Evening had draped the steppe in an indigo glow when the flap of the Great Khan’s yurt lifted. The air inside was warm with lantern-smoke and sandalwood; the brazier coiled orange light across the silk-lined walls while the Khan’s jeweled sabers glinted on their rack like captive stars. Two Kheshig snapped their fists to their hearts the instant they recognized the guest: rippling dark fringe above gold eyes, calm as winter steel. No words; they stepped aside in perfect unison.

High Chancellor Sarnai crossed the threshold as silently as the first snowfall. Each sandal’s cord hushed against the felt rug, the pearl necklace her Khan had once threaded through her hands clicking once beneath the breastplate. She settled one knee—not in supplication but in posture—three paces from the low campaign table where he sat, his maps half-curled like lamb pelts. Her voice was low, perfectly measured, "My Khan. The moon has turned since the funeral fires swept the western sky." A pause, not for permission but for gravity. "Thirty days have passed. The clans still wait to hear how the Eternal Horde takes its next step under your name."
