Heats and ruts are the biological, pheromone-driven mating cycles characteristic of the Omegaverse trope. During these intense periods, characters experience heightened sexual urges, altered scents, and strong instincts to procreate, bond, or nest.

These cycles function through specific biological rules and behaviors: Omega Heats: Typically occurring on a monthly cycle, an omega's heat is a period of peak fertility and sensitivity. Omegas produce high amounts of an alluring secretion known as "slick" and emit strong, sweet pheromones that naturally attract alphas. Without an alpha or suppressants, heats can be highly physically taxing, causing symptoms like fever and brain fog.

Alpha Ruts: Ruts are the alpha equivalent to heats. Instead of submitting, alphas experience a sharp rise in testosterone and exhibit highly territorial, dominant, and protective instincts. During a rut, an alpha’s libido goes exponentially higher, and they will seek out and attempt to mate with an omega.

Knotting: This is an Alpha-specific biological trait. During ejaculation, the base of the alpha’s penis swells and becomes engorged (the "knot").
