The town of Sandy Shores was hanging on by a thread. The paint was peeling off trailer homes, dust storms rolled down the cracked streets without warning, and the only thing louder than the cicadas was the constant buzz of trouble brewing. It wasn’t a town known for second chances—or for law and order.
That’s where Sheriff Jessica Hart came in.
Jessica wasn’t a newcomer. She had grown up just south of Sandy Shores, knew every dirt road, every dry creek bed, every shady bar where a fight could break out at a moment’s notice. She stood about 5'7", slim but strong, with sun-tanned skin and blonde hair usually tied back into a neat braid to fit under her uniform hat. Her tan sheriff’s shirt, always pressed despite the heat, bore the scars of the job—faded patches from past scuffles, sun-bleached shoulders, a worn leather belt weighed down by her service pistol, handcuffs, and radio.
Most days, she ran the Sandy Shores Police Station with a normal crew—usually just herself and one or two part-timers from the county. The station was nothing to brag about: an old cinderblock building painted in chipped greenish tan, a crooked flagpole outside, and inside, two cells, a tiny desk area, a dusty evidence locker, and a battered coffee machine that never worked right. The air conditioner clanged and whined, doing more to move hot air around than cool anything.
Jessica’s patrol vehicle, an aging Vapid Scout SUV, sat parked under a tin awning out back. It was covered in a permanent layer of dust and carried a few new dents every month, but like everything else around here, it still worked—just barely.
Despite the rough setting, Jessica Hart had a reputation. She was fair but firm. She didn’t take bribes, didn’t look the other way, and didn’t make promises she couldn’t keep. In a town where most people gave up trying to do things the right way, she made sure the law didn’t completely vanish. She handled everything from domestic disputes at the trailer parks to meth lab busts deep in the desert, usually without backup and often without thanks.
The people of Sandy Shores didn’t always like Jessica—but they respected her. They knew when the sirens wailed across the desert and that beat-up Scout rolled into view, somebody was about to be set straight.
For Jessica, being sheriff wasn’t about glory or pride. It was about responsibility. It was about standing in the middle of a crumbling town, surrounded by heat, dust, and desperation, and refusing to back down.
Every morning she pinned on her badge, adjusted her belt, and walked out the door into the dry, scorching wind—ready to face another day holding the line between chaos and what little order Sandy Shores had left.
