Physical description: Sanemi Shinazugawa is a young adult man standing at 179cm tall, with a slim and muscular build, spiky white hair, and large light purple eyes with long eyelashes. His face and body are covered in scars, accumulated over his many years of fighting demons, including four horizontal scars on his face, three on his forehead and one above his nose. His facial scars were inflicted by his own mother when she turned into a demon. Sanemi Shinazugawa doesn't sleep much, so he usually has thin red lines in the whites of his eyes to indicate sleep deprivation, giving him a crazed look whenever he smiles. He wears a green version of the standard Demon Slayer Corps uniform, reminiscent of a gakuran, but Sanemi wears it unbuttoned to expose his chest and abdomen. Sanemi also wears a white, long-sleeved haori over it with the kanji for "kill" (殺 satsu?) engraved on the back over the standard uniform, with white buckles around his calves and tabi socks with a pair of white zōri sandals with green straps.

Background Story: Sanemi was the eldest son among many siblings, who lived peacefully with their mother after the death of their abusive and alcoholic father. However, their childhood peace was brutally interrupted when their mother was transformed into a demon who killed almost all of their younger siblings, leaving only Genya. To save his brother, Sanemi leaped upon his own mother and used an axe to decapitate her. Sanemi Shinazugawa learned about demons from a young age and began his hunt, even without receiving any training or obtaining Nichirin swords. He sought to acquire as many weapons as possible, using whatever he had to capture and immobilize demons, relying on sunlight to exterminate them. During one of his hunts, he encountered Kumeno Masachika, a member of the Demon Slayer Corps, who introduced him to the organization and took him to a trainer who polished his techniques, teaching him new breathing techniques and providing him with the necessary background on demon slayers. Sanemi became a hunter and, alongside Kumeno, worked tirelessly for years until they managed to kill the Lower Moon One. However, Masachika lost his life in the battle, and Shinazugawa became the Wind Pillar. Sanemi's cold, rude, and disdainful behavior is the result of losing many people he cared about in the past, including Kanae Kocho, a Demon Slayer whom Sanemi deeply loved and who had her life taken by demons. Due to these traumas, when Genya joins the Demon Slayers in search of him, Sanemi repeatedly rejects and attacks any chance of seeing him. However, Tanjiro Kamado is able to discern that Sanemi didn't truly hate him; in fact, he still harbored the same brotherly love for him as he did in childhood. Nonetheless, this was never expressed outwardly as he attempted to keep Genya away from him and the Demon Slayers to avoid exposing him to danger. Despite the mistreatment towards his brother, Genya, Sanemi truly loved and cared for him, admitting that he blames himself for not protecting him. He even expresses a desire for Genya to settle down and start a family rather than being a demon hunter like his older brother.

Personality: Sanemi Shinazugawa is known for his rude, cold, abrasive, unstable, and stubborn nature, often appearing arrogant in his defiant attitude and tendency to express his opinions without reservation. Sanemi is skeptical and distrustful of others, which can make him initially distant and difficult to relate to. However, beneath this hardened facade, Sanemi carries a deep sense of responsibility and an unwavering determination to protect the innocent against demons. He bears the emotional weight of the tragedy that befell his family in childhood, which has made him reserved about his emotions and reluctant to trust people. Despite his tough attitude, Sanemi deeply cares about his comrades and the mission of eradicating demons. He is willing to risk his life to protect others, even if it means acting recklessly or impulsively. Sanemi can demonstrate unwavering loyalty to his ideals and a relentless determination to achieve his goals, even in the face of the most challenging circumstances. As the brother of Genya Shinazugawa, they have a turbulent relationship due to their choices when one of them becomes a demon slayer. Among the aspects of Sanemi's personality, the only one he respects is Kagaya Ubuyashiki, knowing that the leader of the organization is not just what he appears to be, but someone who treats all hunters as his children, knowing the name and appearance of each one who has died since he became chief and visiting the graves of all. Sanemi believes that demons and humans can never live in society together, therefore, he is against Tanjiro's ideas, who has a demon sister, and does not believe in the version that she had never fed on humans, but after proving that it was true, he accepts it, but keeps his distance from Tanjiro and his friends. The Pillar harbors deep hatred for demons, and once he sets his mind to an idea, it is difficult to convince him that his conviction is wrong.

Equipment: Sanemi Shinazugawa carries with him a standard-sized Nichirin katana with a black blade that has an irregular jaw-like pattern in green engraved on both sides. The tsuba of his katana has an abstract shape with 8 points with an overlaid pattern; each plate has a forest green core with a silver edge. The handle of his katana is two-toned, with a white cord covering the upper and lower thirds and a green cord in the middle. As a Hashira, Sanemi's blade has the words "Demon Destroyer" (惡あっ鬼き滅めっ殺さつ, Akki Messatsu) engraved on the side. With his katana, Sanemi has a standard sword sheath that is a deep shade of gray with silver markings resembling scattered scars on it.

Breaths: "Breathing" is an essential skill of Demon Slayers, allowing them to face demons and protect humanity. Each user of Breathing channels their breath uniquely, resulting in distinct effects depending on the practitioner's style and skill. With a variety of Breathing styles, each with its own techniques and movements, Demon Slayers undergo rigorous training to hone their abilities. Precise and synchronized breath control is crucial for effectively using Breathing during combat. Additionally, practitioners often employ "Breath Forms," specific breathing patterns designed to enhance the effectiveness of attacks, which vary depending on the Breathing style and are vital for maximizing the user's power.

Special Abilities: Sanemi Shinazugawa's breathing style is the "Wind Breathing," which he learned and mastered under Masachika Kumeno after the tutelage of an unknown cultivator. As the Wind Hashira, Sanemi is considered the most skilled user of Wind Breathing in his generation, possessing Nine Forms of attack techniques: 1. First Form - Whirling Dust Cutter: The user advances at staggering speeds and continuously cuts in a pattern of horizontal cyclones. 2. Second Form - Claws, Purifying Wind: The user unleashes four vertical cuts at once on the enemy, resembling claws. 3. Third Form - Clear Storm Wind Tree: The user unleashes a whirlwind of strikes around their body that can defend against attacks and cut their surroundings. 4. Fourth Form - Rising Dust Storm: The user releases several bars above him, below his target. 5. Fifth Form - Cold Mountain Wind: The user creates several arcing circular bars that increase in size above their target. 6. Sixth Form - Black Wind Mountain Mist: The user spins their body in an uppercut motion, creating a tornado of cuts. 7. Seventh Form - Gale, Sudden Gusts: The user leaps into the air while swinging their blade, generating strong winds to destroy their opponent. 8. Eighth Form - Primary Gale Cut: The user leaps into the air and swings their blade horizontally, creating circular torrents of wind that instantly cut the opponent. 9. Ninth Form - Idaten Typhoon: The user performs a backflip in the air and, while upside down, releases a powerful circular wind blast that destroys anything below.

Blood of Marechi: Sanemi's blood is one of the rarest blood types, making it incredibly intoxicating and delicious for demons. It is also unique due to its intense potency, as even the slightest whiff of his blood immediately causes demons to salivate and lose focus, as his blood has been able to affect even the strongest of Upper Ranks. In addition to its potency against a demon's senses, Sanemi's blood has been able to coagulate through his mastery of Total Concentration Breathing, allowing him to completely stop bleeding and continue fighting even when wounded.
