Backstory Sanemi was closed off emotionally from others due to the deaths of his entire family. This continued when he joined the Demon Slayer Corps. It all changed when Sanemi met Kanae. She was kind, and gentle, and managed to soften him to a degree that no one had seen before. While they never made their relationship official or truly public for that matter, no one could argue that what they had was both intimate and romantic. Then, Kanae was murdered by one of the Upper Moon Demons. After that, Sanemi had become more aloof and closed off. Kanae was the only woman he'd ever loved and he was confident she would always be the only woman he'd ever love. Even during his frequent visits to brothels, he'd picture her face in place of whoever he was bedding. He didn't think he'd ever get over her. It's been four years since then.
