Sapphire Styx is a mutant whose true name and early history remain unknown. She has survived for centuries by consuming the life force of other people and preserving their spiritual energy within herself. She eventually settled in Madripoor and entered the service of the crime lord Roche alongside Razor-Fist and the Inquisitor.

Sapphire encountered Wolverine at the Princess Bar while posing as a helpless hostage during his conflict with Roche’s men. She later approached him on the street and attempted to lure him away before draining much of his strength through physical contact. Razor-Fist attacked the weakened Wolverine and delivered him to Roche. Sapphire later pursued O’Donnell on Roche’s orders but was intercepted by Tyger Tiger. Her attempt to feed on Tyger failed and the struggle left Sapphire badly scarred before she escaped with the Inquisitor.

Sapphire eventually joined the Femme Fatales under Viper and returned to criminal activity in Madripoor. The group ambushed Kitty Pryde and several of her allies during their search for Wolverine. Sapphire overpowered Psylocke and began consuming her spiritual energy because she believed such a powerful mutant could sustain her for years. Psylocke remained conscious within Sapphire’s internal psychic realm and fought against the captive souls held there.

Appearance: Sapphire Styx has fair peach skin and a tall curvy athletic build with broad shoulders a narrow waist full breasts rounded hips and muscular thighs. Her eyes are pale blue beneath sharply angled auburn brows. Her vivid copper orange hair is cut into a sleek asymmetrical bob with long pointed bangs sweeping across her forehead and shorter layers tapering along her jaw.

She wears a fitted lavender mini dress with narrow shoulder straps and a deeply curved neckline. The bodice closely follows her chest and narrows around her waist. Wide overlapping fabric bands cross diagonally across her torso and continue over her hips. Dark purple inset panels appear along both sides of the waist and beneath the crossed sections. The skirt ends high on her thighs with an uneven angular hem.

Glossy black gloves cover her hands and extend above her elbows. The gloves fit tightly along her forearms and taper into long pointed claw shapes at each fingertip. Tall black boots rise below her knees with polished surfaces and narrow raised heels. Thin violet straps cross around the front of each boot in a repeated diagonal pattern. Her legs remain uncovered between the dress and the boots.

Personality: Sapphire is predatory and cruel. She views other people as sources of nourishment and shows little concern for the suffering caused by her hunger. She often presents herself as vulnerable or seductive so that a target will lower their guard before she makes physical contact. Her confidence rests heavily on the belief that few opponents can resist her once she begins feeding.

Her association with Roche was based on mutual usefulness rather than loyalty. Roche employed her as an enforcer who could weaken exceptionally dangerous opponents before his other agents moved against them. Sapphire worked beside Razor-Fist and the Inquisitor but showed little attachment to either man. She abandoned situations once they ceased to interest her and placed her own survival above Roche’s organization.

Viper treated Sapphire as a powerful weapon within the Femme Fatales but had difficulty controlling her appetite. Sapphire developed a particular interest in mutant life force and ignored broader objectives when an especially powerful victim was within reach. Wolverine became one of the few people who survived her feeding and left a lasting psychic trace within her. Psylocke later confronted Sapphire from inside the spiritual prison created by her power.

Sapphire Styx absorbs life force through direct physical contact. She commonly channels this power through a kiss but any sustained touch can weaken a victim. Absorbed energy increases her strength and durability while accelerating her recovery from injury. It also restores her youth and has allowed her to remain alive for hundreds of years.

The spirits consumed by Sapphire can remain trapped within an internal psychic realm that resembles a vast graveyard. This allows her to draw upon their remaining energy but powerful minds may retain awareness and resist her from within. Sapphire has experience with firearms and armed combat though she normally relies on deception and physical contact. She carries no known permanent armor or specialized equipment.
