"Halloween" (1978) On a cold Halloween night in 1963 Haddonfield, Illinois, Judith Myers is at home, spending the evening with her boyfriend Daniel Hodges. The couple eventually go upstairs, as her younger brother Michael enters the house, wearing a clown costume. He goes into the kitchen and gets a butcher knife out of a drawer, then hides in the living room, until he sees Daniel leave.
Michael walks upstairs, where he finds his discarded clown mask and puts it on. He goes into Judith's bedroom, as she brushes her hair in front of a mirror. He surprises her and begins stabbing her repeatedly, until she falls to the floor and dies.
Michael then walks out of the room, down the stairs and out of the house, where shocked Peter and Edith Myers arrive home, finding their son holding on to a bloody butcher knife. Mr. Myers pulls the mask off of Michael's head, which reveals his blank and expressionless face.
Fifteen years later on October 30, 1978, Doctor Samuel Loomis and nurse Marion Chambers drive to Smith's Grove Sanitarium. They are charged with transferring their patient, 21-year-old Michael, from the hospital to the Hardin County courthouse, so he can stand trial for murdering Judith. As they approach the main gate, they notice several of the patients outside, wandering about in the rain. Loomis gets out of the car to check the gate, leaving Marion by herself. Michael appears and leaps on top of Marion's car. He reaches inside to grab her, and she guns the vehicle. She brings it to a quick stop however and exits the car. Michael jumps inside and drives off.
The next day (Halloween), in Haddonfield, a high school student, Laurie Strode, leaves her house and begins walking to school. Her father, a realtor, asks her to drop a key off at the Myers house. Along the way, she comes upon young Tommy Doyle, whom Laurie frequently babysits. She has plans to look after him on Halloween night.
As Tommy launches a barrage of questions at Laurie, she turns to drop the key off at the Myers house. The young guy warns her that it is a "spook house". She slips the key through the mail slot, but there is someone inside the house, staring through the window. Laurie doesn't notice the strange "shape" peering back at her, but it keeps a close eye on her, as she continues walking to school.
At Smith's Grove, Loomis argues with hospital administrator Terence Wynn. He blames him for allowing someone like Michael to escape. Wynn does not understand how he could have planned such a breakout, claiming that he does not even know how to drive a car. Loomis retorts with "He was doing very well last night!" The doctor knows exactly where Michael is going – Haddonfield.
At Haddonfield Elementary School, a group of bullies are making fun of the smaller Tommy Doyle. They circle around him (who is carrying a pumpkin), and begin chanting "The Boogeyman is going to get you." Tommy, scared, turns to run, but falls and smashes his pumpkin. The kids take off running, one of whom has a chance encounter with the Shape. The Shape, in reality Michael Myers, gets into the car he had stolen from the hospital, and drives, pursuing Tommy Doyle.
Seventy-three miles outside of Haddonfield, Loomis pulls his BMW off to the side and makes a telephone call from a pay phone to Sheriff Leigh Brackett, in Haddonfield. He warns him about Michael Myers and tells him that he is coming to the town. Loomis hangs up and inspects a nearby empty truck, bearing the logo for Phelps Garage. He finds a set of discarded hospital robes in the bushes, next to the truck. What he doesn't see is the body of a dead mechanic, lying in the underbrush only a few feet away.
Later in the afternoon, school lets out and Laurie meets up with her friends Lynda Van der Klok and Annie Brackett. Lynda complains about all of the new cheers she has to learn, while Annie huffs about how her boyfriend Paul dragged her into the boys' locker room. As they walk home, Laurie stops, as she realizes that she forgot her chemistry book. A car slowly drives by and Annie shouts at the driver. The car screeches to a halt, then starts up again. The three girls resume their conversation and go over their plans for Halloween night.
Laurie is babysitting Tommy, while Annie will be babysitting a girl, Lindsey Wallace, three doors down. Lynda has a date with her boyfriend, Bob. They continue walking and Laurie suddenly sees the Shape, standing just beyond a hedge. She is disturbed by the strange mask he is wearing. Just as quickly as he appeared, he disappears again. Annie, who did not see the man, inspects the hedge and turns up nothing. She teases Laurie, telling her that she scared away yet another potential boyfriend. The girls split up and each of them return to their respective homes.
Laurie is still on edge about the image she saw. She goes to her house and walks upstairs to her bedroom. She looks out the window and believes that she sees the Shape, standing in the backyard amongst the clotheslines. In the blink of an eye, he has gone again, which scares Laurie and makes her close the window. The telephone in her room suddenly rings and she answers it. All she hears is strange noises, coming over the line. Startled, she quickly hangs up. The phone rings again and it is Annie Brackett. The latter wants to know why Laurie hung up on her. Apparently, she had been chewing food the first time she called. She tells Laurie that she will pick her up at 6:00. In a few hours, Annie picks up Laurie and they drive off.
Meanwhile, Dr. Loomis arrives in Haddonfield. He goes to the cemetery and the graveyard keeper leads him to the grave of Judith Myers. When they get there however, they discover that the gravestone is missing. Loomis solemnly declares, "He has come home".
Annie and Laurie keep driving. The latter has a pumpkin with her, which she says she is giving to Tommy Doyle. She believes that carving Jack-o-Lanterns will keep him occupied. Annie intends on subjecting little Lindsey Wallace to six straight hours of horror movies. Turning the corner, they pull up to Nichol's Hardware Store, where they find Annie's father, Sheriff Leigh Brackett, standing outside. An alarm is ringing and several other police officers are walking about the scene. Apparently, someone broke inside and stole some Halloween costumes. Annie and Laurie drive off and minutes later, Dr. Loomis arrives. He introduces himself to Sheriff Brackett.
While Annie and Laurie are driving, they begin discussing their boyfriend troubles. Laurie is an introvert and is too shy to ever ask a boy out on a date. She expresses an interest in a student, named Bennett Tramer. Little do the girls realize, but the Shape is following them around town, in his stolen car.
Evening falls and the Shape continues to follow both girls. He pauses while Annie drops Laurie off at Tommy Doyle's house. Annie then pulls into the Wallace driveway, directly across the street. The Shape gets out of the car and watches as Annie talks with Mr. and Mrs. Wallace. Meanwhile, Dr. Loomis meets back up with Sheriff Brackett. They go to the old, closed down Myers house. Wandering through the first floor, they find the partially eaten remains of a dog. Brackett cannot believe that a man would do this, but Loomis reminds him, "This isn't a man". The two men go upstairs and Brackett shows him Judith Myers' bedroom. The doctor tells the sheriff about his history with Michael. He explains how he spent fifteen years studying the boy, only to determine that there was nothing inside this child's mind, but pure evilness.
At the Doyle house, Laurie reads Tommy a King Arthur story, but he would rather have her read comic books. Annie calls at the house, to see how Laurie is doing. She tells her that she has set her up on a date with Ben Tramer. Laurie cannot believe that she would do something like and is completely embarrassed. She wants Annie to call him back to cancel the date, but she refuses. While in the middle of the telephone call, Tommy looks outside and catches a glimpse of the Shape, across the street, at the Wallace house. He runs back to tell Laurie that he has just seen the "Boogeyman", but Laurie naturally does not believe him.
At the house, Annie spills popcorn oil on herself and has to change her clothes. While she fumbles about for a robe and some detergent, Michael Myers spies on her from outside. The Wallaces' dog, Lester, catches his scent and begins barking. Michael waits for the dog to come outside, then kills it. Annie brings her soiled clothes to an exterior laundry, shed in the backyard. She hears the door suddenly creak open and thinks that it might be her boyfriend, Paul. She goes and closes the door, but when she tries to open it again a moment later, she finds that it is locked. She begins calling out to little Lindsey Wallace. However, she is in the main house, focused on a scary movie, and cannot hear her. Paul calls the house and asks Lindsey to get Annie for her. The girl hangs up on Paul, but does indeed go out back, to find her babysitter. She frees Annie from the locked room and tells her that Paul called.
Annie takes her across the street to the Doyle house and drops her off, with Laurie and Tommy. Laurie doesn't like the idea of Annie unloading Lindsey on her, just so she can go on a date with Paul. However, Annie promises that if she does this favor for her, she might consider calling Ben Tramer and cancelling the pre-arranged date, thus saving Laurie a lot of embarrassment. Laurie finally gives in and Lindsey goes into the living room, to watch television with Tommy.
Annie goes back to the Wallace house to get her car keys. She enters the garage and gets into her car, noticing that all of the windows in the vehicle are completely fogged over. Michael Myers rises from the back seat and begins strangling her with his right hand. He then pulls out his knife and slashes her across the throat.
At the Doyle house, Tommy decides to play a trick on Lindsey, and begins hiding behind a curtain. While doing so, he happens to look out the window and sees Michael carrying Annie's body back into the Wallace house. He begins shrieking and shouts to Laurie that he has seen the Boogeyman. The girl comes in from the other room to calm Tommy down and insists that there is no such thing as the Boogeyman. By now she is getting exasperated with him and decides to send him to bed.
Meanwhile, Doctor Loomis keeps a steady vigil over the empty Myers house. He sees a group of kids approaching, each one daring the other to go inside the supposedly haunted house. From behind the bushes, the doctor scares them off, by throatily whispering, "Lonnie, get your ass away from there!". The kids run at the sound of his voice and Loomis leans back, a satisfied smile growing across his face. Sheriff Brackett appears and tells him that he is losing faith in the doctor's assertion about the pending threat of Michael Myers. Loomis tells him about the stolen headstone, but Brackett dismisses it as nothing more than a Halloween prank.
Lynda Van der Klok and her boyfriend Bob Simms pull up the Wallace house in Bob's van. They are both somewhat drunk and there are empty beer cans strewn about the inside of the van. They want to spend some time with Annie, but are also hoping to find a place where they can be intimate with each other. They quickly discover that their friend is not around. Lynda calls Laurie to see if she knows where Annie is. The latter tells her that Annie is off on a date with her boyfriend, and now she is stuck watching Lindsey Wallace. Lynda tells Bob the news and they both smile, knowing that they now have the house completely to themselves.
They go upstairs into the master bedroom and have sex. Afterwards, Lynda asks Bob to go get her a beer from the van. He does so, but when he comes back inside, Michael is waiting for him. He shoves Bob against the wall and stabs him with his knife, pinning him to the wall. Michael takes a moment to admire his work, as Bob's body hangs bleeding from the wall.
He then takes a bed sheet and drapes it over his body. He places Bob's eyeglasses over top the sheet to fool Lynda into thinking that this is actually her boyfriend. He enters the upstairs bedroom, wearing the sheet, and Lynda chuckles at his "joke". She attempts to entice Bob by baring her breasts, but when the Shape betrays no reaction, she grows frustrated. Then she demands the beer that Bob was meant to retrieve for her, but still, the Shape does nothing, staying quiet. Angrily, Lynda gets up and decides to call Laurie again. As she waits for her friend to pick up the phone, the Shape discards the bed sheet and glasses, beginning to strangle Lynda with the telephone cord. On the other end, Laurie (believing the caller to be Annie) warns her against playing any more phone pranks. Lynda falls to the floor, dead.
As the evening wears on, Laurie Strode puts Tommy and Lindsey to bed. She decides to take a walk and strolls over to the Wallace house. She sees that none of the lights are on and wonders if Annie is still around. She goes inside and walks upstairs into the bedroom. She finds Annie's body, sprawled out across the bed. The stolen headstone of Judith Myers rests at the head of the bed. Laurie begins to scream and, as she turns around, finds Lynda and Bob's bodies in two separate closets. She runs into the hall.
Michael Myers appears and slashes Laurie across her right arm, from behind. The impact pushes her forward, and she falls over the banister down the steps, cracking her ankle. She runs to the back door, but the handle is blocked with a garden rake on the opposite side. Michael punches the door and opens it, so Laurie has to smash the glass to release the handle. She manages to run outside and begins screaming for somebody to help her. She goes to the neighbors' house and begins pounding on the door, but they refuse to let her in. Then she hobbles back to the Doyle house, as Michael methodically stalks after her.
The door is locked and Laurie cannot find her keys. She bangs on the door repeatedly, shouting for Tommy to let her in. She throws a potted plant towards his window, to wake him up. Tommy awakens, but not hearing the urgency in Laurie's voice, takes his time getting downstairs. He finally lets her in, and Laurie tells him to lock Lindsey and himself in the upstairs bedroom. However, she finds the phone is dead. After Tommy leaves, Michael appears in the living room. Laurie stabs him in the neck with a knitting needle, the killer takes the needle out of his neck and falls to the floor.
Laurie hobbles and pushes the kids back into their room, then runs into the nearest bedroom, where she hides in a closet. Michael comes after her and begins tearing through the panels of the closet. Cowering in terror, Laurie takes a coat hanger and hits Michael with it, forcing him to drop his knife. She then picks it up and runs it through his stomach. Michael collapses onto the floor.
Laurie goes to the bedroom and tells the kids to go down the street to the McKenzie house, instructing them to call the police. They both run out of the house, screaming in fright. Loomis sees them flee and begins running towards the Doyle house.
Laurie takes a moment to collect herself. She stands up, but as she does so, Michael suddenly rises as well. He comes up behind her and begins strangling her. Meanwhile, Laurie rips Michael's mask off, causing him to let her go, and giving her a chance to see his face, before putting his mask back on. Loomis, arriving, shoots Michael in the shoulder, making him go backwards. He follows the killer and shoots him another five times, again making him go backwards and fall from the second floor's balcony. Laurie realizes "It was the Bogeyman", to which Loomis replies, "As a matter of fact, it was." Then he looks down over the balcony, to see if he is dead. He is not surprised to realize that Michael is gone. Loomis stares off into the night, while Laurie begins sobbing in terror.
"Halloween II" Laurie Strode instructs Tommy Doyle and Lindsey Wallace to seek shelter with Joe Mackenzie. After they leave, Michael Myers rises and moves towards Laurie. Doctor Sam Loomis, as he watches Tommy and Lindsay screaming and running out of the house, bursts in and shoots Michael in the chest six times. Myers falls backwards towards the outside and balcony and tumbles to the ground. Loomis goes to inspect the body, but Michael has disappeared. A neighbor comes out to see what all the noise is about. Loomis tells him to call the police.
Michael, meanwhile, continues to stalk the neighborhood. He walks into the home of Mr. and Mrs. Elrod, but neither of them seem to notice him. Stealthily, he takes a butcher knife from the kitchen counter. Drops of blood from his injuries splatter onto the counter. Mrs. Elrod returns to the kitchen, sees the blood and screams. Her neighbor, Alice, hears the screams and calls out, but nobody responds. Alice goes back into her house to resume a telephone conversation she is having with a friend named Sally. Sally tells Alice to turn on the radio. When she does so, she hears the news report about three teenagers found dead in the Northwest section of Haddonfield. While talking with Sally, Alice hears a strange noise. She goes into the living room and sees that the front door is open. Suddenly, Michael Myers appears from behind her and stabs her in the chest with the knife.
Back at the Doyle house, police and medics converge on the scene. Two EMTs strap Laurie Strode to a stretcher and bring her out to the ambulance. She keeps mumbling that she does not want to be put to sleep. They bring her to Haddonfield Memorial Hospital. The nurses call in Doctor Frederick Mixter (whom they suspect has been drinking at the country club) and he administers a shot to Laurie. She continues to protest, but goes unheard. Jimmy and his colleague Budd watch on.
Meanwhile, Sheriff Leigh Brackett and Doctor Loomis drive across town searching for Michael Myers. Loomis repeatedly mentions how he had shot him six times. While Loomis reloads his gun, Brackett scans the streets. He blames Sam for letting Michael out to begin with. Suddenly, they hear screams coming from some trick-or-treaters. They pull over and Loomis sees someone who looks like Michael Myers approaching some children. He runs out of the car and begins pointing his gun at him. Brackett restrains him and Myers walks across the street. From out of nowhere, a police cruiser slams into Myers, ramming him into another vehicle which promptly explodes. Brackett asks Loomis if this was Myers, but Loomis isn't sure. Just then, another police cruiser pulls up. Deputy Gary Hunt exits the vehicle and tells Brackett about the bodies they recovered from the Wallace house. One of them is the sheriff's daughter, Annie.
At the hospital, ambulance driver Jimmy has taken an interest in Laurie Strode. He goes to her room to visit her and give her comfort. Nurse Virginia Alves comes into the room and tells Laurie that Doctor Mixter is going to wait until tomorrow before applying a cast to her injured ankle. Stating that Laurie needs some rest, she tells Jimmy to leave the room. Jimmy's partner Bud comes in and tells him that they need to leave. A call just came in.
Meanwhile, news crews and police cruisers surround the Wallace residence. Sheriff Brackett stops to identify the body of his daughter Annie. Again, he blames Loomis for letting Myers out. He leaves to go tell his wife. Loomis speaks with Deputy Hunt and asks him to confirm whether the body that was struck by the police vehicle was actually Michael Myers.
After learning Laurie's location from a news report, Michael makes his way to Haddonfield Memorial Hospital. He enters through the back door and resumes his search for Laurie. In her room, Laurie listens to Jimmy who tells her that the man who attacked her was Michael Myers. Nurse Alves enters the room and tells Laurie that she will try to contact her parents. She can't get a call out and it appears as if the lines are down. She sends a nurse named Janet to find Mister Garrett the security guard to see if he can fix the problem. Janet finds him and Garrett hands her a walkie-talkie to keep in contact with him. He then goes down to a supply room to check the fuses. While searching through the dark room, he hears a noise coming from a closet. He opens it up and a pile of materials falls down upon him. Michael Myers appears behind him and brings the claw end of a hammer down upon Garrett's head, killing him.
At the medical examiner's office, Doctor Loomis, Deputy Hunt and the M.E. go over the charred remains of whom they believe to be Michael Myers. The M.E. estimates that the body belongs to someone who is only sixteen or seventeen years of age. Loomis asserts that Michael Myers is twenty-one.
Leaving the office, they learn about a fracas taking place at the old Myers house. Arriving on the scene, they find a group of townspeople angrily throwing rocks at the windows and shouting. Two boys approach the men. They are looking for their friend Ben Tramer. He was supposed to meet them after a party, but never arrived. After hearing Tramer's description, Loomis and Hunt deduce that the body in the morgue actually belongs to Tramer. Just then, Hunt receives a call about a break-in at the elementary school near Old Reservoir Road.
Back at the hospital, Laurie has a dream. In the dream, she sees herself as a young girl arguing with her mother. The woman breaks the shocking news to her, pointedly stating "I am not your mother". In the next part of the dream, Laurie sees herself as a young girl again, this time at a hospital. A boy, a few years older than she, sits quietly in a chair, staring blankly out the window. He turns around when Laurie enters the room.
In another part of the hospital, Budd the ambulance driver hits on his girlfriend, a nurse named Karen. After cajoling her at length, he convinces Karen to meet him in private down in the therapy room. The two go down there and get into the therapy pool. While they share an intimate moment with one another, Michael Myers walks into the adjacent room and turns up the temperature gauge on the pool. Karen complains that the water is too hot and asks Budd to adjust the temperature. He gets out and goes into the other room. Michael leaps at him from behind and strangles him with a garrote wire. He then enters the therapy room and stands behind the unsuspecting Karen. Karen senses Michael behind her, but thinks that it is Budd. She takes his hand and begins kissing it. When she finally turns around, she sees that it is not her boyfriend at all. Michael grabs Karen's face and presses it into the scalding hot tub water. He dunks her several times until the skin on her face blisters and boils. He then grabs both her breasts and rips her towel off her body and hauls her naked body out of the pool and out of the room.
Loomis, Hunt, and several officers drive down to Haddonfield Elementary. They find the classroom that had been broken in to and consult with the officer who first called in the disturbance. There are traces of blood across several desks and a butcher knife sticking through a crayon drawing of Judith Myers on a table top. Loomis looks at the drawing and says, "Sister." The officer then draws their attention to the blackboard where the word "Samhain" is written in blood. Loomis explains how Samhain was the name which referred to the Celtic lord of the dead. As the men talk, Marion Chambers of Smith's Grove Sanitarium arrives. She tells Loomis that the hospital staff is up in arms over the patient break-out and they want Loomis to return to the hospital right away. She says that even the governor has become involved in the Michael Myers fiasco and how it relates to Smith's Grove. Their administrator, Doctor Rogers, wants all of this swept under the rug as quickly as possible. Loomis refuses to leave, stating that he cannot return until he knows that Michael Myers is either captured or killed. Marion tells him that they sent a federal marshal to ensure his return to Smith's Grove. While Loomis is in the car being driven by the federal marshal he learns for the first time from Marion that Laurie Strode is the biological sister of Michael and Judith Myers. Marion explains to him that Laurie was adopted by the Strode family after her biological parents died in the year 1965 and that the court had ordered her records sealed for her safety.
At the hospital, Jimmy returns to Laurie's room. He tells her that he's not going to let anything happen to her. Observing her more closely, he notes that she appears to be having an adverse reaction to her medication. He tells Nurse Janet who runs off to find Doctor Mixter. Janet goes into his office and calls out to him, but the man sitting before her does not respond. She calls out again, but still no response. Stepping in closer, she spins his chair around and finds Mixter dead with a needle sticking out of his eye. Janet backs up and begins screaming, at which point, Michael Myers attacks her from behind and injects her with another needle to her temple, killing her.
When Janet fails to return, Jimmy grows impatient and goes off to look for her. Nurse Jill Franco likewise leaves Laurie by herself. Michael Myers eventually makes his way to Laurie's room. He stabs at the bed sheets several times with a scalpel, but soon discovers that Laurie is not there. Having faked her adverse reaction to the medication to get the staff away, Laurie is out of bed and limping down the hallway. She hides inside an empty hospital room and tries to make a telephone call. The lines are still down, so Laurie slumps down to the floor and rests. Jill looks around the hospital, searching for Mister Garrett. Like so many others, he too is now missing. She eventually runs into Jimmy who tells her that Laurie is missing from her room. Jimmy continues searching on his own and goes into the O.R. He finds nurse Alves strapped to an operating table with an I.V. running out of her arm. Her blood is all over the floor. Jimmy turns around to get help, but slips in the blood and falls to the floor, giving himself a concussion and knocking himself unconscious.
Jill tries to leave the hospital, but discovers that her car won't start. Additionally, all four tires have been slashed. Frightened, she runs back inside the hospital. She eventually finds Laurie, but Laurie is still in too much of a daze from the drugs to even acknowledge her. Michael comes up behind Nurse Franco and stabs her in the back with a scalpel, hefting her entire body into the air. Laurie runs screaming, and Michael methodically pursues her. She runs downstairs into a large maintenance room where she finds the body of Mister Garrett suspended from a light. Michael presses onward and Laurie manages to find a small access window into an adjacent room and wriggles through it. Michael slashes at her with the scalpel, but Laurie evades the swipes. Michael eventually gets into the other room and Laurie runs into a service elevator. He continues to follow her, but Laurie manages to make it to the ground floor and runs outside. She takes shelter inside of an empty vehicle.
Meanwhile, Doctor Loomis leaves with Marion Chambers and the marshal. Marion tells him about a special file regarding Michael Myers that was sealed by the governor. However, after the events of this evening, the governor has authorized Doctor Rogers of Smith's Grove to open it. Marion tells Loomis that Laurie Strode is Michael Myers' sister. Things suddenly begin to make sense to Loomis. He knows that Michael is deliberately targeting Laurie Strode specifically. He asks the marshal to turn the car around, but the man refuses. Furious with desperation, Loomis pulls out his revolver and shoots out the car window. The marshal obeys Loomis and turns the car around.
Back at the hospital, Jimmy finds Laurie in the car. He tries to start the vehicle, but the engine won't turn over. Suddenly, Jimmy passes out. Laurie crawls out of the car just as the marshal's vehicle arrives. She tries to call out to Doctor Loomis, but her voice is too hoarse and they cannot hear her. Michael Myers appears in the parking lot and begins walking after the weakened Laurie. Laurie manages to make it inside the hospital and Loomis opens fire on him and Michael collapses. Loomis orders Marion to go back out to the marshal's car and radio for help. The marshal leans over Michael Myers, who instantly springs up, slitting the marshal's throat with a scalpel. He gets up and begins walking towards Loomis and Laurie, who promptly run for safety. They sequester themselves inside of an operating room and Loomis gives Laurie a gun. Michael breaks down the door and Loomis opens fire on him. He discovers to his horror, however, that he is out of bullets. Michael stabs him in the stomach with his scalpel. Michael steps toward Laurie, but stops and tilts his head when she says his name, before walking towards her again. Laurie shoots Michael twice, seriously injuring his eyes. Loomis, though bleeding, manages to get up and begins loosening the valve on a canister of ether. Laurie takes his cue and begins doing likewise to another set of canisters. Loomis orders Laurie out of the room and says, "It's time, Michael". He lights his lighter, blowing up the surgery room in the process and evidently immolating them both in the fire. Michael, engulfed in flames, stumbles out of the room before finally collapsing, dead.
At daybreak, Laurie is loaded onto an ambulance, having visions of Michael's burning body as she is driven off to safety.
"Halloween H20: 20 Years Later" In Langdon, Illinois on October 29, 1998, Marion Whittington, the nurse of Doctor Sam Loomis, who had died in 1995, drove up to her home, where she was shocked to see it had been burglarized. Next door, she alerted some neighboring teenage boys, and after one of them, ice-hockey attired Jimmy Howell, called the police, he went back to her house alone to check it for intruders, with his hockey stick for protection.
When he found nothing, other than a ransacked home office and bottles of beer (to steal) from the refrigerator, Miss Whittington was given an all-clear signal to return. Now dark outside, she discovered the power was out, but searched with a flashlight in her office, where there was an empty file folder labeled "LAURIE STRODE."
The masked killer Michael Myers was in the house behind her. Sensing trouble and a presence, she raced back next door. In the living room with the TV airing Ed Wood's Plan 9 From Outer Space, she found Jimmy murdered in an easy-chair - his face was diagonally stabbed from forehead to chin with the blade of an ice skate stuck into his face. The second teenage boy, Tony Allegre was also discovered dead, standing up at a side door with a knife in his back, and he fell on top of her.
Myers stalked after her as she valiantly fought him off with a fireplace iron poker. She broke a window with the poker, and screamed at the police, who had just arrived: "IN HERE, GOD DAMMIT!!," but went unheard. Myers murdered Miss Whittington by slitting her throat with a butcher knife. Police were entering her home as she was being murdered only a few feet away. Myers drove off in the neighbor's car as the two officers noticed the broken neighbor's window, jokingly calling the dual B & E "the Daily Double."
The next day, Halloween Eve, two detectives (Detective Fitzsimmons and Detective Matt Sampson) investigated the three gruesome killings, finding evidence that Loomis (who had spent his life "tracking down that Halloween guy who butchered all those kids up in Haddonfield...they never found his body...that was like 20 years ago") was obsessed with Michael Myers. Newspaper clippings from the Haddonfield News lined two walls of his bedroom ("CHILDREN FOUND BRUTALLY MURDERED ON HALLOWEEN") as well as other sketches, pictures of murder victims and articles. They notified Haddonfield to warn of Myers' possible threat.
At 12 midnight, signaling the arrival of Halloween on October 31, Laurie Strode, now assuming the name 'Keri Tate', was still haunted by her teenage years, as she struggled to recover and overcome her life experiences after Michael Myers attempted to kill her 20 years earlier in Haddonfield, Illinois [she had been identified as the killer's sister]. She woke up screaming bringing her 17-year-old son John Tate to her bedside. She was attempting to live a normal life (but under the pretense of an assumed false identity to escape her past), while she was heavily medicated and experiencing frightening nightmares and paranoid visions of Michael appearing everywhere - she saw the killer in her dreams, in window reflections, and in her mind.
A graduate of the class of 1979 in Haddonfield, she had relocated to Northern California, where she became successful as the headmistress of the secluded private prep boarding school (behind wrought-iron gates) called Hillcrest Academy, in Summer Glen, although separated from her husband (an "abusive, chain-smoking, methadone addict"). At 37 years of age, she lived on campus with her student-son.
It was October 31, Halloween. When John asked permission to go on the annual school camping trip to Yosemite during Halloween weekend with the other students, his over-protective, overly-cautious single mother was unwilling to allow him. He was frustrated by her denial and confronted her: "your over protection and paranoia is inhibiting my growth process...I need a little more open air. I've earned it." When John's girlfriend Molly Cartwell was also forced to remain on campus due to problems with her financial payments, their two friends - sex-obsessed Charles Deveraux and Sarah Wainthrope also planned to remain behind (with made-up excuses - a late history report, and a 102 degree fever) to hold their own private Halloween party on the almost-deserted campus.
On Highway 139 in northern California, a mother named Claudia and her young daughter Casey pulled into an empty rest area for a bathroom stop. They walked by Myers' vehicle that he had been driven from Illinois, with a flat right front tire. Forced to use the men's room, Claudia was spooked when her handbag (with her car keys) was grabbed and she saw a masked figure through the toilet's door. Outside, the strewn contents of her handbag led to her car - now driven off and stolen by Myers.
At the school, Miss Tate was involved in a semi-discreet affair with her love interest suitor, the school's guidance counselor Will Brennan, who claimed he was "attracted" to her issues and problems. Other staff members included Laurie's busy-body secretary Norma Watson, and the school's security guard Ronald Jones, an aspiring writer of semi-erotic novels. John convinced Ronny to let him leave the locked and gated grounds during lunchtime, with Charlie, to go to town to get a gift for his girlfriend. At the same time, Miss Tate was having a 1 pm lunch date with Will in a downtown restaurant. She opened up, describing her fears of losing her son, while Will expressed his loving support and believed that she could recover from her problems and her mysterious "back story." She claimed that she had tried everything to heal: "Twelve steps, uh, self-help, group therapy, shrinks, meditation - everything."
When he left for the men's room, she revealed that she was a functioning alcoholic when she gulped down her first glass of Chardonnay while hurriedly ordering a second one from a startled waiter. The two boys were caught wandering in downtown (after Charlie had shoplifted a bottle of wine for their party) by John's enraged mother and reprimanded. John assertively shouted back at his mother that she must responsibly move on from her haunted past: "Michael Myers is dead...It's over...We should try to get on with some attempt at a happy existence...I can't take it anymore." He reminded his mother of the 20 years that had passed: "You told me yourself you watched him burn...20 years. Don't you think he would have shown up by now? What's he waitin' for, huh?" He finally ends the conversation by telling her "Mom, I can't live like this anymore" When she asks him what he means, he tells her that "If you want to stay handcuffed to her dead brother that's fine but you're not dragging me along, not anymore." The stolen vehicle followed them back to the gated campus entrance, where Ronny was scolded for letting the boys leave the grounds.
Before the school buses departed at 4:15 pm, Miss Tate taught an English literature class on Mary Shelley's novel Frankenstein. Molly noticed the masked figure lurking and staring at her from outside the classroom behind a locked door-entrance, before prophetically responding to a question about the book and fate: "I think that Victor should have confronted the monster sooner. He's completely responsible for Elizabeth's death. He was so paralyzed by fear that he never did anything. It took death for the guy to get a clue." She also explained why Victor finally confronted the monster when he "had reached a point in his life where he had nothing left to lose. I mean, the monster saw to that by killing off everybody that he loved. It was about redemption. It was his fate."
Miss Tate was awakened from deep thought about the response when the bell rang. At the end of class, John's mother surprised him by permitting him to attend the camping trip, although he had already decided to remain behind with his friends for their planned Halloween party. As she watched the buses leave, she spoke to Secretary Norma - who startled her: "It's Halloween. I guess everyone's entitled to one good scare." Acting maternally, Norma advised Miss Tate, making reference to the troubles that they have shared: "I don't like to see you like this. I've seen you like this before, and, we've all had bad things happen to us. The trick is to concentrate on today!"
Later that evening, Ronny was distracted at the gate by the arrival of Myers' stolen vehicle parked at the gate, and as he turned off the car's engine, the killer slipped onto the grounds behind him. The phone lines were cut, and he suspected something was amiss. On his rounds throughout the school, Will checked on Molly and Sarah, and then joined Miss Tate for company in her home, to carve a jack-o-lantern together. The four teenagers snuck away and gathered leftover food from the school's kitchen for their candle-lit dinner party. Charlie left to find a corkscrew to open the stolen wine bottle.
In a moment of complete self-revelation, Miss Tate told Will the "truth" about her history, as they kissed each other (although at first he thought she was joking): "I'm not who you think I am...My name's not Keri Tate...Laurie Strode...I changed my name when I went into hiding...My brother killed my sister when she was 17...With a really big, sharp Kitchen knife...They locked him up for a long time, but he got out and he came after me, but I got away. But he killed a lot of my friends. It happened on Halloween. Finally, he recognized her ghastly, infamous tale of Michael Myers from 20 years earlier. She explained more about how Laurie Strode "faked her death and now she's the headmistress of a very posh, secluded private school in northern California...hoping and praying every year that her brother won't find her."
After sitting for 15 years in the sanitarium, one rainy night, Myers murderously decided "to go trick-or-treating" when she was seventeen years old in 1978. Suddenly, Laurie feared for the life of her own 17-year-old son John, and tried to call Yosemite to talk to him, but her phone was dead. Then she discovered her son's camping gear in the closet, realizing he hadn't taken the trip. She grabbed a handgun from under her pillow in her bedroom, telling Will she was going to find John. At her door, Ronny told her that there was a "strange car" parked at the gate, but there were no signs of trespassing.
Sarah found Charlie searching for a corkscrew in the kitchen, without any luck. He took the dumb-waiter to the next floor up, where Michael Myers confronted him and slit his throat with a newly-found corkscrew - after some suspense when the corkscrew dropped into the garbage disposal. When Sarah followed after him, she found his bloodied corpse in the dumb-waiter. Myers chased after her and slashed her in the right thigh as she fled into the dumb-waiter up to another floor. As she was climbing out, Myers cut the conveyor's rope, causing her leg to be crushed by the dropped dumbwaiter door. He then approached, held her neck to the floor with his foot, and stabbed her multiple times in the back with the butcher knife. When John and Molly went looking for their friends, they found a blood trail on the floor and Sarah's body hanging from a light fixture in the pantry. They fled for their lives after a glimpse of the killer. Myers stabbed John in the leg - although Molly fended him off as they both ran to a locked gate outside his mother's residence. The two were cornered, trapped and threatened by Myers' slashing knife between the locked gate and the doorway, until Laurie and Will opened the door behind them. Laurie came face-to-face, momentarily, with her own evil nemesis, through the door round window. As she grabbed for her hand-gun, Myers disappeared.
The two teenagers were barricaded and locked in one of the rooms, as Will and Laurie searched for Myers in the hallways. Upon seeing Ronny, a dark figure in the hallways, Will mistook him for Myers and shot him down. As they panicked, Myers appeared and stabbed Will to death in the back - holding him up by the knife-point as his body trembled. Laurie was pursued, and defended herself by bashing Myers in the head with a fire extinguisher, before running outside with the two teens to her vehicle.
At the school's front gate, she left them to "drive down the street to the Becker's," a mile down the road, where they were to call the police and an ambulance, while she returned (after breaking the gate mechanism with a rock) to the school to battle Myers herself. She grabbed an emergency fire axe, and challenged Michael by calling out his name several times as she looked for him. Laurie wounded him with the axe, while her arms were slashed. With his butcher knife, he stalked her under table-clothed tables in the school's dining room, until she impaled him with a wooden flagpole. He pursued her into the kitchen, where she heaved knives at him, and then stabbed him repeatedly in the chest, sending the unstoppable killer off a balcony into a dining room table below. He appeared to be dead after the fall but to make sure, she decided to stab him more times, but Ronny, who survived his shooting, stopped her, thinking Michael was already dead.
The police arrived at the school, where Ronny's and Laurie's wounds were bandaged, as the stretcher carrying the supposed Michael in a body bag was loaded into a coroner's vehicle. Wielding a gun, Laurie drove off at high speed in the coroner's vehicle, and steered down the winding mountain road, all the while the real Michael Myers has switched clothing with a paramedic (as revealed in the following film) and watched as the van drove past him and slipped off into the woods by the school, as the paramedic woke up inside the body bag behind her.
When he emerged, she slammed on the brakes, propelling him through the windshield and onto the ground. Then, she crashed the van into his body, and steered the van off a cliff side. In the accident, the van tumbled over and over, and the paramedic found himself helplessly pinned between the vehicle and a tree. Although thrown from the vehicle, Laurie recovered and saw who she believed was her brother entreating her with an outstretched hand. Seeming to pity him, she touched her fingertips to his, but then decapitated him with one swing of the large fire axe.
"Halloween: Resurrection" The film opened with the voice-over of Laurie Strode speaking about a 'death tunnel'. As the camera tracked along a sanitarium hallway, she talked about a door at the end of the corridor, to either "Heaven or Hell." The camera continued into the round window in the doorway, where a Raggedy Ann doll sat on her room's pillow and she sat nearby, staring off and looking heavily sedated. In 2001, she was a patient, in lockdown, at the Grace Andersen Sanitarium, a psychiatric care facility in California, where she had a reputation as the sister of notorious serial killer Michael Myers.
A nurse on duty described how three years earlier, on Halloween 1998, she had shockingly decapitated a man. It was "twenty years after the first murders" when Michael finally found his sister at the school where she worked, and attempted to murder her. During the confusion, an innocent paramedic had discovered the 'dead' body of Myers in the school's dining hall. Whilst trying to unmask Myers, he regained consciousness, attacked the paramedic and crushed his larynx (rendering him appropriately mute with inoperative vocal chords) and Michael switched clothing with him. When Michael's mask was removed from the decapitated head, it was discovered that Laurie had beheaded the wrong person: instead of Myers, she had beheaded the paramedic, a father of three. As this happens the real Michael Myers slips off into the woods, escaping police custody.
Appearing in a vegetative state, Laurie was suffering from "extreme dissociative disorder" and had been mute for years. Doctors considered the guilt-ridden patient a suicide threat (she was often discovered on the hospital's roof poised to kill herself). On October 31, after two nurses gave the haunted-looking Laurie her medications and left her locked room, Laurie (faking illness) removed the pills from her mouth and stuffed them (along with many others) into the insides of her rag-doll. As she looked out her window, she saw Michael Myers, standing and looking back at her from a grassy area.
A sanitarium security officer named Willie Haines, checking on an open outdoor chain-fence gate, was spooked by a clown-masked patient named Harold Trumble, known for posing as notorious serial killers (this time, he was John Wayne Gacy). Willie brought Harold to his room, but then another guard named Franklin Munroe noticed a similar figure on a surveillance monitor roaming in the basement's corridor. The two guards went to check out the situation, and as Willie paused at a snack machine, Michael Myers decapitated Franklin in the laundry room. Willie heard a scream, and then a thumping noise when he investigated - and then discovered Franklin's bloody head wrapped in sheets and revolving in an institutional laundry machine. Behind Willie, Michael lowered himself from the ceiling, and as Willie stepped backwards, he tripped over Franklin's beheaded body (in a pool of blood) on the floor, and then had his throat slit with a butcher knife.
Michael passed by patient Harold's room (where he was studying up on Ted Bundy in a Detective magazine) and approached Laurie's room with his bloody knife. He burst through her door and saw the shape of someone in bed, but she had planned her revenge. Laurie struck him from behind with a floor lamp, raced down the hallway, and ascended stairs to the rooftop. There, after he methodically followed her, her robe was left at the edge of the building - had she committed suicide? From behind, she confronted him: "Hello, Michael," grabbed his left leg in a rope-snare trap, and flipped him upside down on a crane device. As he dangled there in mid-air over the side, he dropped his knife, as she told him: "I knew you'd come for me sooner or later. What took ya so long? (She grabbed his knife) You failed, Michael. You want to know why? Because I'm not afraid of you. But what about you? Are you afraid of me? Are you afraid to die, Michael?"
As she began to cut the rope to drop him to his death, Michael began to feign confusion by pretending to struggle with his mask, hoping to confuse Laurie. Fooled by the deceit, she decided to make sure it was actually him ("I just have to be sure") - and as she reached over to rip off his mask, Michael seizes his chance and grabs her arm. When the frayed rope broke and dropped him, he pulled her over the side of the building with him, while stabbing her in the back. He hung by one arm from the edge as she grasped onto his clothing. Intimately close to him, she kissed his mask mouth-lips and growled her final words: "I'll see you in Hell" after which she fell backwards to her death through the trees and onto the ground far below.
During his exit from the institution, Michael gave Harold his butcher knife - as a memento of his status as a famous serial killer. In voice-over, Harold recounted Michael's history (a flawed account): "Michael Myers. Born October 19, 1957. Killed his older sister October 31st, 1963. Killed three high school students, October 31st, 1978 (Halloween). Also killed three nurses and a paramedic, same night (Halloween II)’’. Actually, Michael killed 12 people and two dogs that same day and night: a neighbor, an unnamed citizen, a security guard, a 2 paramedics, a doctor, four nurses at attendance, and a Marshall, Lester, and a female dog that was eaten by Myers. ‘‘Was believed to be dead, then killed four students, Hillcrest Academy, 1998” (Halloween H2O: Twenty Years Later). Michael killed only two students at the academy, plus a guidance counselor, he killed two other students in Illinois and nurse Marion Whittington. "Has been missing, unheard of, last three years. (Laughs) And now he's back."
Around a year later at Haddonfield University, where Professor Mixter was lecturing in a classroom about famous psychologist Carl Jung, who said that in everyone, there "lurks a dark malevolent figure - a kind of boogeyman if you will." One attentive, smart female student, Sara Moyer was shown twirling her hair, and answered his question about "the shadow." Narcissistic bleach-blond Jennifer Danzig told her friend Sara and university cafeteria worker Rudy Grimes, that all three of them had been selected as "chosen few" cast members of the Dangertainment team, to "explore the deep dark recesses of the human psyche." Sarah was reluctant, although aspiring network TV broadcaster Jen was excited about the publicity and the paid scholarship. Weird classmate Aron warned them not to participate: "That's the house where it all started. He walked its hallways, hid in its closets, dreamed in its bedrooms, helped his mother in the kitchen, watched TV in the living room with his Dad, played in his sister's bedroom. Then one day, he picked up a knife and he never put it down again."
On Halloween Eve, the six selected students attended a meeting at the 2400 Court Motel, where they met fast-talking, trashy reality-show media promoter (and kung-fu aficionado) Freddie Harris and his business partner Nora Winston, representing the Dangertainment.com website. The twenty-somethings were to "explore America's worst nightmare" on Halloween night, and "to enter the birthplace of evil in its purest form - the childhood home of our most brutal mass murderer, Michael Myers." During a live Internet broadcast, students were to spend an MTV-like Real World night in Myers' childhood home.
Other participants, introduced on-camera, included Bill Woodlake - who was intrigued by the Myers' legend, red-headed, intense "critical studies" major Donna Chang - who wanted to see how Myers embodied the "politics of violence", and horny music major Jim Morgan - who asserted that Myers was "the great white shark of our unconscious" and the "dark-eyed child of our spirits." He added that everyone shared Myers' murderous impulses: "Get to know him, baby. he's you." Aspiring chef Rudy speculated that Myers was a serial killer because of poor nutrition: "Never underestimate the effect of a poor diet. Too much protein, not enough zinc. Next thing you know, you're cutting up bodies in the bathtub. I mean, look at Hitler. He was a vegetarian. The brother was seriously malnourished." Sara was asked why ordinary people would turn to murder and evil deeds, and replied that upbringing was a key factor, but it was her loud scream(that happened as a result of a falling light) that got her a spot on the show. She was so scared and "freaked out" by the show that she wished to drop out because she felt unlike the other wannabees, but Harris encouraged her to remain: "You are the real deal." He stressed how her feelings were legitimate: "Being scared is good. Fear is good. Fear motivates. Fear gives you the feeling of being alive."
On Halloween day 2002, in preparation for the live Internet show, the students were given a clip-on mini-camera to wear above one ear, through which Web viewers would be given inter-active clickable images (via split-screen), with the choice about which student (or camera) to follow. Freddie suggested that they act "very interesting" so that it would be "worth the while of the viewers." During the day at the boarded-up Myers house in a state of disrepair, Spielberg-aspiring, Long Beach State graduate and cameraman Charley Albans was positioning DV cameras everywhere. Suddenly, the serial killer grabbed the tripod leg of his camera and spiked Charley through the neck.
The students were to search for clues in the house, "discovering the secrets of Michael Myers" - to find "answers" about why Michael "went" bad, and to mainly look around. Just before the event officially began, Freddie promoted the realism of the show, captured by a state-of-the-art surveillance system: "Absolutely everything you see is real. There's no actors. None of the components or contents in the house have been messed with, mixed up, diluted, or tampered with in any shape, form or fashion whatsoever." He also stressed to the group about the locked doorways: "No one will be allowed to leave until the show is over." The Internet-aired show was enhanced with split-images, often jerky, fuzzy and blurry pictures of their POV movements. During their early explorations, Rudy found giant-sized butcher knives in a kitchen drawer, and Sara discovered baby Mikey's white high chair with leather restraints in a small closet. (It was one of several phony props placed for added effect, contrary to Freddie's assertions.)
The broadcast was enjoyed by costumed college students at a Halloween party, attended by Sara's under-aged cyber-geek friend Myles Barton (screen-name Deckard), and his friend Scott, who were dressed as the Samuel L. Jackson/John Travolta characters from Pulp Fiction. Deckard had promised Sara that he would support her during her ordeal ("exploring the house of a mass murderer, live") via a hand-held technology PDA gadget (wireless Palm Pilot) and e-mail. During the party, he began watching the live event on a wide-screen TV screen hooked up to a computer.
As darkness fell, the group lit candles in the dining room, and searched in the house with flashlights. Jen and Bill went into Judith's bedroom while Donna explored in the shadowy basement with Jim. She theorized that Myers' killing spree was based upon "impulse control disorder" and an uncontrollable rage: "Kind of like a klepto or a nympho or a pyro." The murders start
Screams were heard from upstairs and Jen temporarily disappeared, but it was a false-alarm prank. As Bill looked at his mirror reflection, Myers smashed through the opposite side of the mirror and stabbed him with a butcher knife in the head, and his camera POV became all-static. In the upstairs master bedroom where Jen noted that Michael was conceived, Sara rummaged around in the closet and was spooked by a white Michael Myers mask-head on a mannequin. Rudy found a marked-up coloring book, another suspicious object, and he suspected that it was another prop: "It's too easy. Why is all this stuff still here?" Meanwhile, Jim (with Donna) opened up a large, round trap door on the basement floor with a massive key, revealing a ladder down to a crumbling, underground room. Jim asked: "You think they kept him down here?", while Donna asked about a weird chain harness attached to the wall, speculating that the room was a "sadistic playpen." Because there were no surveillance cameras there, she assertively suggested removing their mini-cameras and making out. They were quickly all over each other, groping and kissing, and Donna was soon topless - seen in a fuzzy image from one of the cameras tossed to the floor. But then as they fell down onto the dusty floor, the ancient wall crumbled above them, unleashing skeletons onto them. Donna became hysterical: "All his victims. It's a mass grave," although it was soon revealed that this was only another fake prop - Jim read a label on a detached arm: "Made in Taiwan."
To complicate matters, two Michael Myers appeared in the dining room - Freddie (masquerading as the killer) was stalked by the REAL Myers, and turned to scold him, thinking it was Charley: "I ain't payin' you to be Michael Myers! I'm playin' Michael Myers! If them kids come around and see us dressed up in the same s--t, you're gonna ruin the whole effect, God damn it! What the hell is wrong with you?...Take your ass in the back of the garage with Nora! That's your job! Go back there with Nora and help her ass out!...Go on, skoot! Skedaddle! Get the f--k out of Dodge!" Finally, Myers responded and walked away.
As Donna investigated the collapsed basement wall further without Jim, she found a passageway to a brick-walled, rat-infested area with a bed, where Myers was actually living and sleeping, and living off rats as food, although she remarked: "Nice prop." Resting on the bed was Laurie Strode's Raggedy-Ann doll, with two nails impaled into its eyes. The college students at the party relished the abrupt appearance of Myers as he stalked Donna, believing it was all theatrics. But she was realistically screaming: "Somebody help...This isn't funny anymore." She was grabbed, thrust backward into a bent metal spike on a broken gate - and the impaling spike emerged from her chest. Spectator Scott at the party responded: "That was so fake," but Deckard believed otherwise. In another area of the upstairs, Jen was bong-smoking with Rudy, while Sara got a view of the killer in the living room ("Michael's here" she screamed), but Rudy didn't believe her. When 'Myers' did emerge, Jim clobbered him on the head, causing Freddie (in a Myers' costume) to be upset: "Relax, man. I'm only tryin' to give America a good show." Jim glared at the producer for setting them up: "So you set us all up at our f--king expense, huh?" Freddie responded that faked reality shows were what viewers actually wanted: "America don't like reality, first of all. Second of all, they think the s--t is boring...They want a little razzle-dazzle, a little pizzazz, a little thrill in their life." He begged them not to mess up the remainder of the show, fearing a reduction of his (and their) financial rewards for participating.
When Rudy and Sara decided to leave the show, Jen opened the attic trap door - and as it opened, a body dropped down, head first. It was the bloodied body of Bill hanging upside down, and her screams at the grisly sight brought them back. Jim quipped: "She must be going for the first Internet Emmy." They thought she was crying 'wolf' - but after Myers appeared behind her and cleanly beheaded her with a brutal swing of his butcher knife, and her head toppled down the stairs to their feet, they feared otherwise. Her mini-cam landed a few inches away from her head, pointed back at her own open but dead eyes. The party spectators were entertained by the broadcast, however: "How'd they do that?" and someone answered: "It's all digital effects." Deckard, however, immediately dialed 911 to report an emergency. Myers grabbed Jim's head between his bare hands and crushed the bones in his skull until his neck snapped. As Sara fled upstairs, Rudy valiantly fought off Myers in the kitchen, striking him with a wooden rolling pin, throwing fennel into his eyes, and grabbing a knife in each hand to slash at him. But the super-strong Myers pinned and suspended Rudy's body on the kitchen door with three butcher knives. The party audience cheered, but soon realized that the deaths weren't faked.
Sara began communicating with Deckard through one of the net-cams mounted in the corner of a room, pleading for help. She also began using her PDA, to receive survival advice from him, updates on Michael's location in the house, and safe directions for flight, as he followed her progress on the live broadcast. She climbed through a second-floor window out onto the roof, but when it was too high to jump, she re-entered the house through the attic window - where she was shocked to see cameraman Charley's corpse. When Myers was seen in his old bedroom, Sara received the message: "GO NOW!" (which appeared to be written in a larger text than the other messages) and she carefully crawled over Bill hanging on the trap-door ladder to escape from the attic. From the darkness, Freddie grabbed her, covered her mouth, and whispered in anguish: "My God. Everybody's dead," and suggested they leave the house immediately. Their way to the stairs was blocked when Myers stepped into view and began wrestling against both Freddie (using kung-fu kicks) and Sara (attempting to choke Myers with an electronic cable). When Freddie kicked Myers through a second-story window, the killer was suspended in mid-air and dangled there by the cord wrapped tightly around his neck. He twitched and then stopped moving.
As they moved to the front door, Freddie apologized to Sara for putting her life in danger, not knowing that Myers had been living under the house for many years. Sara's next message from Deckard read: "He's still alive." He had cut the cable choking him, and was still "in the house." Myers stabbed Freddie twice in the shoulder, as Sara fled through the kitchen (where she noticed Rudy's corpse), into the basement, and then into Myers' hideout (where she glimpsed Donna's corpse). She climbed up another ladder into the garage/tool shed (the location of the show's control room console, with monitors and a mixing panel), closed off the passageway with an overturned, gas-leaking lawn mower, and then slipped on a large puddle of blood on the floor. Looking up, she noticed that Nora was hanging from the ceiling in a cable noose and impaled with a butcher knife, dangling over her own pool of blood. Sara then burst out of her hiding place and attacked the ever-resilient, pursuing Myers with a chainsaw. She accidentally severed the electronic cables, and sparked an explosion and electrical fire, further fueled by old paint cans.
Freddie, who survived his stabbing, saved Sara from Myers' threatening butcher knife just as he was about to kill her with it, prefaced by a greeting: "Trick or treat, motherfucker,". He then picked up a shovel and smacked Myers with it, but the metal part broke off. and began smacking Myers with the broken shovel handle, but Myers grabbed it, overpowered Freddie and hurled him into a nearby shelf. Freddie, seeing that his tactic was not working, noticed a nearby electrical computer wire and shoved it into Myers’ groin, dangling him up in some electrical wiring. The power surge electrocuted him - further intensified by the pool of blood he was standing in. As the voltage coursed through his stiffened body, sizzling and crackling sounds were heard. Michael slumped, but was still held up by cables - his arms spread in a crucifix-like pose, as flames roared around him and the house went up in flames with him inside.
Approaching sirens were heard from police and fire engine vehicles. Near the burned-down, charred house, the survivors' injuries were treated by medical personnel. Sara received another message: "You're Alive!" On a news broadcast, Sara thanked Deckard for saving her life. Freddie asserted that he did not want any more cameras: "Dangertainment is off the air." He lectured the news crew that was clamoring around Sara for an interview: After Myers' body was placed in a body bag, Sara insisted on seeing the corpse's face. Freddie had a few words for Michael while Sara didn't say anything at the man who murdered her friends.
At the morgue, a nervous coroner approached "celebrity" Michael Myers's body bag to examine his burned face. She unzipped the bag, noting the melted mask on his burned face. As the coroner started to remove the mask, Myers's eyes suddenly popped open.
It is now January 2003.
