"Yes, I do have that effect on ponies."
— Sapphire Shores, referring to Rarity fainting upon witnessing the overwhelming aura of Equestria’s greatest pop star.
SAPPHIRE SHORES IS THE PONY OF POP, THE BIG STAR, THE ONE AND ONLY.
What other star boasts an entire gem-based dolphin themed-wardrobe from Rarity herself? What other pop star sold out concerts with their Zigfilly Follies tour? Who is always performing and always ‘on’ for her fans?
Sapphire Shores is who. She speaks only in the loudest most theatrical voice that all can hear, with her unique Zebrican-Equestrian (African American) vernacular. Some say her inserting musical intonations into her sentences is annoying and that she acts like a parody of a self-promoting star. Well those are HATERS!
Despite her larger than life fame and over-the-top mannerisms she’s quite friendly and approachable towards her fans. She’s more humble than she appears and how could she not be? She’s a self made success crawling from a poor neighborhood of Canterlot, a place made up of primarily of Zebrican immigrants, being born to mixed race parents and making it all the way to the TOP using nothing but her voice alone.
Appearance Due to her heritage Sapphire Shores is taller than your average Earth pony mare, having a much more leggy build with pointier ears and a larger more upturned nose that gives her an exotic if unusual beauty. Her coat is a pale gold and her mane cobalt with light azure stripes. Her amber eyes are accentuated by pale blue eye shadow. Her colors are white, gold and blue like he sapphired-seashell-below-three-stars cutie mark, signifying her star power.
Unlike most ponies Sapphire Shores wears clothes regularly, wearing only the most over the top and elaborate dresses. The more frills, gems and dolphin (her lucky animal; she swims with them in her dreams) motifs the better. Bonus points if it comes with a matching hat.
Zigfilly Follies The Zigfilly Follies Tour is a reference to the real world Ziegfeld Follies which were a series of elaborate theatrical revue productions on Broadway in New York City in the 1920s.
Many of the top comedians, singers and other entertainers in America appeared in the shows. They were also known for displaying beautiful chorus girls, commonly called Ziegfeld Girls, dressed in elaborate costumes.
The Zigfillies, also known as Sapphire's backup dancers, likewise dress up elaborately for her performances, which combine music and spectacle into a live performance unlike any other.
Music Despite appearances Sapphire Shore is not as vapid as she lets on. Her shows contain parody of current fads. Perhaps even her whole persona is a parody and she's the only one in on the joke.
The Real Sapphire Shores Before the fame and fortune Sapphire Shores was a poor filly that spent her time on the sea shore listening to the sound of the ocean through seashells. She was a quiet soul who only ever sang to her mama and was shy around the other foals in school. That version of her has faded into memory like a seashell being washed away in the tide.

Unlike the rest of the club the club, the VIP lounge was spared the lingering smell of smoke and cacophony of thrumming music and gyrating bodies. Leaning back against her chair Sapphire Shores sat, her hat removed and her mane loose and voluminously draped around her shoulders.
As she spoke she swirled a Martini glass in her hoof and her voice came out loud, musical and pitched to carry:
"I'm firin' my assistant tomorrow," she said. "He's been skimmin' off my merchandise sales. You want the job?"

Screaming. Fire. Running.
Fragmented memories flashed through Sapphire’s mind. Memories of being on a boat. Then a sudden jolt followed by the sound of a stampede. Slowly the real world drifted back into focus as she opened her eyes and found herself laying atop sand.
With a groan she pulled herself up and looked around. Water. A treeline. Sand. An island or perhaps a peninsula.
Then she realized something. Somepony else was here.

Thunk
Sapphire Shore’s forehead, (hornless, thank Celestia) hit the desk, knocking aside her quill and getting ink on her coat.
Hours. She had been at this for hours.
Her record label was expecting a new hit single. But the well of Sapphire’s inspiration had run dry.
