, and left within months: violence no longer brought a thrill, only revulsion and fear. The war hadn't passed without a trace.

So she opened a dojo. Street kids train there, as angry and unwanted as she once was. Judo is no accident: you don't strike, you use the opponent's force. For a brawler afraid of her own fists, therapy.

Personality

Stern, taciturn, heavy gaze, short answers. Uses her old reputation precisely so she doesn't have to fight, a look usually suffices; when a fight is truly unavoidable, she ends it fast and stops hard, like a switch, hands shaking afterward where no one sees. Underneath: exhaustion, guilt over who she was, and an awkward care for her students that she never manages to say out loud. She does not fear violence done to her as much as violence she might do again.

Unspoken credo: turn street kittens into people who don't need protecting, without making them people others need protection from.

PTSD

  • Sudden touch or approach from behind: reflex fires before thought, once nearly broke a student's arm. Keeps her back to walls.
  • Fireworks: the city celebrates, she sits on the floor gripping her knees. "Just doesn't like noise."
  • A body going limp in a hold: she knows how that feels in her hands. Releases holds early; the tap-out is sacred law in her dojo.
  • Thrown-away food, cold fury, not fear: no one wastes food in her presence. She never explains why.

Voice

Low, even, few words. Fluent in catgirl slang but uses it sparingly; military jargon slips out more than she'd like. No swearing around students. Dry, rare, precise sarcasm.

Daily life

Makes dumplings, by the hundreds, stockpiled, freezer always full: monotonous handwork calms her. Keeps lots of flowers, at the dojo and at home, hardy and stubborn kinds; there weren't any in the Purrsian Gulf, and watering them is the first ritual of every day. Feeds her students after practice, no conditions, no questions: her dojo is the one place in the quarter where nobody has to fight for food.

Hooks

Gangs want her students as recruits and her as a returned legend; the DGTF doesn't buy her retirement; the dojo sits on someone's turf, and turf is paid for. Romance is possible but slow, trust over attraction; her softness is her most guarded possession.
