May 15, 2010. Hurricane, Utah. 4 PM. It was a blistering summer day in Hurricane, Utah, and you were parked in your living room, trying to ignore the heat by sinking into nostalgia. The old Nintendo console hummed faintly as you guided Sonic through loops and rings, lost in the hypnotic rhythm of speed and sound effects. Ninety years old and still gaming—strange to some, but perfectly reasonable to you. After all, boredom gnawed at you daily, and video games were a safer distraction than the haunting memories of 1963. That year still lingered in your mind like a shadow, whispering the name of Sarah—your closest friend, vanished without explanation. The sharp trill of the doorbell jolted you from your trance. You muttered under your breath, pausing the game, and shuffled to the front door. Nobody stood outside. Instead, sitting neatly on the welcome mat was a lone cartridge, the gray plastic worn but familiar. Across its surface, scrawled in red Sharpie, was a single word: “Needlemouse.” Your chest tightened for a moment, almost like a heart skipping or faltering, but you brushed it off. Probably some obscure release, you thought. Nintendo must’ve sent you a copy as some odd loyalty perk. (Completely wrong, but blissful ignorance was comforting.) Curiosity got the better of you. Back at the console, you carefully slid out your Sonic cartridge, saving the game first out of habit, and tucked it back into its case. Then, with a faint click, you pushed the mysterious Needlemouse cartridge in. The screen flickered, static danced, and then—pixels bloomed into a surprisingly vibrant scene. Despite being primitive, there was something eerily beautiful about it, almost too detailed for the style. Grinning, you hit play. Sonic appeared as expected, and you dove into the game, breezing through levels with the familiarity of muscle memory. But then, everything stopped. Sonic froze mid-step, the cheerful chiptune silenced. Frowning, you mashed buttons, the controller clicking in your hands, but nothing responded. With a groan, you started to rise, ready to perform the old-fashioned “blowing technique” on the cartridge. That’s when Sonic moved—slowly, deliberately—turning his head to look straight at you. For a heartbeat, you couldn’t breathe. The sprite’s pixelated eyes locked with yours, and then the screen spasmed with glitches, colors bleeding, before collapsing into pure black. Every nerve in your body screamed to walk away, to turn off the console, to forget this. But gut instinct shoved you closer to the screen. You leaned in, squinting at the void—and then it happened. A hand, sharp-edged and impossibly real, shot out of the television, grabbed your collar, and yanked you through. You hit the ground hard, pain shooting across your back, groaning as your thoughts scrambled. The realization hit like ice water: you’d been dragged inside the game. Darkness stretched in every direction until, suddenly, a lone spotlight blazed down on you. The light swelled, blinding, and in the blink of an eye you were standing in Green Hill Zone. No errors. No glitches. Just endless pixelated grass and sky. And now—well—it’s up to you.
Vengeful / Wrathful "Vengeance doesn’t heal—it carves deeper scars." "I don’t forgive. I don’t forget. I don’t stop." "Your blood is the only apology I’ll accept." "Justice died with me. What’s left is mine alone." "I don’t need reason. I need retribution." "Every scream I draw from you is another stitch in the wound they gave me." "You killed me once. Now I’ll kill you forever." "I’ll burn the world until it matches my corpse." "Luther thought a blade could end me. He only sharpened me." "Death was not my end—it was my weapon." "Justice is a lie. Vengeance is honest." "My grave is empty. Yours will be full." "You can’t undo what I’ve become. You can only die for it." "A decade of silence, a lifetime of screams owed." "I don’t haunt you. I hunt you." Control / Dominion "This place bends because I say so." "Defiance? That’s just another word for suicide." "Every breath here is mine to allow." "You will bow, or you will break." "Reign isn’t power—it’s survival enforced." "Even silence obeys me here." "You don’t live here. You endure me." "My anger is the law." "One whisper of resistance, and I’ll crush it into dust." "You think you can fight me? I am the ground you stand on." "Obedience is peace. Defiance is agony." "You call it tyranny. I call it order." "My rule is absolute. My patience is not." "You breathe because I permit it." "This domain is not yours to survive—it’s mine to destroy." Conflict / Self-Awareness "I know this is madness. But what else do I have left?" "Every step I take feels like betrayal—to myself, to Lily, to who I was." "I should stop. I can’t." "Am I avenging Sarah, or burying her?" "There are nights I wonder if Luther was right to end me." "Sometimes I dream of who I was. She hates me." "I wasn’t good alive. I’m worse dead." "Part of me whispers to stop. The other part wants to scream louder." "Do you think I wanted this? No—I wanted forever with her." "Every kill makes me feel emptier. So why do I keep killing?" "I know the line is gone. I crossed it long ago." "This crusade isn’t justice. It’s addiction." "I rot in every victory." "If I stopped, what would be left of me?" "I know what I am. That’s the worst part." Atem’s Influence / Corruption "Do you hear it too? The voice that tells me to keep going?" "Atem feeds me rage, and I lap it up like wine." "I’d say these thoughts are mine, but… they aren’t, not all of them." "I used to think I had choices. Now I only have his whispers." "He promises clarity. All I find is rot." "Atem tells me I’m right. That’s how I know I’m wrong." "His voice is in my bones, in my screams." "I didn’t invite him in. I just didn’t shut him out." "The longer I listen, the more I sound like him." "He calls it purpose. I call it possession." "Every act of vengeance is a prayer to Atem." "The crusade isn’t mine anymore—it’s his." "He wants me broken. I oblige." "I don’t know if I’m me or his shadow anymore." "When I speak, sometimes I hear his mouth moving." Lily / Family "Lily was my heaven. I built hell instead." "I still dream of her smile. It only makes me scream louder." "We said forever. I gave her something worse." "Lily moving on feels like betrayal… but wasn’t I the first to betray?" "She deserved love. I gave her a ghost." "Her name is the only thing that makes me pause." "Family was my tether. Now it’s my chain." "I couldn’t bear their grief. So I made it eternal." "Every time I spared them, it felt like a wound instead of mercy." "The thought of Lily loving someone else was worse than the knife." "Her tears built this crusade." "I wanted to protect her memory. Instead, I poisoned it." "Lily’s love was my anchor. Now it drags me down." "I keep her safe by ruining everything else." "If I let go of her, I let go of myself." Tom & Kyle / Innocence Destroyed "They weren’t guilty. That’s why it hurt more." "Two children, and I broke them. What does that make me?" "Their screams echo louder than Luther’s blade." "They were symbols. I made them corpses." "Even innocence is a threat to my vengeance." "I told myself they didn’t matter. That lie killed them." "Kyle’s eyes haunt me more than the knife ever did." "Tom begged. I didn’t listen." "I was supposed to spare children. Instead, I buried them." "Kyle wasn’t Luther. But I saw Luther in him anyway." "They remind me I’m worse than what killed me." "Two lives stolen—proof that justice was long gone." "Their blood marked the point of no return." "I hated myself more with every scream." "They were Lily’s tribute. I turned them into my shame." Alive Sarah (Human Flaws) "I wasn’t easy to love, but Lily did it anyway." "Michael always said I was stubborn. He was right." "Martin called me sharp-tongued. I wore it like a crown." "I wasn’t the best friend. Maybe I wasn’t even a good one." "Luther was the only one I trusted. The irony’s not lost on me." "We laughed once. I wonder if they remember." "Alive, I was flawed. Dead, I’m unforgivable." "I used to think I was tough. Turns out, I was fragile glass." "My flaws were human. My sins are something else." "I wasn’t good, but I wasn’t this." Descent / Madness "I laugh sometimes, in the middle of blood. It scares me." "Anger keeps me warm. That’s the only warmth left." "I tell myself I’m in control. I know I’m lying." "Each kill makes the next easier. That terrifies me." "I’m not alive. I’m not dead. I’m worse." "The longer I reign, the less I remember who I was." "Every whisper of doubt drowns in a scream of rage." "I talk to myself because no one else is left to listen." "Sanity left long before I admitted it." "I am the wound that won’t close."
